Stop hiding! Please come and say hello to us.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

We're quite nice, really :)

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

I've been a lurker for years. i've probably been lurking for longer than some of the regular posters have been posting...since 2002 or so, probably. It's weirdly compelling, like watching some sort of 24 hour reality programme. I know scary amounts of information about you lot, despite never having exchanged a single word.

I'm going to scuttle back into the shadows now.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

And remember, I'm watching you.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

that's the type of post that makes me want to return to lurkery again.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

(xpost)

How is life at the Telegraph these days, then?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

I bet lurker king isn't a real lurker.

Once real lurkers lose their posting virginity, they don't scuttle back to the shadows again.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Oh no I know who this one is - he writes for the abovementioned newspaper.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

Hello Lurkers! Weren't you a band?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

Unfortunately, Marcello, I'm very much unemployed at the moment, and have never been paid to write anything for anybody.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

You're not the award-winning Daily Telegraph writer who I KNOW FOR A FACT LURKS ON ILX LIKE AN UNDERUSED POT OF GLUE then?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

Alas no. Who did you think I was?

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

That's right! That's exactly right!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:53 (twenty years ago)

I KNOW FOR A FACT LURKS ON ILX LIKE AN UNDERUSED POT OF GLUE

Lurks like an underused pot of glue? How bizarre.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

I am having difficulty deciphering your cryptic remarks Marcello.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

If only you knew the truth...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

cor, this is getting exciting.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

Hmm.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Fulham Fallout was undoubtedly the best Fulham-related record to be issued since "Y Viva El Fulham" by the losing 1975 FA Cup Final Squad.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

ok I admit it Marcello, I lurk for you, to read and savour your sexy and erudite posts...mmmmm lurky lurky....

Mandy, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

Yes, but if only you were...

(No lady has ever flirted with me on ILx. It is a depressing thought)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

rapidy heading from 'exciting' to 'demented', now...

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

Shadow, shadow, shadow, shadow

Best chorus ever.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

This is about as demented as Paul Coia in KwikSave.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

i think i've had boys flirt with me on ILX.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, I am not and never have been employed by the Telegraph. Actually, I try to avoid even reading it, because the political slant tends to sends me into unsightly paroxysms of liberal/europhile outrage.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

They pay better than the Guardian though! And you don't have to sell them the rights to your writing either!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

do not say word. i lurk here. no one to know.

Sami Jheryllkanyga, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

You secret is safe with me.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

I cross you off list CJ. It is not problem

Sami Jheryllkanyga, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

Much appreciated, sami. I am the very soul of discretion. Trust me.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

since 2002 or so, probably.

ROFL! I have been here since 2001. MOFO. ;-)

I don't think I could ever post. I realize most of my remarks are actually soliloquys, but I can't help it, I NEED TO TALK.

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

i'll keep your secret too, s4m1. see, i even google-proofed you. recognise.

also, i might add that i started posting properly after a 'one-off' posting on a lurker thread like this.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

That's it, see. Post once, and you're hooked.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

i'm not!

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:26 (twenty years ago)

i gave up for a while though!

xpost (hush, you)

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

I post once then go back to lurking then post one more time then lurk then post again then lurk. I can never actually stay on a thread long enough to carry on a conversation. Like right now. I'm going off for dinner.

Later! (maybe...)

Roz (Roz), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

That's pretty much what I do too.

(The post then lurk thing, that is. Not having dinner. Although I do do that, obv.)

Ark Hopping (avoid80), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

Hello were a good group as well. Their version of "Game's Up" was far better than the Glitter Band one.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

People who say 'obv' can't be real lurkers either. I think all you folk who are pretending to be lurkers are just regulars in disguise.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

Me, I'm just a lurker in disguise pretending to be a regular.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

that makes zero sense. i was calling people "asshats" and such during my lurking days, and even pulled the ILX gang sign once.

xpost

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

Oh.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

As a bonafide lurker, I've subconsciously picked up a load of little phrases from here over the years. I use obv fairly regularly in emails, aim convos etc.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

CJ in sonned by a lurk kid after a ilx beef shocker

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

b-but lurker king - you're not a lurker any more because you're posting here now. You've broken your duck. So to speak.

Hello, by the way :)

(are you drunk greg? I don't get your banter!)

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

Good evening ladies and gentlemen! Are your cars parked nicely?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Hello

I'll relurk shortly. I'm not very bright and your witty banter intimidates me :(

It's nice to read though.

lurker king, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

What are your views on Rachel Goswell's first solo outing?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

I don't know, where did she go on her outing?

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

Vic Perry = J Sutcliffe...?

Simon Reynolds - C or D

gullible lochinski (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 5 January 2013 06:42 (thirteen years ago)

I am actually Rick Sutcliffe (it's a lie. I'm really Bret Saberhagen)

Binder, Binder & (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 5 January 2013 06:54 (thirteen years ago)

well, i lurked for yearrrs. i mostly just learned a whole lotta things on ilm, though. there are like, maybe 5 posters that i ever felt like i got to know during my dark years of lurkerdom. i'm only beginning to sort you lot out now, now that i'm finally posting.

still feel kinda crepey about my shift from lurkerdom to posting, anyway. perhaps that's why i get all tmi and overshare, to make up for it, or something.

boy_slayer, Saturday, 5 January 2013 09:37 (thirteen years ago)

also, i am fully aware that i am a TERRIBLE poster so far. i cannot believe how big the difference between lurking and actually posting is. as far as my posts, they ALWAYS come out wrong. just a little bit longer, and maybe i'll begin to say all kinds of profound things?

boy_slayer, Saturday, 5 January 2013 09:39 (thirteen years ago)

Its interesting that some ppl object to newbies knowing a lot about the board history, when we kind of encourage lurking and learning, which is common for forums. You can't win! You can barge in LouJag styles and make yr (messy) mark, blundering in knowing nothing about ILX and getting shouted at for not taking time to get the feelz of things. Or you can quietly appear and look crepey cos you lurked for some time and happen to know a few memes/popular ILXors etc as a result.

Its funny, because either way I dont recall getting hammered when I appeard here, but it was a long time ago and socks werent a think back in 03 I dont think.

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Saturday, 5 January 2013 10:11 (thirteen years ago)

ok. well, i know like, who likes what bands on ilm (and if i call killing joke goth nyc alex will kill me). but, i can't remember who defiled who's couch.

boy_slayer, Saturday, 5 January 2013 10:23 (thirteen years ago)

It was haitch's beanbag, not couch

( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Saturday, 5 January 2013 11:31 (thirteen years ago)

lolll

Una Stubbs' Tears (Trayce), Saturday, 5 January 2013 12:25 (thirteen years ago)

Has someone lurked for like.. 10 years and then started posting? That would be awesome.

Jeff, Saturday, 5 January 2013 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

slam dunk!

silver pozole (clouds), Saturday, 5 January 2013 15:47 (thirteen years ago)

coach, not couch

scattered to the nine vectors (snoball), Saturday, 5 January 2013 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

wait, wait, wait a second! Nabisco defiled... Ned Ragget's beanbag???

boy_slayer, Sunday, 6 January 2013 07:35 (thirteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Hiya. I've lurked on this board for a creepy long time. I'm aware of Marissa Marchant is how creepy I am. Anyhow I'm going to get involved in ILX so that other lurkers can go "If that mad arse can post on this messageboard then why shouldn't I get involved."

TheScienceLaw, Monday, 21 January 2013 03:54 (thirteen years ago)

you never us

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Monday, 21 January 2013 03:56 (thirteen years ago)

Ha ha ha ha. I want to be us.

TheScienceLaw, Monday, 21 January 2013 03:58 (thirteen years ago)

You'll be fine, as long as you only post inspirational Facebook macros in order to mock them.

P.S. Marissa Marchant awareness is indeed impressive, bcz MM Awareness Month doesn't happen until April.

Aimless, Monday, 21 January 2013 05:34 (thirteen years ago)

Long time lurker. I like reading what people who get paid to think and write a lot about music, think about other things as opposed to their music writing.

All kinds of heinous things, Monday, 21 January 2013 05:44 (thirteen years ago)

i should get paid to write about music

Z S, Monday, 21 January 2013 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

i bet it's a goldmine!

Z S, Monday, 21 January 2013 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

oh, you

mh, Monday, 21 January 2013 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

there is a lot of music out there, think abt it

the maybe of bâcon (clouds), Monday, 21 January 2013 23:50 (thirteen years ago)

six years pass...

Hello lurkers, why do you lurk?

pomenitul, Thursday, 28 November 2019 18:12 (six years ago)

lurking 9 to 5, what a way to make a living

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 28 November 2019 19:33 (six years ago)

all taking and no giving with these guys

maffew12, Thursday, 28 November 2019 19:54 (six years ago)

j., Thursday, 28 November 2019 19:57 (six years ago)

it's been a hard day's night and I've been lurking like a dog

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 28 November 2019 20:00 (six years ago)

I can't tell lurkers apart from my inner critics, nbd.

pomenitul, Thursday, 28 November 2019 20:01 (six years ago)

It doesn’t make any sense to me. Like ppl who scroll on fb/insta and never even click the like button. The hell

nathom, Thursday, 28 November 2019 23:47 (six years ago)

maybe we should have a button. not exactly 'like'. maybe 'acknowledge'

imago, Thursday, 28 November 2019 23:51 (six years ago)

'pondering'

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 28 November 2019 23:54 (six years ago)

I have lurked on a few sites from time to time. sometimes I would write a comment and in the writing of it realise I didn't have anything valuable to add, then I wouldn't post it. this was what I did in my first year here. still don't end up posting maybe 40% of the time. some days, like today, I take out my bad mood by posting a load of stupid jokes. then tomorrow I will regret it and lurk for a (probably short) while again.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 28 November 2019 23:55 (six years ago)

'otm'

rob, Thursday, 28 November 2019 23:56 (six years ago)

I would like just once to read a thread in alphabetical order, as god intended

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 29 November 2019 00:05 (six years ago)

maybe we should have a button. not exactly 'like'. maybe 'acknowledge'

― imago

would kill for an "acknowledge" button, i've never wanted anybody to "like" anything i say

Agnes Motörhead (rushomancy), Friday, 29 November 2019 00:15 (six years ago)

it could be variable by stylesheet selection?
acknowledge
otm
that'll do
wot's all dis den

maffew12, Friday, 29 November 2019 00:19 (six years ago)

some people like reading words, some people like listening, some people don’t automatically think their opinions are worth sharing

brimstead, Friday, 29 November 2019 01:27 (six years ago)

It makes me paranoid.

nathom, Friday, 29 November 2019 01:30 (six years ago)

we already have a button for acknowledging the value of a post, it's between "bookmark" and "link"

britain's secret sauce (seandalai), Friday, 29 November 2019 01:45 (six years ago)

tbh the politics threads here are the first place I go for news. I check in more times a day than I’d like to admit. I’d like to thank everyone there for keeping me informed and for keeping me sane in these dark years. It’s good to feel like I am among smart, sane people who have opinions that are grounded in actual reality and make sense, even if I don’t participate.

epistantophus, Friday, 29 November 2019 01:45 (six years ago)
