This must win the award for most misleading/confusing thread title ever...*baffled look*.

Dairy Queen ad with a pair of Indian fellows and a bee. It's cutting it close, yeah

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 16 July 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 16 July 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

"Hey! Hurry it up! I'm sick of shaking my booty for these fat jerks!"

Scream! Scrovula, Scream! (noodle vague), Saturday, 16 July 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

They closed the only Dairy Queen here this week, so it's really unnerving to see those commercials as I wouldn't mind a Blizzard.

latebloomer: lazy r people (latebloomer), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

My mum knew someone who once got a fly stuck in his ear and it was buzzing about inside his head and they were trying to drown it with water but he was going mad from the noise.

Horrible!

dog latin (dog latin), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

my friends brother had a moth go up his ear once. hearing about this only added to my irrational fear of moths and butterflies.

Dairy Queen is pretty much trying to guarantee that not only will I never ever knowingly purchase one of their products again, but I will also pucnh anyone who works for them in the neck, putting them out of the tragic, miserable existence that forces them to work for blatantly racist asshats.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

(BTW I haven't seen this commercial but I'm never going to forgive them for the Moolatte.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Why, the similarity to the word "mulatto"? I could not believe my ears the first time I heard that commercial.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

holy shit!! they seriously named a drink Moolatte!!! are you fucking kidding me??

dave k, Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Have we not discussed the MooLatte?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

I totally love that Dan not only knows exactly where on the body he's going to punch the next DQ worker he meets

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

...? TEH SUSPENSE, IT KILLS LIKE CANDY

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Huh, I missed that other thread entirely.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 16 July 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

according to my website logs for May 2005:

Top 20 of 80 Total Search Strings
# Hits Search String
1 182 31.06% sufjan stevens
2 90 15.36% stupidity
3 65 11.09% mastodon

8 7 1.19% fat bees
9 7 1.19% photo marvin's marvelous mechanical museum songs

Fat bees led (at least) 7 people to my site. and they probably didn't click a google ad, the bastards.

What's the world's most dangerous bee?
Hepitatus B

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Sunday, 17 July 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

i love this ad and don't see how it is, or perceived as racist. and i am south-asian. is it just the scientist aspect?

La Monte (La Monte), Sunday, 17 July 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

well as gear said it's borderline. i think it definitely plays on some stereotypes. in itself no it's not a big deal but it's part of a larger pattern of representation. apu, etc. and yeah, it's funny ad! the guy's teeth in the magnifiying glass are ace.

demonlolver (gcannon), Sunday, 17 July 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

i should mention that over here in america, the stereotype is more with Cletus' several thousand children. Lower-class poor white folks having too many kinds.

with apu, it's a funny joke coz he took fertility drugs, too.

kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 18 July 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

I really think it'd be fun to go into as many Dairy Queens as possible and order a "Mulatto," and see if anyone bats an eye.
