Dublin FAP this week?

Any Dublin ILXors interested in getting together for a FAP this week? I'll be in town until Saturday morning and would be up for grabbing something to drink and maybe a bite to eat one of these evenings. It would nice to see Andrew, the DV, Rener and Lara again.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

i'd be up for it. what day were you thinking of?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

I would like to but I'm in Scotland from Thursday morning to Monday afternoon, I always seem to be away when you're here!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

As far as I know:

Me = down for this, as long as it's not Thursday
DV = possibly down for this
Rener = far far away
Lara = probably either far away or flitting around getting ready for a wedding
Others (penelope, droid, ???) = mysterious

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

It's true - Ronan and I seem to be on opposite schedules. But if you're not leaving until Thursday morning, perhaps Wednesday evening would be a possibility? That sounds like it might work for one and all of those who can make it.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I would like that, I am also quite sick at the moment, but I am working in the city centre till 7 tomorrow and would definitely pop out for a little while, unless I'm feeling really bad.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

this begs the question...what venue?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

I can come out for food and/or drink any night this week EXCEPT tomorrow, so that's me out if it's tomorrow.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Somewhere central I guess would be good. O'Donoghues was fairly nice as I recall and not too far away, but I am open to any suggestions.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

xpost- Oh no, we have scheduling conflicts. I guess another possibility would be Friday, although then Ronan wouldn't be able to make it. Tonight I think I will probably be too tired to go out, since I took the red-eye flight last night and didn't get more than an hour or two of sleep.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

if it is better for people to do another day don't worry too much about me, I am pretty sick and won't be able to drink or maybe stay that late even, I want to try and be ok for my trip to Scotland if possible, though it's late in the day now

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

O Donoghues is quite a distance away from Ronan's work by Dublin standards, ie 25 minutes walk. Which is pretty far if you've got a busted lung.

There are some nice places nearer Ronan in Temple Bar, EG the IFC bar.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Temple Bar would be fine too. My lungs seem to be holding together for the time being, so I don't mind walking.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

my lung isn't busted it seems. nobody knows what's wrong with me! maybe a virus they say, maybe stress they say!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

but yeah temple bar is best for me

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Are you free Friday, accentmonkey (who I forgot in my listing, to my shame)?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Well, if tonight is the night that works best for everyone else, then I suppose I will just have another double espresso and say to heck with sleep. Would there be any consensus around that, say in the Temple Bar area?

xpost

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

tomorrow night is best for me

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

Will you be able to come out tonight anyway?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure really, I won't be in town and am not feeling so good, I was hoping to feel better tomorrow plus be in town anyway! It might be best to plan excluding me, I really should probably stay in, I'm only working tomorrow cos I have to!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

I am not well either (and probably won't be for the rest of my life the way I feel right now!) but thanks for including me.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

Another possibility is that depending on whether tonight or Friday works best for Trish, and if people are up for multiple FAPs in one week, we could possibly split into two gatherings: one tomorrow and one either tonight or Friday. Another question mark: we still haven't heard from the Vicar.

xpost

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

sorry, busy busy. Also fire drill. This is basically not the best of weeks for me, FAP-wise, but I can spare a little time tonight. I might be able to come along late on Friday.

By the way Nate, if you are interested in music, popular local band The Jimmycake are playing a free gig on Thursday in The Village. They're instrumental rockers with a large lineup featuring a variety of non-rock instruments (as well as the usual), and are worth seeing at least once. Having said that, they are apparently going to be doing experimental and under-rehearsed new material at this gig (hence the free-ness) and so may be rub. I am going to this gig, probably with people from the other internet, so we could have a Dublin ILX-Bowlie joint gig adventure at that.

Tonight or tomorrow: I can meet after work for a quick pint, combined with food or whatever. Because I am weak-willed this will probably result in me being thrown out of a pub at midnight.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

I'd probably rather Friday than tonight, but I'm also weakwilled, so will go along with whatever Nate decides.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

Others (penelope, droid, ???) = mysterious

very mysterious.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

That Jimmycake gig sounds too good to pass up, so I will definitely plan to check that out on Thursday.

Tonight I suspect that I may be in a zombie-like state, so if the choice is between tonight & Friday, I would prefer Friday. Perhaps we could plan to have the official FAP on Friday then if that works for everyone else. That leaves us a little time between now & Friday to pick the venue.

And then tomorrow I'd be up for grabbing a quick pint too if any are interested.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Lara = probably either far away or flitting around getting ready for a wedding

Confirmed :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

Nate and I have been talking, using the magic of e-mail. We are going to grab pints after work on wednesday, in the Temple Bar area, so that if Ronan and/or anyone else is free to join us, they can.

I think we should go somewhere pub-like that does food... like the IFI or the Porterhouse.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Bottom. I have to go home early tomorrow because it is the only day when I get off work early this week and I have stuff to do at home.

But I am free on Friday if anyone else is coming out on Friday.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

DV and Accentmonkey, impress upon Nate the pressing need (which he may not have known about until now) for him to join Franks.

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

impress the pressing need, that's smooth. DAWP!

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, I'm sorry I voted for you now.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, I'm sorry I voted for you now.

Er, I mean yes, of course.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

hahahaha!

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

I would like to hear more about this mysterious association of Franks. I remember the Truckdrivin' Buddha telling me a little about it (I like the new moniker btw, it reminds me of the Thinking Fellers song, "Truckdrivin' Man") and it piqued my curiosity. I would like to do something on Friday too, and I think Andrew does, so that's three at least.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Hey wait, are you friends with the Truckdriving Buddha? That's it, the FAP is over.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

That was a joke.

It's a pity you aren't here next week, for then I could give you a copy of the Frank's. When do you actually leave? are you around at the weekend?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

reading the thread answers my question.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

what's the specific time and venue for this FAP?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

The Truckdrivin Buddha and I met at the FIMAV festival (annual experimental music fest) earlier this year. That's when I learned about the Franks connection. Unforunately, I am returning early on Saturday, but perhaps the next time I'm back I could see a copy.

For this evening, I think we're planning to meet sometime after 6, perhaps around 6:15 or so. I would be happy with any of DV's suggestions.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

I went to another internet FAP in the Porterhouse last week, and it worked. I ate food and drank beer. So maybe there. I'd like somewhere I can eat food while drinking. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Nate - we are on the same side of town, so we could meet around this area and stroll over.

Kilian, you coming along? Kewl.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

Hopefully I'll see you next time, Nate.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

Wait - are we still planning something for Friday? I thought maybe we would have a chance to meet then.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

Others (penelope, droid, ???) = mysterious

Wow - someones got a great memory... I was never the most prolific ILX'r, and havent posted in ages...

In the studio this weekend (as always)!

droid, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

I am sorry not to attend the Dublin FAP.

the finefox, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

It's gonna rock, like only a Dublin FAP can.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Wait - are we still planning something for Friday? I thought maybe we would have a chance to meet then

In that case I will see you on Friday. Decide if you want eats or treats (er, booze) and I'll decide if I can think of anywhere to go. Is anyone else coming with us?

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

I think Andrew said he would be up for going out Friday, and DV said he might be able to stop by. I guess we'll see who all can make it. If people would rather just meet for drinks, that would be fine, or we could combine it with food as well.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

"Kilian, you coming along?"

Yes. Have we settled on the porterhouse? half 6 or so?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

I think that's the plan. Sounds good.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

that's it! let it rock.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Nate, sorry to have missed you. I am in the UK. I have moved in with the friend you met the last time you were here and we could have had *fun*. Our new house is only a stone's throw from Waterloo Road although we would rather people wouldn't throw them.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

What kind of *fun* are you talking about?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

Thanks to all who made it to the Porterhouse last night. It was nice to finally meet Ronan and Kilian. The Weiss beer there is actually pretty good. This morning my voice is a little ragged around the edges - I think I've been fighting off a cold for a few days - but I should still be fine to make it to the Jimmycake gig this evening.

Sorry I missed you on this trip Lara. Congratulations on the new house & say hi to your friend for me!

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

Dude, do you know where the gig is? It's in The Village, which is on Wexford Street, which is essentially the same street as Georges Street, Aungier Street, and Camden Street, being the stretch thereof just south of Kevin Street.

I hear doors open at 8.30. Some of the other internet are talking about meeting in Whelans next door first. I am a bit disorganised, so don't know if I will make it there or just head to the gig.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 4 August 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Doors are at 9.00

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

Though I should point out that I'm wrong. There is a support act, though, so no Jimmy Cake action until 9.30-10.00

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

I'll probably head down there around 8:30 or so. I need to stop and grab a bite to eat first. When I get there I'll look for you all, either at the club or next door.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

Could we have a show of hands for all who are up for having a FAP Pt. II tomorrow? I'd be up for grabbing a drink after work somewhere nearby, though I may not be able to stay out too long, since my throat is feeling a bit raspy.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

I've got stuff to do tomorrow evening (that zine I was meant to tell you about), but I'll have to eat somewhere. Maybe a quick nosh and a pint after work would work for me.

Trish? Kilian?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I might also be down for food + single pint, but certainly not much more.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

CUT TO 3.00AM, with Andrew smashing up pub because they won't serve him any more alcohol.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Well, in that case, I guess we will need to select a venue.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

We could go to backup Pizza Stop, unless it's the kind of place we're embarrassed to bring visitors to? Or Juice is nice. They serve quinoa and you can laugh at my pronunciaton of it. Those are the places I usually go. There are a couple of decent Italian places on my street, and there's Poco Loco, which has fake Mexican food.

Remember though that I do not finish work until 6pm!

The Porterhouse is usually full on a Friday evening, so it's not a good bet, I don't think.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

The Porterhouse is usually full on a friday.

I would rather go to a pub that does food rather than a restaurant... however, examples of these escape me. Wait! what about ONeill's on Suffolk Street?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 4 August 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah! Good idea Vicar. Let's go there. It'll probably be full-ish too, but it is huge.

Smart.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 5 August 2005 05:30 (twenty years ago)

My amazing brain strikes again.

Ned - you've actually been to this place before, with Lara, Irene, and I, but if you can't remember where it is I can bring you there. Or you could look at a map and see where Suffolk Street is (continue on from West End of Nassau Street, pub is across road from former church that is now tourist office).

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 5 August 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Your amazing brain's on strike - that's not Ned.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 August 2005 06:01 (twenty years ago)

Haha - wait, so has Ned been to this place before, or have I? My memory is failing me.

I'll take a look at the map, and if I have any trouble figuring out where it is, I'll come back and ask for directioons.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 07:36 (twenty years ago)

Also it was nice to come out last night, and to meet Dave and Lisa from The Other Internet. Did you enjoy the band, Nate? I meant to come back over but after the band started your position in the crowd seemed pretty impregnable.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 August 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Yes, the band was great. I quite enjoyed them. They reminded me a bit of Godspeed You Black Emperor (wherever the ! goes) in their orchestral, instrumental slowly building and cresting sound. The best songs they played I think were actually better than Godspeed. The place was packed, that's for sure. The AC/DC they were playing between bands was nice too. Good sound system.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

Your amazing brain's on strike - that's not Ned.

isn't Ned a common nickname for all Americans, like the way Brian is for British people?

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 5 August 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

Actually, Ned is not a very common name in the US.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

ned is the #624 most common male name.
0.012% of men in the US are named ned.
Around 14700 US men are named ned!

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

http://www.namestatistics.com/search.php?name=ned

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, all is forgiven, since you posted that at 8am. What were you doing up so early? Do you go into work then?

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

I've been getting up at 7.00 to do zine stuff in the mornings the last couple of days. In practice doing zine stuff often means dicking about on Bowlie or ILX.

We can talk about the zine to you this evening.

Incidentally, Trish, are you likely to have a contribution for me?

Kilian - are you coming along this evening? We can talk zine to you too.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 5 August 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

what time, what time?

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Shall we say, oh, 6:30 at O'Neills?

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

6.30 is perfect for me. But of course if only o.nate and I are there at that time, we will not recognise each other.

O.nate! I am a big lady with long red hair and glasses who is wearing all brown today. I have an iPod, and a black briefcase.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

I am a tall blonde-haired guy with a black shirt and khaki pants. If I don't recognize you, I'm sure that DV will be there soon to arrange introductions. :-)

o. nate (onate), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)
