Fuckadoodledoo.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if they're going to air that half of season 3 ever?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

If Chappelle's the Tupac of Comedy, like Charlie sez, I bet they release it one sketch at a time with remixed outtakes from Dr. Katz over the next 12 years.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm a manitee, biatch!

Whatever, sea cow...

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Murphy, the older brother of comic Eddie Murphy, said his two seasons with Chappelle made him a star.

"Now I can go out and do stand-up," he said. "I'm getting movie offers. It's off the hook. Me getting to the next level or whatever's going to happen is going to come from the next things I do, but `Chappelle's Show' served its purpose and I'll always be grateful.

Eddie couldn't get you some play in Hollywood Charlie? Sheesh. But I think everyone all along pretty much realized that the purpose of Chappelle's show was to make Charlie a star.

Hunter (Hunter), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

not surprised, but still disappointed. I mean, what a punk move, Dave, to just take the money and run... this could totally kill his career. what else is he going to do? no one's gonna wanna put up cash for someone so unreliable, and his film track record is non-existent (Half Baked = half funny)... totally stupid...

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

unfortunately, Charlie Murphy can't rest on his CB4 laurels alone...

I hope guys like Bill Burr("Ashy Larry") can get plenty of work, too.

kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

could totally kill his career. what else is he going to do?

That's the thing, dude, is that it's not looking like he intends to have a career in the entertainment industry again whatsoever at this point. Like, it doesn't matter if it "kills his career", because he is, essentially, quitting.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

If Screwed didn't kill his career, nothing will.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

He's not the Tupac of comedy, but he is a name change away from becoming the CAT STEVENS of comedy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

oh he'll be back. He'll do stand-up for a few years and then do supporting roles in a movie or three before getting another show or another flick.

kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

If he sets himself on fire, that'll be shitty. Also, Norm Macdonald is awesome, but he's no Gene Wilder.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Are you saying that he's the RICKY WILLIAMS of comedy?

Hunter (Hunter), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

I would actually prefer Dave doing stand-up to movie or television, 100%. With as much money as he has now, he could afford to totally Pink Floyd his stand-up concerts out and shit!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

hahahaha he is DEFINITELY the ricky williams of comedy

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

GROW A BEARD DAVE

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

He'll come back to Comedy Central next year and become co-anchor of The Daily Show.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

As the white guy.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

i dunno; Dave needs an editor, which he has on television(assuming he writes with a partner ever again).

Dave on stage(seen him twice) is a deliberately rambling experience; it can be really funny, but also really sparse at times.

kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

What a coward. Dave owed it to us to keep making the Chapelle Show for another thirty years. You know, like SNL.

M. V. (M.V.), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

You know, I bet he'll do another season when he's good and ready.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

He'd better do it soon. That one trick isn't getting any younger.

Dr. Glen Y. Abreu (dr g), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

One trick?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I don't think he really made that much money up front. I saw somewhere that it was going to come in the form of DVD sales advances and other payments. The money was guaranteed, but only if he continued to do the show and the money was spaced out. It's not like Comedy Central just wrote him a check for $50 mil.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

i think he's referring to Dave's celebrated "I'm the Real Black Sheep" sketch.

xpost

kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

unfortunately, Charlie Murphy can't rest on his K-9 Posse laurels alone...

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Charlie Murphy looks good in the new rollerskating movie. He's got the part that Redman would have had three years ago.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Those two seasons are golden. Has it said anywhere that he got to keep the contract money? Seems leaving would break the contract and require him to give the money back.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

One trick?

You know, that whole telling of jokes schtick.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

not surprised, but still disappointed. I mean, what a punk move, Dave, to just take the money and run... this could totally kill his career. what else is he going to do? no one's gonna wanna put up cash for someone so unreliable, and his film track record is non-existent (Half Baked = half funny)... totally stupid...

I can't believe that he gets to do something I will never have the freedom to do!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

I dont think Comedy Central just gave him a big sack of cash with the dollar sign on it and said 'MAKE US SOME TEEVEE.' He'd have to be in some sort of breach of contract if he doesnt make the shows and shouldnt see much of that money.. except the shit ton of cash he probably made from season 2 sales, that is.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

rumor has it that one of the things dave's become addicted to lately is.....World of Warcraft.

For realz.

kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 4 August 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

I bet that he'll finish the rest of the third season sometime in 2006 and Comedy Central will happily air it the same way HBO is perfectly willing to wait a couple years for a season of the Sopranos.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 4 August 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

I MUST FIND OUT WHAT SERVER DAVE CHAPPELLE IS ON AND INVITE HIM INTO MY GUILD

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 4 August 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

what a punk move, Dave, to just take the money and run.

chappelle defaults on a huge portion of his $50 million payout if he doesn't complete seasons 3 and 4.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 4 August 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

I MUST FIND OUT WHAT SERVER DAVE CHAPPELLE IS ON AND INVITE HIM INTO MY GUILD

KONICHIWA, ARTHAS!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 4 August 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Charlie was on Howard today. He said that they have 8 of the season's 12 eps in the can and ready to go.

Since the last ep is always a clip show of either sketches or music bits, it seems like 70% of a season is pretty good, considering it's currently a dead show & all.

Just a reminder, the first of the "Lost Episodes" airs tonight!

Marmot 4-Tay: You are beautiful, and you are alone. (marmotwolof), Sunday, 9 July 2006 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

Is Dave still going to sue over their release?

milo z (mlp), Sunday, 9 July 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

This might have been a better thread to revive. Though a couple years old, it has everyone's favorite Chappelle's Show bits:
Dave Chappelle - "Killin' 'Em Softly"

A few laughs tonight. I liked the revenge skit best, especially the end where he punts the baby. Wu-Tang and Tupac bits were ok. Didn't think the one about being too rich was that funny, but it was definitely made weirder by what happened.

Marmot 4-Tay: You are beautiful, and you are alone. (marmotwolof), Monday, 10 July 2006 01:55 (nineteen years ago)

Wasn't very funny at all. CC should've listened to Dave and kept them in the cave!

Ms. Misery TX (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 July 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

I tuned into the Tupac one halfway through and, once I realized what was going on, started chuckling. "Dave Chappelle, that ain't your wife/Go HOME!!!!" hahaha

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

ok, yeah that was a little bit funny.

wtf was up with the chuck taylor makeup? would they normally tone that shit down in post-production?

Ms. Misery TX (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

yeah he looked more corpse than caucasian this time.

thought it was funny overall but the first sketch went nowhere. and having someone say "they'll say it isn't as funny as last season no matter how funny it is" doesn't stop you from being unfunny, dude.

revenge skit was definitely the best. kind of hoping maybe they're showing them chronologically and we're just seeing him warm up. it's possible, right?

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

kind of hoping maybe they're showing them chronologically and we're just seeing him warm up. it's possible, right?

possible. but more likely, they are unfinished and this is why he did not want them shown! stupid comedy central (of course I shall still watch).

Ms. Misery TX (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

Chuck Taylor always looks like a corpse!

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

pretty unfunny overall, esp the revenge sketch. how many more references to his troubles are left in these lost episodes? cuz that was plenty.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

i wish i had some screen captures at hand, dan. the makeup on last night's ep was completly over the top.

Ms. Misery TX (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, he looked like a cross between Ted Koppel and Powder.

nate p. (natepatrin), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

that was really not as funny as I wanted it to be

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

so, uh, howard dean? topical.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Monday, 17 July 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

GARY COLEMAN!

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Monday, 17 July 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

Dammit I forgot this was on. Now I'll have to wait till 9. ;,(

Marmot 4-Tay: what those guyz make music 4. (marmotwolof), Monday, 17 July 2006 00:27 (nineteen years ago)

I really, really howled at the Tupac thing last week. "IT MIGHT BE DOO DOO."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 17 July 2006 00:46 (nineteen years ago)

this one wasn't very good. a couple of laughs at best.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:00 (nineteen years ago)

The audience segment at the end was LAME.
I don't think I laughed once at the entire episode...if I did, I've already forgotten.

Marmot 4-Tay: what those guyz make music 4. (marmotwolof), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:08 (nineteen years ago)

Marmot OTM. I TiVoed it and plan to watch the last sketch again, but really, the whole pixie thing just seemed stretched thin rather than "offensive" or "discussion-provoking."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 17 July 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

so, uh, howard dean? topical.
These have been sitting around for quite awhile.

The discussion bit was so fucking lame. I feel for Dave b/c it's obvious why he didn't want these aired and it sucks they are going against his wishes. Of course I'm still watching 'cause I'm a Chappelle fiend.

The pixie thing could have been funny with some editing. Last night was slightly better than last week.

Ms. Misery TX (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

There was a completely inaudible line in the airplane segment of the pixie bit -- the kind of thing that Chappelle would've fixed if he'd chosen to let it air.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 17 July 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

what part? I think I've sat close enough to the tv enough times to have figured it out.

I just saw Dave on Inside the Actor's Studio (I didn't have cable when it came on the first time.) I love that man. Seriously. Anytime I hear him talk at length, (or when I saw him live), I'm just floored by how insightful, honest and intelligent he is. Damn, why can't our politicans be like him?

Ms. Misery TX (MissMiseryTX), Saturday, 22 July 2006 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

Tab Hunter loves to take his shirt off (kenan), Saturday, 22 July 2006 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

Ms. Misery, I think it was near the end of that segment. I had it TiVoed, played it back four or five times and it was *completely* inaudible. I'm guessing, though, that it was no "There's a puddin' stain on the back . . . IT MIGHT BE DOO DOO," so it doesn't really matter that much.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 22 July 2006 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

If the jokes he was telling were any indication of the rest of the set, he wasn't that funny and shoulda been booed.
