Please could someone point me in the right direction, I want to observe correct board etiquette but cannot find the thread.

I used to post here a bit before but have not done so for ages.

Thank you

Rachel Mc (Badgerkitten), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

We have etiquette?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Well, I don't want to just barge in,disrespectfully, today of all days (though I have just posted a couple of responses.) How would you like a returning new person to act? I do not want to be rude.

Rachel Mc (Badgerkitten), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

I was one myself, just recently. I just dived in as if nothing had happened, and hoped everyone assumed I'd always been here.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

(sorry if I seem rude myself - I don't mean to be)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

there is v. little protocol, here. mostly, people prefer it if you're not annoying but that isn't always possible. I think you'll be okay.

hi, I'm RJG.

crossposts

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

the old threads are long, anyway. it's probably time for a new one.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

i still feel like i'm new.
so, hi. i'm g-kit.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Hello, Rachel!

How would you like a returning new person to act?

To love me unconditionally.

nathalie's body's designed for two (stevie nixed), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

Hello, everybody! I haven't posted for ages and ages but am having an ILE renaissance these last few weeks. Hope all's well for the ex-Sinis among you.

Laurel, Friday, 22 July 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

Thank you for saying hello. *waves*
I am off work today and thought I would come back here and say hello.
i normally post on the friday project talkboards ( where I met Dave B) but I have little to say there right now. Then I moved to urban 75 but the conspiracy theory drivel is doing my head in. Then I remembered ilx and how much I liked it here.

Loving people unconditionally is A Good Thing right now.

Rachel Mc (Badgerkitten), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

hi. i'm relatively new. i live in chicago. i'm short in stature and warm-hearted.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Laurel, you're not *the* Sinister Laurel, are you? The one who was also named after an ancient oracle?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Rachel, you could post to this thread:

Okay, I'm Back. Fine. I'm Weak. I Admit It.

Or start one of your own and maybe categorise it as ILX posters. Or just continue with this one. Welcome back.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

"That was the only 'returning' thread I could find. I'm not suggesting you're weak or anything silly like that.)

Lara (Lara), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Hello, Rachel, welcome back! I think remember your username from when you last used to post.

I'm Tuomas and I'm 26. I've never bothered to learn how to drive, and I was born a Cesarian.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Hi Rachel i'm BSM ((((hugs)))) -everyone *they all look so awkward* i'm fairly new been posting for about 2-3 months now!

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

Yes, FP. Please do not go back and read any posts, they are all terribly embarassing and not at all in line with my carefully cultivated image of grown-up cool.

Laurel, Friday, 22 July 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

there is v. little protocol

Beyond the overuse of punctuations marks. (Greetings RJG, when are you coming to visit?)

Lara (Lara), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

We are all weak and silly and if we know that we are strong and wise.

Rachel Mc (Badgerkitten), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

And how is everyone since my last visit about a year ago? It is nice to be back, thank you again

Rachel Mc (Badgerkitten), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

I was just clarifying as I realised the subject line of that suggested thread was a little circumspect given the circumstances. Take care.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

I am coming, to visit, as soon as I can!

I will discuss it, with the cook, as soon as I can.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Laurel! We used to chat in #sinister, you know.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, *crosspost*

You might not have run into me before? I post only sporadically since breaking the 24/7 habit a few years back.

RJG - *wide gtin*

Lara (Lara), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

: )

who are you, forest pines?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

I second that question, since "Forest Pines" doesn't suggest anything to me besides the Pinefox, who I never quite understood anyway.

Laurel, Friday, 22 July 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

Hello Rachel!

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I am not the Pinefox.

(I think that's the second time I've had to say that)

When I first started on #sinister, I had a rather geological name.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

Hello Rachel!

beanz (beanz), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

Hi. I am Jenn. I am a pathological lurker. In the real world when I meet people, I assume that they'll have forgotten about meeting me by the next time I see them. This assumption manifests itself in virtual fora through a periodic re-introduction of myself. So, hello again.

jennpb (jennpb), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

How many new people do you have joining each month on average? This place has the feel of a very large friendly pub where most people know each other but not all

Rachel Mc (Badgerkitten), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

Dude, I'm at work, I don't have tons of time for guessing games. Spill the beans or RISK MY WRATH.

Laurel, Friday, 22 July 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Jenn, you're not an ex-Sinister person too are you?

Laurel: eek. OK, my nick in the #sinister channel was 'gneiss'.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to go ahead and get my name out here, too, because i don't reply too much, but i'm around. lurker-ish. but a lot of the time it's just because i don't have that much to say.

ai lien (kold_krush), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Hey, G, I do remember vaguely! But I have forgotten any particulars, I'm sorry. Anything specific you'd like me to remember?

Jesus, those were different days.

Laurel, Friday, 22 July 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, they were.

I can't think of anything specific myself, to be honest.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

This place has the feel of a very large friendly pub where most people know each other but not all

Less people probably know each other IRL than you think. Besides, when it's such a friendly pub, what does that matter? It's a chance to join the people who know each other ;)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

ah

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Hello to everyone!

I've been here on and off pretty much nearly 5 years now (Arrrrrrrgggghhh!). I believe ILX is something like the 125th biggest board on the internet (which is quite amazing actually).

What I love about ILX is the fact that everyone's very different but quite similar, if that makes sense. I haven't met that many Ilxors in real life (IRL) but the few that I have have all been absolutely lovely and I'm up for hosting or going to more FAPs. PS if anyone is interested in a North Herts FAP at any point to meet Battlingspacemonkey and myself then you're welcome to Hitchin at any point.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 22 July 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

I suppose this is as good a place as any to reintroduce myself, too. I lurked on ILM for about six months, then finally signed up sometime in, ooh, I dunno, about 2003.

Then I moved job to somewhere with a strict firewall and forgot all about you. Then someone I know who posts here on a near-constant basis mentioned ILM in an e-mail and I remembered and came back for a peek yesterday lunchtime. Just as all hell broke lose on the Tube. Again.

Anyway, hello world. Nice to see you.

Alex M (Alex M), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

Enough Alexes to have their own softball team! (greetings, btw)

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

I never did this, either, I guess I might as well now. howdy, I'm Mat. I'm a College Park, MD bro, and I've been reading ilx for about a year and posting for a few months now. I just realized I had a container of potato salad in my fridge that I really should have brought to work.

matlewis (matlewis), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

I was posting fairly regularly a year ago, and then I moved to Japan and started posting sporadically, then not really at all. Now I'm back home again, and as I freeload joblessly at parents until my next move, I've got lots of time to enjoy ILX.

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Jenn, you're not an ex-Sinister person too are you?
-- Forest Pines (forestpine...), July 22nd, 2005.

Ex- and current, yep that's me.

jennpb (jennpb), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

yay, laura!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

i never did this easier, but i've been reading and posting to ILX regularly for about a year now. at least a year.

i'm in Boston, I grew up with lubavich jews so i harp about that all the time. I like cooking/eating, so i post to a lot of the food oriented threads. I listen to a fair amount of music, although not nearly as much as some of the folks on ilm, and I SLSK (Fuzz_a). I'm currently far into the CLientele for my own good, and am trying to broaden my horizons and not be so godawfully rockist.

while i feel like I can recognize some people's taste (gier hongro being the most obvious) and types of stories (Gear!'s craziness for example), i dont feel "in" enough to poke jabs at, say, Ned Raggett, or to join in threads which do that sort of thing.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

I grew up with lubavich jews so i harp about that all the time

don't you mean you kvetch about that all the time?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

it's probably a little of both. while i'm thankful for some parts of the experience, i'm resentful about others.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 22 July 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Perfect. Much like many of you, I have been reading this board for close on a year and posting only recently. Anyhow, I am in Chicago and consistantly entertained by ILX.

Sparkle Motion's Rising Force, Friday, 22 July 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

hey Rachel! The post you made on Liz' thread was wonderful.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

(and hi y'all!)

luna (luna.c), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Hi Sparkle!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

There's an introduce yourself thread on ILM (a couple actually), but I think I remember Tom saying something like "there's no 'introduce yourself' thread on ILE because your posts on ILE are basically you introducing yourself" or something.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

hello laura and laurel and everyone else.
i say, jump right in! go ahead! do it! i did. and only a few bruises to show for it.
luna is especially lovely.
(flattery does wonders too, i've discovered. and ego stoking. lots of egos, not enough stoking... er... or something)
i think technically i'm still a newbie too.
so yes. hello. i'm stacey

dahlin (dahlin), Sunday, 24 July 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

I think I remember Tom saying something like "there's no 'introduce yourself' thread on ILE because your posts on ILE are basically you introducing yourself" or something.

i like that. formal introductions always feel a bit forced to me anyway.

not gettin' hassled, not gettin' hustled (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 24 July 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

so, hi. i'm g-kit.

You're not new - you're the one who did a picture of a giant cat attacking the Swiss Re building (aka The Gherkin).

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 24 July 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I am in Stockholm and my brain is made of karate. Hello.

John Cocktolstoy (John Cocktolstoy), Sunday, 24 July 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Hey John, does this mean your head's full of chopstick? ;) (Okay, okay, I'll stop that.)

Hey you guys! Welcome one and all to the massive funfest that is ILX! The fact that people such as myself haven't scared you away from here is a very pleasant surprise. I do hope you get to really enjoy your ride here on ILX Airlines and don't forget that when turbulence hits to return your seat trays to their upright and locked positions. Ta!

The Kind and Benevolent Oracle of Dee (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 25 July 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

Yep, I'm new. In my mid-twenties, like striped jerseys, own a slowly-growing beard, work as a journo. Howdy everyone!
Oh, and as I'm from Estonia - here's a quick peek to my mind's eye:

Hiya how do. There's other Estonians on this board so you're not alone.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 November 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

Cool.

Mart, Saturday, 28 November 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

i've been bumming around on ilm and ilb for the past year or so and upon realizing that ya'll are a pretty cool bunch, have decided to check out what the rest of the site has to offer. so, hello! i am a poster artist, student and musician living in montreal. i play guitar and sing songs in a few bands, and do sporadic poster-work from a couple local indie and noise promoters. looking forward to talking about everything with you all.
