A quick back story:

I am currently a secondthird year law student (I hate the term "rising"). The law job I have here in DC is a 20 - 25 hour a week thing in an office. Can be interesting, can be dead as a doornail. (The dead aspect will be good once school starts in a few weeks...I can study while here and get paid for it!) I am also barbacking (for those unfamiliar with the term, I am the all-purpose bitch of the bar...I change kegs, clean, drop off food orders at tables, clean some more, etc.). On Wednesdays and Thursdays, I work BOTH jobs, so I end up working around 15 hours those two days. I am tired.

So, with the temperature at or around 95, and it being terribly humid, what would you do for the three hours or so in between my air conditioned office job and my not air-conditioned office job? I was thinking nap. But I am open to other suggestions.

Also, for those looking to lose some weight: I HIGHLY recommend barbacking. Its like an 8 hour cardio session. I've lost around 20 pounds this summer.

i've done a little barbacking. there's a zen to it -- half the fun is trying not to slip on spilled drinks/melted ice.

Totally true. There is something quite meditative about it. You attempt to keep an even keel for the whole shift, b/c energy and stamina are at a premium. And people wouldn't come back if barbacks punched the assholes....which I am tempted to do with alarming regularity.

I was sort've thrown into barbacking a few times back in the kitchen bitch days, it is definitely exciting. I would've never expected it possible to stack so many pint glasses on top of one another until, there I was, parting a bar crowd like Moses did the red sea, with stacks of like 12 glasses in each hand, RUNNING.

Also: tai chi, in the shade.

With a 15 hour workday, I would go with the nap.

I love the Moses power of barbacking, too. I often find myself surprised that, upon my next visit to a bar in a non-occupational capacity, people don't just move. Damnit, I'm a BARBACK! MOVE!

Barbacking sounds so much like barebacking. You're using protection, right?

God, I wish I had the energy to come up with even moderately funny response to that. I am laughing conspicuously over here.
