I feel like we should get something going. Even if I didn't know her, she is one of ours and what happened is tragic.

I'll be back in NYC soon -- anyone want to meet up to raise a glass in her honor?

the urban heat island effect (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

I think this is a lovely idea. I'll certainly be toasting Liz tonight.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

anyway, this is the thread to discuss plans.

the urban heat island effect (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

I'm very much on for anything in London, I think. I quietly/privately raised a glass tonight, but didn't feel at all able to stay in the pub and do it communally. I think tomorrow I'd like to do so.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

do we want to do it everywhere simultanaeously, or at least on the same day? Andrew Farrell could do a Phil Collins and attend two FAPs in two different countries.

I'm game for Dublin fappage.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

I have no FAPs to attend to, but tomorrow I shall raise toast and think of her, by myself if nothing else.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

I'd be into whatever people wanted to do in Seattle.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

Somebody tell me about Liz.

pepektheassassin (pepektheassassin), Friday, 15 July 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

do we want to do it everywhere simultanaeously, or at least on the same day?

that sounds a little hard to organize. but i'm looking at next friday (the 22nd) as a good date for the nyc one.

the urban heat island effect (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 16 July 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

is there a bar in manhattan that's subdued on a friday night?

the urban heat island effect (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 16 July 2005 01:51 (twenty years ago)

new yorkers: any thoughts on little branch? the cocktails are somewhat pricey but supposedly good and strong.

the urban heat island effect (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 16 July 2005 05:52 (twenty years ago)

Ned, myself, Omar + anyone else who comes along will certainly be raising a glass to Liz in Amsterdam this afternoon.

stevo (stevo), Saturday, 16 July 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

i am raising a glass now.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 16 July 2005 06:10 (twenty years ago)

I never knew Liz. Still, this tragedy has been haunting me all week. I, too, am raising a glass now.

nory (nory), Saturday, 16 July 2005 06:17 (twenty years ago)

Lots of us Chicagoans will be meeting up tomorrow for the Intonation Fest. I promise I will convene everyone to raise a cup for Liz.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 16 July 2005 06:39 (twenty years ago)

Would anyone else like to attend a Northern England FAP in order to raise a glass to Liz?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Saturday, 16 July 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

Johnney B, Kate and I (and possibly others) will be raising a glass to Liz here in Oxford.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 16 July 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

This is a lovely idea in a sea of very very dark and sad ones. It would probablt be best if we left some time for the london people especially to take some time to let it all sink in and spend time with those closest to her and help them throught what must be the toughest imaginable trial. Perhaps the weekend in two weeks time we might be able to join a fully united tribute?

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 16 July 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

I'm sort of waiting to hear about funeral arrangements, and then I think it'd be good for those closest to her to say what they would like, if anything. I've heard from some people beyond London that they hope to make it here for a funeral, so obviously there might be a desire to get together around that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 16 July 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

i wouldn't mind pushing the new york date back another week either. the 29th, then. at little branch, if no one has any objections. let's call it for 8.

aqua teen hongro force (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 16 July 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

probably a good idea, not least just to bloody see each other again, I know I haven't seen some Dublin ILXors in months, since Aaron W was here, 6 months that is.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 16 July 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

I was talking to accentmonkey today, she agreed we should meet sometime soon. I'm not sure how the idea of a London Liz FAP would work, every FAP for the next six months is going to be a Liz FAP.

Simultaneous FAPs are a bad idea, we'll only end up adding grief of the organizational kind to actual grief. Does anyone in Dublin want to go out in the next week (when me and accentmonkey were considering, I don't think we're particularly tied to it)?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 17 July 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

HI DERE. I can go out any night other than Monday, Wednesday or Thursday next week.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 17 July 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

I rarely visit here, but I moved from London to Melbourne a little over a year ago. If there's anybody here who'd be interested in meeting to raise a glass with me in Liz's memory, let me know.

Paul Field (foxeee), Sunday, 17 July 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

I know those of us up here who knew her have been running through memories and thoughts and discussions and hopes and fears as we've nearly all had reason to be together anyway when she was missing. I've been raising a metaphorical glass to her since last Friday when it became clear that all was not right (and many a real one on Friday when I found out).

But perhaps it would be nice for us all to get together anyway, everyone in Glasgow and surrounding - I know I blew a few of you out yesterday.

Can we also put organisational details for this on the Try Glasgow More thread? I figure on Monday, when people get back to work, trying to wade out details of your own area's FAP plans on a world-wide thread might be a bit of a problem.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 17 July 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

i know... i figured this thread would lead to more location-specific spinoff threads.

jody heatherton (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 17 July 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

Paul, if you're looking for people in your area, the Mongfuxor chronicles thread is where it's at -- I think there are quite a few people in Melbourne, too

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Sunday, 17 July 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Andrew, Vicar, Lara, Ronan, Friday after work suits me best next week, but I can make it any day.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Sunday, 17 July 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

I won't be able to make Friday at all, I'm afraid.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 July 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

Some while back Anna raised the possibility of arranging a "World FAP."

I think it would be a fitting memorial to Liz if we carried this through.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 18 July 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

I am currently sick (nothing too serious, I guess), I'm not sure how long it will take me to recover, I'd imagine I might be out of action for a week or so tho. I have to get an x-ray and stuff today at some stage, and hopefully won't have to get surgery in which case I guess a week off is best, to be safe.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 July 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear, what's up with you Ronan?

I hate the idea of having a pint of course, but I suppose I could, for the occasion. I think Londoners will be happy to work round other cities, us having amazing DROP EVERYTHING AND FIND BEER abilities.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 18 July 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

I always knew the Spontaneous Pneumothorax would get me in the end

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 July 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

When is the food science day?

Tom (Groke), Monday, 18 July 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, Ronan, get well soon!

The problem with WORLD FAP! (Could we ever manage it?) is that if ever we get past the insuperable problem of what country, we'll run straight into the second schism.

"It'll be brilliant, we can go out into the country and camp."
"Er, no. We will stay in the city, with the fruits of 10,000 years of civilization."
"No, it'll be great! Trees and rivers!"
"I have a gun."

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 July 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

A bit late to wish Jesus to get well, Andrew.

Ouch Ronan! Take care of yourself dude.

Obviously being in London I'm spoiled for FAPs, but I'm very keen to help organise something if I'm needed.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 18 July 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

as you may have seen, the funeral is early afternoon on friday if this helps people plan.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 21 July 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

five months pass...

.. Remembering Liz's family and friends this Christmas....

D.ave (dave225.3), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)
