1. Kettle Moraine State Park

What's the scene like at this place?

I'm from Wisconsin but I don't camp much, sorry. I can recommend Devil's Lake State Park, it's beautiful. Not sure if it's free, though.

Everything I know about Wisconsin pretty much centers around the north. The Apostle Islands are beautiful.

I know several nicknames for Wisconsinites, too. Like "Chesters."

Best thunderstorm I ever drove through was in WI, and with Autechre's "Flutter" playing too. Freaky.

I like Wisconsin, it's so cheap to drink there.

When I was in high school (in WI) everyone would camp at High Cliff State Park on Lake Winnebago. From what I recall it was only five bucks or so to camp there (though that was over a decade ago, so it may be pricier now).

If you go there, make sure not to drink too much/do too many drugs and fall off the cliff. It was a common problem.

eleven years pass...

Anyone have any top tips for places to go in Madison, WI for someone who likes books, records and beer? I've visited (from the UK) several times but I have a feeling I am missing some good stuff.
