So most of you will know the drill:

Enter only two words in Google without quotation marks that leads to a search result of only one answer. The rule is it has to be proper words, not names or places and the search result can't be an online dictionary or a word list, it has to be a proper website.

Hurting, you touch a sore spot. Once upon a time the Ask-A-Drunkites set out to capture a menagerie of googlewhacks-to-be. IOW, word combinations that came up on Google as "no pages were found that matched your search criteria". These we posted on the old Greenspun forum by setting the words within paragraphs of rather fanciful prose. Then we sat down and waited for the googlewhackers to arrive.

Whosis, the googlewhack inventor, officially disqualified that page by reclassifying it as a "word list", claiming, for example, that a menu listing for "Carmelized Owlet Pinfeathers served on a bed of Farinaceous Glop" was utter nonsense and could not be understood as anything but a string of meaningless words. He also complained that this page had produced two dozen googlewhacks in less than a minute, as if that were a problem for him.

The man was a Philistine, apparently. No appreciation of art.

On a side note, the wordlist sites have just about crushed googlewhacking out of existance. Most contemporary whacks require the use of weird compund words, or a word stacked with allowable prefixes (un-, pre-, ante-) or suffixes (-some, -like, -ness) to create a legal, but rare, variant that the word listers forgot to include.

It's kind of like my brother playing the word "unrewaxed" in Scrabble once. We had to give it to him, the prat.

This is a lot harder than it used to be. According to an old list of these I kept, ECUMENICALLY MASOCHISTIC was a valid googlewhack in 2002. Now: 859 hits.

Even QUERULOUS ZAMBONI gets 110 nowadays. And CHIMICHANGA DUCHY gets 86. And KWAKIUTL NECROPSIES gets 27.
