when you're already drunk why would you buy another newcastle brown just before you leave a bar for the road?

haha but IT WAS GREAT. i was even on a bus that terminates outside my house so falling asleep on it was not a problem. except i did spill some newccy on my jeans and make it look as if hari had peed on them.

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:22 (twenty years ago)

I'd probably be buying LOADS more. Just in case the alcohol wears off before I arrive home. You never know!

I once fell sleep on the bus and ended up in the... well I don't know where. Some suburb. It was the last stop and it was about five in the morning. So all I could do was stay on the bus until he started his route again. I decided to get off where I started and just walk to the station and get the first train.

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:22 (twenty years ago)

haha, once i fell asleep on the tube, and went one stop too far.

so i took the tube the other direction, and fell asleep on that (would have been 2 minutes) journey! And ended up at the southernmost tube station in london. and it was the last tube so no trains home! fuck.

so drunkenly, i took the bus, and fell asleep on that!!!!! shit yeah?? when i woke up, i realised that not only did i fall asleep on the bus, I TOOK IT TO THE WRONG DIRECTION! i ended up in somewhere without a london postcode, and (seemingly) somewhere that radiotaxis couldn't find. wtf.

the buses had all finished, so in the end, i ended up tracking the bus route (by looking for the same bus number on the bus stop signs, at every cross junction i would have to try each road until i find the bus stop), back to the train station, by the time i got there, it was dawn and the tube started running again!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:29 (twenty years ago)

I have only ever fallen asleep drunk on a night bus once. Fortunately, it was the 159 and I woke up at the Streatham Bus Garage, which is only a few blocks from my house.

Masonic Boom (kate), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

i fell asleep on the N253 on the way home after saturday night, and woke up between camden and euston. i never fall asleep on the bus, i was quite surprised

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

There is currently an empty bottle of newcastle at the bottom of the stairs in my building

AND IT SMELLS LIKE RANCID CHINESE FOOD IN THE STAIRWELL....

....

SORRY BUT IT IS TRUE DUDE

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

so you went to mccluski's bar, then, ken?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

jon i still don't know if this is true, but apparently the newcastle you get in america is different to the ones you get here! i have no idea.

but anyway yes it would smell awful if you leave it in the stairwell! That's why you DRINK IT BEFORE IT GOES RANCID. :)

xpost haha actually it was the delightfully named "Pleasure Unit" on Bethnal Green Road. I have always remembered the place as being quite cold, but perhaps it was winter the last time I went. This time the place was very warm, and there was a lot of indie boy sweat.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

I love the concept of the Pleasure Unit, but in actuality it is fairly dire. A shame.

Masonic Boom (kate), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

One of the problems I have with beer is that I cannot seem to drink it quickly enough to get it finished before it starts to go rancid.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

get half pints! :-D

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

jon i still don't know if this is true, but apparently the newcastle you get in america is different to the ones you get here! i have no idea.

I didn't have any in the UK! I had... Kroenberg mostly ithink

I DONT KNOW I AM SO ANGRY AND TIRED GOOD NIGHT MY LOVES

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

That's why I drink spirits

a) less alcohol, so I can keep up with rounds whilst being a lightweight
b) doesn't go minging and stale after being poured for 15 minutes
b) taste nicer than beer anyway

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

but spirits have more alcohol!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

note: "spirits" by definition includes "methylated spirits"

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

when you're already drunk why would you buy another newcastle brown just before you leave a bar for the road?

Answer's in the question, Ken

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

yes, in drunk logic it isn't "despite" but "because"! "Haha now I am so drunk I NEED ANOTHER BEER!"

OleM (OleM), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:58 (twenty years ago)

haha yes drunken logic ROCKS! i was still a little merry during the first couple of hours of work. mmm hangover soon i'm sure.

newcastle brown is a fine fine beverage. but the star on the back label never seems to turn blue at 12C as it claims to do.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

N. Brown is great because of the phonetic blurb on the back.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

aye like!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

By volume they have more, but a single measure has less booze in it than most pints of beer.

d) less volume means fewer toilet breaks

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

oooh yes but but sometimes you end up drinking it quicker! (or i do anyway) and it's more expensive.

if i am richer i'd probably drink spirits all the time too though. mmm the double whiskeys.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

not that the newccy was cheap last night!! £3.50 a bottle! och nooo! oh wait that's scottish not geordie.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

More expensive is a downside, I have to admit. However, as I've said, I'm a lightweight anyway.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

is "newccy" the way to spell newccy? or is it "newcy" or "newky"? "newqui"

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

Newquay

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

nukey?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

nuclear brown ale

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

i think i'm becoming a proper alcoholic.. i really fancy a drink right now.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

around this time last year i worried myself with the drinking once. i went through like a 2 week drinking streak of like boozing heavily every night. with the finalé of the final saturday getting completely ratarsed with my flatmate, we drank beers and spirits and wine and stuff!

woke up the next day my flatmate was like "fucking hell, my head" and i was like "oh shit.. i need to stop drinking because I feel absolutely fine.. wtf" and i stopped for a few days and that got some of the intolerance back.

maybe i should have kept going though so I'd achieve some kind of permanent hangover-immunity

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

I think it must be 'Newcy', right? Newccy just looks Welsh. Booze logic may be some form of self-protection, not allowing you to sober up and get a hangover before you've had some time to sleep it off (although sometimes it goes too far, hence drunkest man in the world last night attempting to buy more beer when he actually had about 3/4 of a pint left, and the bar was closed).

(I found The Pleasure Unit was pretty nice, actually, although incredibly painfully hot and sweaty, and OMG!! Ken C!!11! HI DERE LOL).

emil.y (emil.y), Monday, 1 August 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

wahhhaHAHa ROFL H1 DERE EMIL.Y!!!1

and the pleasure unit is fairly pleasurable most of the time, it's fantastic when it's not indie boy sweat dominated! I had to escape to the outside a couple times.

i hope drunkest man in the world managed to drink the final 3/4 of the pint. unfinished drinks (much like unfinished dinner) makes me angry and sad.

I'm still unsure about newcy - It always makes me want to say it like "newsy brown" like i would to new zealand brown ale! or sing to the tune of "lucy brown is back in town"

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

Hm, maybe Newky then - but Newccy makes me inclined to say it like Newchy, and I can't see any logic behind the formation, really.

And no, drunk man got thrown out by the bar staff, which was lucky for him as I think our drummer was about to hit him. Eep. I tend to not finish my drinks properly due to warmy flatness anyway (unless I'm on spirits, as others have noted above).

emil.y (emil.y), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

oh dear. i must have just missed the drunk man incidence. i hope he got his "you're a hit" stamp removed from his hand.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

it's kind of surprising that i found my way back to my hotel after the nyc fap saturday. cause i don't quite recall doing so.

i should probably drink less.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

He should have had an "S" added to it. To be honest, I think he was only an asshole because of his drunkitude, and our drummer is a grumpy Geordie who has a bit of a short fuse. (xpost)

emil.y (emil.y), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

(hangover update: it set in at 13:40. was about to go for a massive KFC when my boss reminded me of a meeting at 2pm. yikes. no lunch til 3 and by then i was too knackered to head down to colonel's place, and thus pot noodles for lunch yum! the newky induced glee finally faded completely, but good news is only another hour of work to go!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

no, drink the same amount! in my experience the journal home is the bit that you don't really want to remember.

xpost i wonder who the drunk was! Every bar should have an "i'm a drunken shit" stamp that bouncers can apply to drunkard's foreheads before throwing out.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

can't wait for the next time i drink. (which may be tonight!)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

maybe i'll just go home to play civilizations 3 though. (and pick up a newky b from the offie)
