the thing with acting is: ok, have your schtick, but use it sparingly. otherwise only deliverately contrived scripts will work for you, eg, a script about a man who is deadpan about everything. fuck that shit! i guess there's a kind of logic with this 'minimalist' actor hooking up with 'minimalist' director jarmusch. minimalist can just mean wilfully affectless. AS HERE.

Kitano wins, but I'd love to see them both in Lost in Translation II.
Miike to direct.

Ha ha, I was thinking of TK when reading the other BM thread. Thing is, TK has this sense of meance (as a film actor, if not as a TV actor) that totally adds weight to the deadpan. BM just has the sadness and a stiffness that I find a bit zzzz. But, according to a Jim J. profile, BM walked into a neighboring house while filming--just walked in the front door, didn't even bother knocking, and came out with a plate of cookies. No manners! I get the sense that BM is supposed to be so problematic in real life, walks to the beat of his own drum, just wondering, is he an alcoholic or something? I just wonder, how he got to wear he is now, from his time as a younger actor, didn't he used to have more spirit and gumption, or am I mixing him up with someone else? Just because you get older you don't need to get all weepy.

N_RQ needs to see Bela Tarr's "Satantango," which makes Jarmusch look like the Farrelly Brothers.
