NO FIVE THOUSAND FINGERS OF DR T?

NO CARE BEARS 2??????

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

nice, list, so many good memories! I would find a way to shoehorn the secret of roan inish in there, that one was lovely.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Romeo + Juliet? Are we trying to annoy children?

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

NO ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

Erase most of the french films and put in Thief of Bagdad and Watership Down instead.
Seems like some of these are films about children, not for children.

Boring Satanic Space Jazz (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

It is a great list, although they need a few of the classic 80s films like the Goonies etc.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Tati would be boring for most children. most adults, as well.

Boring Satanic Space Jazz (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

I dunno about Watership Down, tho. that flick has a great history of freaking out elementary school reading classes for at least 20 years...

kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Kes and The Night of the Hunter?!? Are we trying to traumatize these kids? Madness for any under age ten, or even 12 p'raps.

I took an 8-year-old Jedi to the 1940 Thief of Bagdad recently and he was entranced.

Show me Love? This list is for kids 14 and under?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

This list was written and compiled by very adult adults.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

It's A Wonderful Life. It's a wonderful movie, unfortunately not one that often leaves kids enchanted and inspired. Replace with either Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal, for fuck's sake.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

The Triplets of Belleville REALLY needs to be on here somewhere, too. It's almost as much fun watching children watch it as it is to watch proper.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

Labyrinth seconded. And Bedknobs & Broomsticks (though I suspect I might be letting sentimentality take over with that one.)

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

If they're gonna recommend Night of the Hunter ya mightaswell put Los Olvidados too!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

I just realized my son has never seen Thief of Baghdad! This must be remedied immediately.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

THE WIZARDS

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Not exactly a children's film, but then, neither were many others on this list.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

Tati would be boring for most children. most adults, as well.

I LOVED TATI AS A KID though, yeah, I had far more patience for that kind of thing than any kid or adult I knew.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

Mary Poppins
Fantasia
The Jungle Book
THE SECRET OF NIMH ffs!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

Kes and The Night of the Hunter?!? Are we trying to traumatize these kids? Madness for any under age ten, or even 12 p'raps.
Morbius OTM.

and Mike D too.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

50 films for children under 14 and they pick Billy Elliott which is certificate 15. Seems more like a list of films designed to appeal to an adults inner child.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

What, no PIXOTE? (least suitable film for kids starring a kid... THE TIN DRUM sort of related, tho the actor was just little)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

this is a really good list! i like the idea of considering "the bicycle thief" a kids' movie.

they sure picked the wrong marx brothers movie, tho! "duck soup" any day of the week!!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 21 July 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

Also no Bugsy Malone. The list is good but a bit earnest I think. Could do with lightening up.

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 21 July 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

spirited away is a kids' film?

i cried at the end.
