Do you just have your e-mails in your Inbox? They shouldn't cause too much of a problem if they're in their own folder. At the very least a folder called "2004" and one called "2003" etc. will help prevent the database from churning to a halt (if that is the problem you're having).

i just spent the whole day filing them in a million little folders!! the giant inbox was the problem i think --- it all seems very smooth and sweet now

I archive out every couple of months. I can't remember when Mac Mail moved from single file to multi file email storage, no real need to then, although I still do. Your AIM was after bedtime last night mark.

can you import more than one difft old ADDRESSBOOK file?

I have just switched over to Mail from years and years of Eudora because I wanted better integration with Address Book etc. So far it's OK but here are my two annoyances: I don't want it to make the "new mail" sound when it's putting everything into Junk Mail, and I want it to leave mail on my mail server not for one day (which is too short) or one week (which clogs up my server) but for three days (which I was able to tell Eudora to do, but for some reason Mail is hard-wired for "one day", "one week", multiples be damned!).

Any ideas on making Mail work more like how I want it to work?
