I'm going with "tin cup" here. as usual, probably coz i just watched it. can't think of the plot of *every* sports film off the top of my head but i def admire the costner attitude more than the sandler or the dangerfield as far as golf films go.

Haha -- I just watched Tin Cup too! in a bar with no sound. (they had the Braves game on TBS then just left it on when Tin Cup came on.) Great flick. even without sound.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

haha damn i'm feeling twangs of indie-guilt now for picking tin cup and the beautiful loser cult of the perfect shot over caddyshack.

Secundus Clover (s_clover), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

Slapshot?

Field of Dreams?

kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

well Caddyshack is the greatest movie of all time, but who do you really *identify* with?

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

Lucas :(

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

Was point break really a sports movie though? Sure it had surfing and sky diving, but the true focus of the film was the bank-robbing and the explosions, and that one shot of titty at the bikers house.

phil jg, Friday, 5 August 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

well, that's why danny's there, no? but who wants to be THAT kid? the sweet awkward one with a good heart who always finally gets a chance to shine in every movie ever. nobody WANTS to be that kid. because that entails wanting to be awkward and shy and blahblah. whereas in tin cup the dude's cool even when he's a loser.

Secundus Clover (s_clover), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

North Dallas Forty.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:46 (twenty years ago)

if caddyshack is a sports movie then point break is a sports movie.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:47 (twenty years ago)

Gleaming the Cube then

Seuss, Friday, 5 August 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

(given the Tin Cup love, I'm surprised no one's mentioned Bull Durham yet.

Or Slap Shot.

Or Kingpin.)

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

oh i guess we all forgot that final climactic sequence in point break where keanu wins the big surf-off and gets the girl from the cool rich surfer kid who's really an asshole.

Secundus Clover (s_clover), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

and the rich surfer kid goes "wh-wh-what?! this can't be happening! this is OUTRAGEOUS!" and then keanu punches him out!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 6 August 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

As far as specific characters go in the Bad News Bears, I wish I could say Kelly Leak or Tanner, but the real answer is probably Ogilvie or maybe Rudy Stein.
