I will be back in London after a few days away. It's been the last thing on my mind but I will have suddenly turned 30 and it would be nice to see you lot.

Glasshouse Stores from about 6ish?

robster (robster), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

no way are you 30! wow. when did that happen?

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there, of course.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

we're at the theatre just around the corner, so will either come before or after or both.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Are you performing?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

i hope not, i don't think my singing is quite up to it.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

i dare say colette would be a hit though.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

I have seen it proven by science that she is a singing superstar!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

admittedly science there = computer game SingStar. But my rating was something like 'haha you are really shit' or some such, so it seemed to know what it was about.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

it told me i was AWESOME, so it must be correct!

see you there rob

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

I am coming back from a work awayday in Somerset, dunno what time I get into Waterloo but trains permitting I'll definitely roll up for a late one.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 25 July 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

I will be there!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 25 July 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

I'd love to be there but we're off to portugal celebrating Mum's birthday. We'll be raising a glass mind (probably on the plane - it's a pretty late flight)

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 25 July 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

There with knobs on.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 July 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

knobs? oh my

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 25 July 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Damn. I have rehearsal on Thursday. But I would very much like to stop in for a pint on the way home. (It would be on my way if I walked to the 159)

It Is What A Man Does Which Demeans Him, Not What Is Done To Him (kate), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 06:42 (twenty years ago)

I'll be thinking of you guys. FAP on.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there without knobs on. However that works. (Not sure if they are detachable. Or plural.)

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

I'd love to, but geography sucks, Hope you have a good night!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

i will be there (knobs optional)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

My train gets in around Gareth O'Clock. I hope to see ruin, I do not hope to see any knobs.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 08:51 (twenty years ago)

I guess I'll leave my knob at home. I'll be there though.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

Oh, we'd love to see Steve M. Don't be so harsh.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

Oh Pete.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh Alix.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

count me in :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

if i am better :(

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

Me too please!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I'm not going to be in town for this, Rob. I've emailed your work address about a future event, however. Have a good one.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

I'm in! and yay for the GHS.

spontine (cis), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

I must bow out! I am seeing MJ Hibbett at the 12 Bar and who knows how long that will run.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

what time are you going to MJ though? glasshouse stores is like 5 mins walk away... time for a pint before and after?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Ah really? Then this sounds most feasible.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

After all, I'll be popping in for a swift pint before rehearsal (and hoping Anna doesn't check this thread to find out why I'm late - or if she does, to join me.)

It Is What A Man Does Which Demeans Him, Not What Is Done To Him (kate), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 06:44 (twenty years ago)

Probably won't have time for more than a pint tomorrow, but I'll try to pop in and say hello.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, I'll be there. I spent my b-day in the GHS too.

BARMS, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to try to travel up after work, see you there I hope!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:43 (twenty years ago)

MJH will be on for an hour, this night will be on for five. Do the math.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

Yay Archel! And Ptee OTM.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

i have had FACT from mr hibbett that he will be on about ten pm, so plenty of time for both things in one evening.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

Fantastic that Archel is coming! I get to taking so many here for granted at FAPs, which is probably bad of me, but I don't imagine anyone ever thinks "Hey, fantastic! Martin's making the effort to walk down the road to the pub!" either.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

Well, it looks like my rehearsal has been cancelled, so I'm going to be making it for the whole evening.

Can't promise I won't be pouring drinks over anyone's head, though!

It Is What A Man Does Which Demeans Him, Not What Is Done To Him (kate), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, Kate, is that a threat? Perhaps you didn't see what happened to Graham when he tried it. I would definitely suggest that you not try it, least of all with me.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

It actually speaks volumes about your concept of morality that you are now threatening violence at an FAP which is supposed to be for the benefit of Rob.

As I have no intention of causing Rob any more upset than he already has to deal with, then I will not attend the FAP tomorrow. Or indeed any further FAPs until certain people here have learned minimum standards of public behaviour and conduct.

Jesus, what a fucking pain in the arse.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

I read that as a joke, Marcello, and I'm sure it was meant as one.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Marcello, that was very obviously a joke.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

i will try and attend.

brockwell lido (gareth), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

if anyone intends to pour a drink down my throat on thursday i would gladly down it. especially if a funnel is involved.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

even banana cream liqueur?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

if you're buying

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

x-post

Victoria -> 38 or any bus which goes to Piccadilly Circus (they should say so on the front*) -> Piccadilly Circus -> 3 minute walk up to Brewer Street -> Archel at a FAP hooray!

*Don't get the 8 though because that turns off Picaddilly before you get to Piccadilly Circus

Lundun Bridge -> train to Charing Cross (they go every 5 minutes or so from Platform 6) -> buses 23 or 6 or 15 to Piccadilly Circus. You could get the Bakerloo from Charing Cross to Picc Circus also but the bus is nicer.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 28 July 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Alix and Tim, bus from Vic it is!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 28 July 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

the 521 goes from london bridge to aldwych

the RV1 goes along the south bank, looping around waterloo in a slightly insane looking way, and then ends up at covent garden

i heart spider maps

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

(Spider Maps is the name of me and Johnney B and Emsk and MarkH's new band!)

Masonic Boom (kate), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

ALl 3 of Mark's statements above are absolutely true (well the third one might be a DIRTY LIE but I bet it's not). However, none of them are very helpful for getting anyone to the Glasshouse Stores.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I should be there before 6, with a Sarah, unless she is intercepted for DDR action.

Beanz, I will give my usual advice: if you don't see anyone you recognise, go up to random strangers and say, in a furtive whisper, "Do you love... everything?" It's a guarantee of an interesting evening, whether you find us or now. (Or you could look for me, as I will be there early, and we have met.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

i think i will recognise beanz if i get there early, but this will depend on how long my haircut takes.

also, yay for stevie being there, haven't seen him in an age.

lex., Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

Martin I did almost exactly that on my first and so far only fap! I got a couple of odd looks before finding stevem. And I'll certainly recognise you. xpost and lex

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

a brisk walk does none harm

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Looks like I'm actually getting out of work on time today! Wow. See you soon.

Masonic Boom (kate), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to do a little shopping before hand, I have been forbidden from riding my bike home pissed so will be on foot so I guess i will see you in a little bit.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

I am still here in Wimbledon but wrapping things up and will be off soon, so catch everyone in an hour or so, I figure. Alas Stevie cannot make it and sends his apologies -- he got stuck doing a Death Cub for Cutie interview instead. Ick.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 July 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

I can't make it up from Oxford tonight, alas, sorry.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 28 July 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Well it's after seven now. I sincerely hope mark s walked into the pub, shouted "BEANS!!" and looked around wildly.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 28 July 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

he got stuck doing a Death Cub for Cutie interview instead. Ick.

Are they the emo version of Cub? Please say yes.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Thursday, 28 July 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I miss all you guys already. Hope you had fun xxx

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 28 July 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

miss you too ailsa!

this was fun. for some reason people are still making 'indie' jibes at me.

mmm cis and starry's DINOSAUR biscuits!

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

is 'indie' a new phrase for 'drunkard' now?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

if it was then i would possibly be able to take it as a compliment!

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

(it so is isn't it?)

(attempts to styart new meme)

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, dinosaur biscuit FITE! And strawberry upsidedown cake.

We found Beanz, or rather Beanz found us, so there was no need to shout.

Erm... a nice evening, generally. I feel bad for leaving so early but I was starting to become delusional and Emsk and I were testing for smugglers holes in all the booths. I wish I were small so I could go to Ed's camp. As small as the Pasty Pirate perhaps.

Who gets Captain Anderson next? Ed or Emsk, I can't remember.

(I never did find out who Lyndford Christie was or what he got done for. But also, I just recalled the Babe Ruth's record was beaten by Hank Aaron, so I would have pwned you all at American Trivial Pursuit.)

Lex, people keep making indie jibes because you keep going on about your fandom for TORI AMOS. Duh!

Glarg, I am tired today.

Masonic Boom (kate), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

I think I have to solve the universe from first principles before I get sticky captain anderson, plus I am off to camp ad will have no time for reading, so I think Emsk must be next. Besides i seem unable to finish 57 pages of tiny Alice Walker speach book with enormous gutters and margins.

Ed (dali), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:42 (twenty years ago)

::spasms of envy at the universe from first principles book::

Sounds like I really need to get that.

Masonic Boom (kate), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

that was fun - sorry we didn't make it back, we didn't get out of the theatre until 10:30 and at that point my cold had progressed to the coughing-my-guts-up stage, and really i don't think any of you wanted to see that.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

Tori Amos is the thin end of the wedge.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

I am also happy to report that I did indeed manage to remember to buy milk on the way home. Though I obviously did not wash properly in the shower, and still have the ghostly remains of "MII" faintly visible on the back of my hand. If anyone asks, I will tell my colleagues that it is actually Latin for one thousand and two, and nod knowingly.

Masonic Boom (kate), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:56 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, Sam Smiths always brings on nostalgia for student life in Yorkshire, leading logically to student amounts of beer consumption. I am very tired.

On reflection, London was quite far for me to go just to get pissed and talk nonsense, but I don't regret it for a second. I DO regret leaving my wallet in the pub though. Oh well. Mmm, biscuits! I hope Rob had a nice time.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 29 July 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

Very good evening, and MJ Hibbett later in the company of Carsmile a perfect capper. But yes, great to see everyone again, and to talk to Rob in particular.

If I don't get a chance to see most of y'all today or tonight, then next time. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 July 2005 07:23 (twenty years ago)

Sorry I couldn't say longer. Didn't get to say hi to anywhere near everyone I wanted to. It's a bit late now, but Hi!

beanz (beanz), Friday, 29 July 2005 07:29 (twenty years ago)

for some reason people are still making 'indie' jibes at me.

Because you keep saying things like "I like Will Oldham" and "I own both Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia albums but prefer the early stuff"?

I had a lovely time. Thanks London.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

yes but no one was ever meant to know about that!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I KNOW members of Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia and I'm still the scientifically-proven Least Indie Person Who Has Ever Lived Ever Ever Ever!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

MBICR aren't indie, they're...they're goth actually. Which is no better!

But they can't be goth because Ollie is fit, so.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

I thought we established last night that Goth > Indie > Emo in terms of what is acceptable.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

I fully agree with this equation.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:47 (twenty years ago)

I demand more space annexing Emo

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, I got too derrailed by the discussion of Kevin Haskins' and Peter Murphy's Bauhausian beauty to pay attention.

Masonic Boom (kate), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:48 (twenty years ago)

Wot about Grime In 2005?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

stevem called me a goth, for no apparent reason. the slurs were flying last night.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:54 (twenty years ago)

You were dressed in dark clothes, ergo you are a goth. (This might not be true.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

Lauren it's because you like Black Strobe.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

"I'm not a goth I just like the clothes!"

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

oh... i forgot about the blackstrobe thing. still.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 29 July 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

It was a good night. It warmed my heart a little, to spend time with some old, young sinister people. Kenneth Chu spoke well on technology. Rob made a joke about T.S. Eliot. I am going to look for Joyce's parody on line, some time. Remind me. Also, a terrific conversation involving Carsmile as expert on PERFORMANCE ART, Mark S on its roots in Performance Poetry, and Martin Skidmore on the Eastern dimension, with me knowing next to nothing on the subject but aspiring to the 'so - can you fill us in on this aspect' amateur Melvyn Bragg role.

the pinefox, Friday, 29 July 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Also, RAGGETT made some entertaining comic appearances - he would suddenly leap out from behind a pillar and say 'Hey, Pinefox!', very loud. Which was good.

the pinefox, Friday, 29 July 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

i tried that last week. but you didn't seem to appreciate it as much.

dahlin (dahlin), Friday, 29 July 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Your hair's too short.

Mädchen (Madchen), Saturday, 30 July 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

not short enough. i'm giving richard scissors today

dahlin (dahlin), Saturday, 30 July 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

It will come as no suprise to some of you that I never found that "Gaza" place on Wardour Street afterwards. I did however go to work yesterday morning wearing the same clothes from Thursday night and persisting in spite of 2 hours sleep and alcohol poisoning.

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Saturday, 30 July 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

haha you were looking for a strip club?

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 30 July 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)
