I have never had a birthday thread before. It is very touching to read so many people saying "Happy Birthday". And Alba's photo (!!). I had a very lovely birthday, daytripping to North Berwick with RJG. We listened to "Jon Ronson On..." on the train, ate our sandwiches in Princes Street Gardens, then went to the Scottish Sea Bird Centre where I saw many pictures of puffins and gannets and guillemots and a cormorant or two. I looked through binoculars and may have seen some real-life puffins on the Bass Rock but wasn't 100% sure. There were mostly gannets. I saw the sea, and then it rained a little and we came home, via Sainsbury's to buy a giant cake.

This is certainly a good birthday and may even be the best ever, because I got the nicest present I've ever had.

I love this thread! I was thinking of reviving it myself.

I am not having as good a birthday as last year, but last year's would be hard to beat. I am still having a good day, because I was praised at work, and then on the tram on the way home two buskers got on and did an amazing guitar and bongos version of Dragostea Din Tei by Ozone.

Tonight I am going out to sample the mussels in Brussels, by way of celebration. I am a bit wary of being sick. I haven't vomited on my birthday since 2002.

I managed almost a whole bucket of mussels, and a plate of chips, and a waffle with ice cream. And it rained torrentially as soon as I left the house, and I am soaked. So my 21st birthday turned out to be also the most Belgian day of my life so far.

Mussels were brilliant! I don't even feel that sick. I felt very grown-up eating them too.
