Dumb HTML code question: How do I post a link, but not as it's http address?

You've seen it done a bajillion times. Someone alludes to something, like...

"The new Simple Minds album is stinky crap, or so it says here.

Now, imagine that underlined phrase as a hotlink which will bring you to the article in question.

Am I making sense? This has always puzzled me.

Tanx in advance.

Whoa. Have you never done this, Alex? Only just that it seems strange that you've been here for as long as you have.

Uh, view one source?

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

It can be a bit of a headache to figure out which bits of the source do what.

And I think Alex was asking if there's an easy way of doing it similar to how you can just drop in a URL and it 'works'. The answer is no, the magic that posts your message also converts http://www.ilxor.com to <a href="http://www.ilxor.com">http://www.ilxor.com</a> automatically. Anything else you have to do the hard way.

Something similar happens with images.

html = the hard way (!??)

www.webmonkey.com

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Er, yes. Compared to "copy link from thing up up, paste into message". If it's even that complicated any more, there are probably some browsers that will let you drag it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

have you guys tried the funky image linking too?

It's also a fun way to do false links that go nowhere.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

I didn't know that you could do the img src thing on here, since the whole ihttp://www.i_followed_by_picture_link.jpg thing was put into place.
