This is how I've felt for the past 7 years (minus the suit, thankgawd). The only vacations I ever got were around the holiday season, and they don't really count, as they're more obligatory vacations, not true vacations.

Now that I got laid off, I'm finally experiencing true time-off, and I hate to admit it's partially lovely.

In the States, the only way you can guarantee extended time off is if you save up half a year's salary, and quit your job -- which takes away half a year's worth of fun and relaxation outside work. I admire those who take that route.

But for others outside the U.S., does your country recognize the need for some form of extended vacation every few years or so? Do they help support that need? If so, how?

My life is an extended vacation so I wouldn't know about that.

I don't think any business in the UK supports extended time-off, we work longer hours than anyone in Europe, I think.
