Possibly Air France...apparently over ran the runway, not sure if it's incoming or outgoing.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Sheee-it.

I guess I'll land in Toronto sometime this week...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

holy crap.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Bad news.

giboyeux (skowly), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Terrible. Anything travel related like this would be on my mind given my recent trip...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

You went on a trip? I didn't know that.

Shay McManus, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

it's kind of odd - switching back and forth between cbc and cnn and cnn's all "fireball, billowing black smoke, plane broke in half and burst into flames" while cbc is relatively much more restrained. but it looks like it was weather related. there was one heck of a storm here this afternoon.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

An eyewitness called into CP24 (a local Toronto news and info station) and said that some people escaped via the chute once the plane was on the ground. That's good news, although I'm not certain how many people were able to escape or how serious the injuries are in general.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

they are saying eveyone got out. looks ok. still pretty unusual though.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

So, no injuries, plane landed during a severe thunderstorm and possibly got hit.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe everyone lived! That's fantastic news.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Sorry meant to say no deaths, some non serious injuries.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

That's amazing.
That was some serious blazing fire. Whew!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

More passenger airplanes should be burnt - provided they are empty of passengers. It's like making an offering to the sky gods.

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

Good to hear about the rescue of them all!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

thank fucking god

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 00:04 (twenty years ago)

Those are some amazing flight attendents to get everyone out safely.

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 01:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure everyone involved shit their pants big time

Boring Satanic Space Jazz (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 01:08 (twenty years ago)

My heart instantly jumped into my throat when I heard about this. I'm so glad everyone was safe, shit-filled pants or otherwise. Freakin' thunderstorms.

Gwen Dunlop, a Toronto resident who was returning from a summer vacation in France, said she was unimpressed with the way the flight attendants managed the emergency.

"The staff did not seem helpful or prepared," Dunlop said. "At one point, someone blocked an exit to a chute."

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

That's the first negative thing I've heartd about the crew so far.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

The chances of having zero fuckups in a situation like this are small.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

If I was on a plane that was crashing, my ass would be thinking, "gee, I want to live." Which is probably what the attendants were thinking. And I'm sure its easy to mentally prepare for, you know, A PLANE CRASH. Because they're just so often.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

yeah, but isn't dealing with an emergency like the main job of flight attendants.

Super Cub (Debito), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

no, it's fucking up my drink order

Dr. Glen Y. Abreu (dr g), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

I have never had my drink order fucked up on a plane. It's not like I'm ordering a sidecar. "Little bottle of vodka and some V8, plz."

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

Next time I'm on a plane, I'm totally ordering a Long Island Iced Tea. Just to fuck with 'em.
