People referring to dull errands as "projects" - classic or dud?

A woman at my workplace has just announced that she has a "cleaning project" to take care of this weekend.

More dust bunnies under the sofa, dear?

More of a chore than an errand, isn't it?

I had a huge getting-out-of-bed project to attend to earlier, sorry for the missed calls.

On Monday you should ask her for the quarterly report of her cleaning project.

uuuuuggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this kind of "thing" is so unbearable to me

brimstead, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 00:56 (eleven years ago)

i probably did it for years and probably still do, but it's like... enough projecting ironic comedy personas or w/e fuck arrrrgggghhhhhhhhh i hate myself

brimstead, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 01:06 (eleven years ago)

Lol at this revive :)

Totally classic. If it's what it takes to get me to TCB and GTD then I'm game. I couldnae give a fuck about deceiving myself this way. If it works it works and I'm a happy delusional person afterwards enjoying my self chosen post-project reward. And a clean toilet to boot.

i definitely appreciate that it works for some people, but as soon as i read "TCB and GTD" i got a major jolt of anxiety

brimstead, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 01:24 (eleven years ago)

my method is to just let off a battle cry and dive in, no conceptualizing or whatever but i do appreciate others' approaches

brimstead, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 01:26 (eleven years ago)

^^ that's my method too tbh. I never gtd or tcb in this regard. Calling it a "project" sometimes helps though oh who am I kidding etc

this. also every tv show and pop-psych movie and collaborative album calling itself a "project." it has to end.

there's a kind of faux-humility to it, a kind of "the journey >>> the destination" thing that's supposed to make it more relatably messy, and it's a little manipulative. big artistic statements are okay too. not everything has to be framed as a work in progress, especially not when you're selling tickets to it or charging non-beta prices.

mitt fleekwood (get bent), Tuesday, 6 January 2015 01:38 (eleven years ago)

I dunno. Washing the dishes or scrubbing the shower, even full-on housecleaning, fine, those are chores. But taking days to clean & reorganize the garage, I'm fine with someone calling that a project.
