Anyone else notice that Roy Carroll is the cheapest keeper in the game? Ha ha.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 02:46 (twenty-four years ago)

Onion's XI is in. I did autopick just to get started and the damn computer gave me three Newcastleers and Mark Viduka.

do you have to re-register?

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:16 (twenty-four years ago)

Think so...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:26 (twenty-four years ago)

You can use your username, but you might have to get a new password - now needs at least two non-letter characters.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:26 (twenty-four years ago)

yeah I had to monkey around with the passwords, only after I raised a new username though, weird

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:30 (twenty-four years ago)

Also, how ugly are football kits these days? The Wigan one's a horror.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:32 (twenty-four years ago)

The Nevada Limes are registered! I also used autopick, team details to come.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:35 (twenty-four years ago)

yo carsmile, get one knowledge of how to spell Invitational ;)

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:45 (twenty-four years ago)

four years pass...
And as the closed season gets shorter and shorter, so the gap between fantasy leagues must get shorter and shorter:

http://fantasy.premierleague.com

your ILX league is 19574-4204

hopefully "He Megged Ronaldo FC" will be able to challenge for that coveted european slot this year, we've got a lot of young lads coming through, and still hope to pick up another couple of players before the start of the season, brian.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 July 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm in. Well I will be when I think of a team name (SupercalifragilisticBorussiaMoenchengladbach being too long).

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 18 July 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Wow!

I'm definitely in on this!

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Monday, 18 July 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Deportivo L'Acadie once again shall fail to challenge but will cause endless hours to fly by at work.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 18 July 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

AdrianB (AdrianB), Monday, 18 July 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

adrian have you been thinking about this all summer ;)

(haha, by revealing your team we shall all now copy you :))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 July 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Natch.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Monday, 18 July 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

Fake's Seven are in.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 18 July 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Radzinski (Fulham)

Kiely (Charlton)
Thome (Wigan)

It's a mish mash of players I wanted followed by players from Wigan who let me afford it. Obviously it needs work.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 18 July 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

Torpedo Stow
Cech (Chels)
Pollitt (Wig) (former Spireite - sentimental choice)

Upson (Brum)
Kroldrup (Bluenoses)
McEvely (Blackburn)
Rosenior (Fulham)
Fortune (Charlton)

Riise (European Champions Liverpool)
Alonso (European Champions Liverpool)
Lampard (Chels)
Milner (Newcastle)
Davis (Villa)

Cisse (European Champions Liverpool)
Henry (Arse)
Horsefield (West Brom)

2 of these will most likely change before Kick off

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 18 July 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I won't be playing - last couple of long-term ones I've played, I've enjoyed picking the team then not bothered with transfers and subs and injuries and captains and all that, so I end up not playing properly and not enjoying it and drifting in the league with nothing interesting to play for. (A bit like Tottenham, really.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 July 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

b-b-but you could have an entire forward line of ex Bristol Rovers men! Affordably!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 18 July 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

FWIW here are Fake's Seven:

Cech, Jaaskelainen, Carragher, Todd, Konchesky, Repka, Taylor, Garcia, Cahill, Lampard, Faye, Downing, Bellamy, Fowler, Morrison.

No Arsenal and no Man Utd. I might change this now I realise they've changed the rules a bit - you have to play at least three defenders, and the way you score points for assists and clean sheets has changed. Also, I forgot West Brom had stayed up and I thought they'd left them in it by accident so I ignored all WBA players.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 18 July 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

ha, good point, William. That would be one of the cheapest forward lines one could buy.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 July 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

OK, Real Sociopath are in. And I just typed them all out rhen lost my wireless connection. I've remained fiercely loyal to the players that dragged me up from mid-table obscurity to a near-Champions League equivalent type placing. Except for the Evertonians. They've all gone.

Roy Carroll is mad cheap, isn't he?

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 18 July 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

To be true to myself, I should really have gone for

Robinson
Ferdinand Matteo Mills
Speed Kewell Bowyer Pennant
Smith Hasselbaink R.Keane

Subs: Martyn, Caldwell, Lennon, AN Other

£94m - shame we didn't get that much IRL!

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Monday, 18 July 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm hoping to improve on last season's position.

Plinny's Dream

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

hurrah!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

Doing this has given me the first glimpse of the new kits! I am strangely enamoured with Arsenal's already.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Really? It made me want to vomit.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

...but that might be my resolution.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 July 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Oh. Yeah actually it made me want to vomit too.

Summat went a wee bit haywire with the ILX date system thing last night for a couple of hours. All sorted now tho.

(xpost)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

so they've increased the "forwards scoring a goal" from 3 to 4 points and i think they've increased the assists (and are including winning a penalty this year (although not if the same player goes on to take the pen (the "andy johnson" rule, i think)) to 3 points.

henry is going to be unstoppable, surely...

the having to have 3 defenders (even after subs) rule sucks a bit though...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

I've sold Richardson already, heh

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

I'm in again! Will sort out my team later.

Davel (Davel), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

forwards scoring a goal was already 4 points!

and the assists were already 3!

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

oh silly me, i thought it was only 3...

henry still unstoppable though ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

Suprised few people have picked Crespo - with the service of Robben and SWP, he could be awesome.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I forgot about bonus points.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I kind of got scared to look after my first slump. I wouldn't advise this strategy.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

I won the Scottish one! I care not about your silly Premiership!

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Fucking hell. How many people were in that?

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

About 1500. No prizes, and I don't think anyone was taking it seriously. But yeah, all kudos gratefully received!

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

I think they could charge £1 a month entry next season and for however many people are in the same league as you there's a monthly cash prize for the top manager that month - so if you're in a league with 29 others and you top the table in August you get £30 etc.

Would be much more incentive and make things saucier. I'd organise it myself for the ILX league but I guess that just wouldn't be cricket.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

I shall make Onimo and Aldo and Scotstvo buy me congratulatory pints in their capacity as losers (I don't actually *know* anyone else I beat).

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

I just looked at that Scottish one for the first time this year and realised I've had Freddie Dindeleux in my team all season despite him playing in fucking Belgium!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

and that wee fucker Sproule, 37 points before I signed him, 3 after.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

I like Stevem's idea, except I think it should have been £1 and fuck teh monthly prizes, they should just give me £1405 now.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

stevem that's pretty much what a few of us do at work (see UCLH vs WCI fite! league) one pound in the kitty per month for the manager of the month - it really does help to make you bother to check your team's progress!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 7 May 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

13th?! How the fuck did that happen?

I will play properly next year, I promise. Should we play a different Fantasy League next year? I don't think this official Premier League one is much cop really.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 7 May 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

I want a world cup one in the meantime

Porkpie (porkpie), Sunday, 7 May 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

xpost i thought this premier league one is pretty good

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 7 May 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

Should we play a different Fantasy League next year? I don't think this official Premier League one is much cop really.

I quite like it. I was in the BBC one before, and I was better at it (in 01/02 I was in the top ten with about three weeks to go before slumping to 40th or something, despite the fact I was in Italy at the time and only seeing English football on videos of MOTD I got sent out to me once a month), but the scoring system was a bit basic compared to the Premier League one. Also, on the BBC one you could completely change your team each month and then you had six transfers during each month to be made at any time, but there were no 'gameweeks', so you could play Henry on the Saturday and bring in Van Nistelrooy on the Sunday. That's the only thing that was better than the Premier League one - at least if your team was rubbish you knew you could completely change it, whereas with the Premier League one it's a bit like steering a supertanker, it can take months to sort it out.

I want a world cup one in the meantime

Too right.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Sunday, 7 May 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

I do like this official one but they should have better and more regular prizes considering it's official and Budweiser and Barclaycard plough £££s into it.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 7 May 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

The Yahoo one is supposed to be quite good. Maybe we should try it (or more than one) for the World Cup.

caek (caek), Sunday, 7 May 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

Ailsa where's me pint
My team: rub; my excuse: "I

Haikunym (Haikunym), Sunday, 7 May 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

the yahoo/fifa/mcdonalds fantasy world cup league????

http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060410/1/6iks.html
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060410/1/6iml.html

seems v similar to the prem one. i'm sure we can find lots though :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 8 May 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

also, curses i was hoping G didn't have henry, as he's pretty much guaranteed the 3 bonus points, but he does...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 8 May 2006 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

i like the curent premierleague one a lot, perhaps some of the stragglers are thinking they cant quite cut it.

they are also doing a world cup one anyway. it starts on monday

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 8 May 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

I do like this official one but they should have better and more regular prizes considering it's official and Budweiser and Barclaycard plough £££s into it.

steve there probably are some prizes but seeing that the top team for the ILX league is something like 5500th overall it's probably hard for them to give away prizes to us!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 May 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

i'm sure they could find a way.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 8 May 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

also channel 4, of all people:

http://channel4.fantasyleague.com/Article.aspx?id=120

this appears to be based on the bbc one we did for the last world cup...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 8 May 2006 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

I'm ILX's defending world champion, so I am looking forward to the World Cup one. I can't be doing with this fiddling around every week for nine months, but there is less of that in a short tournament - I think last time we only got to change our teams once, right after the group stages.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 8 May 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

i vote for the fantasy.premierleague.com one, it has served us well

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 8 May 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

I vote for maximum fiddling.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Monday, 8 May 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

perv

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 8 May 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

i hope to take my euro2004 and premierleague2006 form into the world cup!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 May 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

if Ronaldo gets a bonus will i pip Chris B?
-- Konal Doddz

Yep, by one point.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Monday, 8 May 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

Thank God I got Henry in for the last week - cost me 8 points but it was worth it. An honourable UEFA cup spot in my first season!

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Monday, 8 May 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

hurrah!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 8 May 2006 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

you get 6 points back just from bonus alone (if you captained him)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 May 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

The Premier League one for the World Cup appears to have been delayed. It was supposed to launch today (15th) but some time around lunch the blurb changed to "Fantasy Premier League International, where you manage a team selected from Premier League players performing at the FIFA World Cup 2006, will launch this week."

WHAT AREN'T WE BEING TOLD?

Yahoo/FIFA begins on the 18th.

caek (caek), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

The Metro one is up and running.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man! Decisions! Options are:

Yahoo/FIFA (May 18)
The Metro (Open)
Channel 4 (May 20)
Premier League (this week)

As far as I can tell, Metro is the only one of these offering (irrelevant) cash prizes. We know and love the Premier League one (although they had technical difficulties this year, and I find this new delay profoundly troubling). There are a couple of votes for it upthread though. Thoughts?

caek (caek), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

"McDonald's®/FIFA World Cup™ Official Fantasy Game"
http://www.soccernet.com/images/global/brazil/Rivaldo_BB.jpg
He's loving it.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

The Premier League one seems to involve just Premiership players playing at the World Cup, rather than being Fantasy World Cup. If that makes a difference.

The Metro one seems to operate roughly the same scoring and rules as the one we've been playing all season.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

A friend of mine suggested this one: http://football.ntlworld.com/. Personally I like the look of the yahoo one. The premier league one sounds rubbish.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Monday, 15 May 2006 18:29 (nineteen years ago)

The Yahoo one suggests your team name should be "if possible, something quirky" which gave me teh fear ("quirky" is on a par with "wacky" and "zany" in terms of words which make me want to inflict pain on people using them), and then suggests using France Ferdinand. Which made me laugh, sadly.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

strangely, Amazon seem to be doing one too

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

ugh, that ntlworld one looks awful

metro looks good

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

The Premier League one is open.

IT'S DECISION TIME.

My vote is for the Metro one. The rules are exactly the same as the Premier League one (seems to be a copy and paste job), but with cash prizes. What say you?

caek (caek), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

i wonder if something like a fantasy knockout cup exists? same rules with scoring, but you have say 32 teams just in a knockout tournament (with several 'byes' in the first round in which you have to beat the average score), and after each round the team with more points win (with an appropriate number of substitutions per round - or you have to pick your squad of 22 at the start!)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

It's Baaaack

With a strike force consiting of Collins John, Francis Jeffers and some twerp from Reading I'm staking my claim for last place.
