Forest Pines is coming to London - FAP?

I visit London every year or so, but usually think "nah, noone will actually want to meet me", and because I have enough rejection in my life without being ignored by internet weirdos too. Given recent events, though, I've decided that if you want to meet people you've got to damn well go out and tell them so while you have the chance.

So, Fancy A G&T

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

formatting, dude. whe're you over here?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Arse.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Let me repost the end of that:

So, Fancy A G&T Pint?

I'm going to be in London from the 12th to the 15th, but it's because I'm off to a party on the 13th. So, does anyone fancy some sort of convivial, gregarious, psychogeographical and alcoholic event on Sunday August 14th?

Go on. You know you want to.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

I can't work out if you're someone I know or should know who has been acting mysterious at what felt to me kind of like the wrong time, or what...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

I don't think you *know* me. I'm almost certain we've never met.

I've been posting, under this username, for about a month.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

(but I'm one of the Sinister collective, so I know a fair number of other ILXors)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

Okay - I was unclear.

A little red cross?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

(hahah, I WISH i was that hot)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

...with a fragrance of air freshener

Bob Six (bobbysix), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

I am a forest of those little trees that dangle from car mirrors.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

are you the Pinefox's smutty evil twin?

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 25 July 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

No, I know too much about computers for that.

I *am* smutty, though. Some would say evil too.

I met the Pinefox once. It was in Glasgow, and he was wearing a purple jumper. I think you might have been there too.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

I have been to Glasgow, but I never met the Pinefox there. HOWEVER I did once go to an event there that the Pinefox was at, only I didn't know what he looked like at the time. So you never know.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 25 July 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Bump!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

I have met Forest Pines! I heart Forest Pines! I will be up for this if I'm not in Cambridge. (Have we sorted the CAMFAP out yet?)

I have met the Forest and he is the roxor.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

I can't do Sunday 14th evening but maybe some other time that weekend. If you plan anything else then let us know. I wonder if we know each other from Edinburgh

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 07:17 (twenty years ago)

> I met the Pinefox once... and he was wearing a purple jumper.

um, that doesn't narrow it down much... 8)

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

If not, we might well have mutual friends. Did you know Alex T? I think I vaguely remember him from my short time at the Student.

I did archaeology myself, with outsides in the anthropology, celtic studies and scandinavian studies departments. Oh, and I had a part-time job in the Main Library Reserve Section, so practically everyone who was a student around George Square will have been around me at *some* point.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

You've got mail

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, where are you considering FAPping? Somewhere on the water? With nice Sunday Roast? Maybe a walk, as well?

It Is What A Man Does Which Demeans Him, Not What Is Done To Him (kate), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Gosh, it's a small world!

I really have no idea. I'm not even exactly sure where I'm staying - it's in the east end, on the District line. Possibly somewhere near Mile End.

I don't know if I'll be ready for a Sunday Roast - it depends how drunk I get on Saturday and how hungover I am. I was thinking of something like an afternoon walk followed by pub dinner.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

That would be lovely - Mile End is nearish to the canal (I think?) so that would be a good place for a watery walk - supposedly there is a good gastropub on the canal by Vicky Park, which might suit our purposes (though it's hard to get people to go that far East so maybe we should walk towards Islington and find a pub there.)

what year? i'm assuming i had long gone by that point. but my sprit lingered for a long time in a dusty basement of the pleasance.

either that or my BO.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

Sham eyour not down next weekend (*6th&7th August) as there is a CAMRA beer fest at Earls court thats sure to be fun that i'm off too, as opposed to 15th when i'll be in France.

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

It was 96-97, when I was in first year, and the last year before they stopped charging for it. I must have written no more than 500 words the whole time I was there.

(xpost)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

i'd fucked off by then. i was editor in 1995, followed by g0rd0n and 4l, then t0m and 4ngelin4, then ... i forget. alext, where are you when we need you?

oddly enough, i was at a wedding with a variety of former student hacks last week. none of us have changed at all. this is probably a bad thing for society at large.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

I am glad in someways that I *didn't* become a student hack - if you got Sucked In then you were lucky to make it out of 60 Pleasance sometime that decade.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

absolutely. it was frightening how obsessive we all some of us a handful of incredibly sad bastards became :)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, back to the FAPping... can we have it on a boat? Walking along the river I couldn't help but notice all the floating bars. I've had pleasant drinks on several them a few summers ago.

The Queen Mary of Glasgow by Waterloo Bridge, perhaps? Or that one further East whose name escapes me?

It Is What A Man Does Which Demeans Him, Not What Is Done To Him (kate), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 07:15 (twenty years ago)

Boat FAP! I will be tempted to break my London ban if there are to be boats AND Forest Pines...

Btw Kate did you get my email?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I did, Archel, thank you! It was very much appreciated indeed, both words and images. I was going to email you back during my coffee break.

It Is What A Man Does Which Demeans Him, Not What Is Done To Him (kate), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

Cool (I didn't mean to hurry you for a reply though, just checking!)

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

I've always wanted to go on HMS Chrysanthemum, just because of the name. It's at Embankment iirc.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

The only problem with the ship/bars might be the expense - I suspect the closer to the West End, the more expensive. The one that was quite far East I remember as being rather reasonable.

That said, I would love dearly to go on a ship called the HMS Chrysanthemum!

It Is What A Man Does Which Demeans Him, Not What Is Done To Him (kate), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

One of the floating bars is, like me, from Lincolnshire. The only problem is that it's (probably) a very expensive one - the Tattershall Castle (of Grimsby), near Hungerford Bridge.

(I think it's still there - it certainly was a few years ago)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and, Archel: I definitely think you should come along, because I can't believe that we've never actually met.
