Those weird gestures and facial expressions she makes during the "BORING! BORING!" part of "Nothing Ever Happens on Mars" make me laugh uncontrollably.

everyone who starred in waiting for guffman really deserves their own thread if they haven't gotten one yet, i think

Her best moment was her on SCTV doing Brooke Shields dancing to and singing to Devo's "Whip It".

No. Brenda Fricker was the main hottie in the Home Alone films.

Just announced that she's going to be in season 2 of "The Last of Us," playing a character not in the video game.

Going back to 2005 on here:

Her best moment was her on SCTV doing Brooke Shields dancing to and singing to Devo's "Whip It".

I'll go with one of Whispers of the Wolf (which I've posted too many times already..."Who booked Bergman?!") or Lola and Bobby Bittman plugging On the Waterfront Again ("Well, it was in a few places...").

clemenza, Friday, 30 January 2026 19:36 (five days ago)

Of the millions and millions of people who've seen Home Alone, I wonder what percentage know her SCTV work? You'd have to put every kid aside right away...maybe a third of adults? I don't know.

clemenza, Friday, 30 January 2026 19:39 (five days ago)

RIP

She made everything she was in sparkle

Clever Message Board User Name (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 30 January 2026 20:42 (five days ago)

I wonder what percentage know her SCTV work?

I think it's safe to say that most Americans have little idea how much Canada and Canadians has influenced comedy in general

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 30 January 2026 21:03 (five days ago)

One story goes that at the wrap party of Heartburn, in which O'Hara co-starred with Meryl Streep, someone screened this:

cryptosicko, Friday, 30 January 2026 21:10 (five days ago)

(xpost) True...I think I'd nominate O'Hara as the funniest woman to ever come out of Canada. Andrea Martin's great, but I'd give the edge to O'Hara (maybe I've forgotten someone else).

clemenza, Friday, 30 January 2026 21:16 (five days ago)

Oh, man, that clip! "I've cried a lot..."

clemenza, Friday, 30 January 2026 21:19 (five days ago)

oh no RIP, after seeing her so recently in Last Of Us and The Studio this is a shock

obvious old hat (rob), Friday, 30 January 2026 21:23 (five days ago)

Didn't know she was in either of those. What a career!

Can't think of anyone who might challenge O'Hara as Canada's funniest woman, especially if we disqualify Andrea Martin on the technicality of being born in the US (though she made her career here).

cryptosicko, Friday, 30 January 2026 21:30 (five days ago)

Geez, didn't even know that.

clemenza, Friday, 30 January 2026 21:37 (five days ago)

I wonder if SCTV's writers considered sneaking in a nod to method-acting just before she blowed up: "Can you explain to me again why I'm blowing up?"

clemenza, Friday, 30 January 2026 21:40 (five days ago)

the duet of Mitch & Mickey at the end of Mighty Wind still sticks out in my mind, what a sweet song that was

So shy, so Canadian

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 30 January 2026 22:26 (five days ago)

Second City (Chicago) and Second City Toronto’s social media accounts shared separate tributes, with Toronto showing a few brief clips, but Chicago’s has some great photos of O’Hara and her castmates from back in the day. I forgot Harold Ramis was also in the company, meaning more have passed than I realized.

I posted it before but her eulogy to John Candy is heartbreaking and I hope she gets one that’s just as moving because she certainly deserves it.

Oh yeah, there are some lovely O'Hara moments (including the eulogy) in the recent Candy doc.

cryptosicko, Friday, 30 January 2026 23:54 (five days ago)

Seems to vary depending on the platform but this was on all of the Second City IG accounts:
