Sex, power, ambition, deviancy, money, compensation...

I'm not entirely sure what I want to say in this thread, something about famous people being sex addicts and company directors being into wife swapping. Does serious ambition for money and power go hand-in-hand with serious ambition for sex? What does it say about someone if they want to fuck a LOT of people or engage in swinging? What does it say about them if they are also a filmstar, musician or successful business (wo)man? Is it about wanting attention, affection, is about proving yourself, does one urge drive the other urge?

There's some stuff going on with someone I know in real life which has got me thinking.

These would sound like pretty much equivalent traits if you believe in the alpha thing.

There are plenty of unsucesfull layabouts
with incredible sexdrives. Money, power
and fame make it a bit more feasable for
those who want to fuck the nanny.

A friend's father has just walked out on his wife and three children (22, 18, 12). He runs a business which is incredibly stressful - they do IT stuff and have been doing a lot of big contract work (or trying to) in Iraq as the business is owned by three Kurdistani brothers who have contacts in the new administration. Since he first went to Iraq my friend's father has been acting erratically, which I guess is understandable - he told his wife he wanted her to get a facelift and for them to start going "clubbing" (they're in their early 50s). Two years ago, his older brother, also a businessman, had a stress-related heartattack. But anyway, he's walked out on his wife and kids, told them he's cutting off financial support and never wants to see them again, is using some damage to his car (a battered company Lexus) as an excuse, and is generally a total dick. Only last night I found out that a big part of the reason why he's acting like a prick is because he wants to go wife-swapping and his wife wont. He joined a club. He's very nearly convinced her a couple of times, even taken her away, but they've not made it there and instead spent a night in a hotel closer to home. This guy, who could be very successful, more so than he is (the business is in trouble because the eldest of the Kurdistani brothers is totally irresponsible and the Iraq work isn't reaching the kind of level they'd banked on), is destroying his family because he wants to go swinging. wtf is that about?!

Like all great things sex is highly addictive in a way that the joy of family life just isn't? And the ticking clock of mortality? And that point where yr brain just snaps and you want to dive into the abyss cos there's nothing really that can stop you? I dunno, I'm not sure why more people don't succumb to nihilism.
