Square Enix look set to end era of Sony-only games for next-gen

Square Enix, the makers of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest, look set to end their exclusive deal with Sony, preferring to produce their games for Xbox 360, Revolution and PS3.

Square Enix president Yoichi Wada has hinted that since the next round of the console war won't be dominated by one machine, his company need to sell their titles on as many formats as possible.

Speaking to Japanese newspaper Mainichi Daily News, he said: "The market for next generation game consoles will be divided into 'high end' and 'low end' according to the wishes of users, so rather than one type of hardware surging ahead, the share will be divided between various game consoles."

Square had previously announced that Final Fantasy XI will appear on Xbox 360, but the intention to publish their hugely popular RPGs on all the next-gen consoles is a major surprise for fans and a huge boost for Nintendo and Microsoft.

Final Fantasy XI is already out on PC and should appear on Xbox 360 and PS2 later this year

I dunno; can the Xbox360 ever possibly contain an over-long narrative featuring a demure brunette and a feisty scoundrel? How much will Chocobos have to fight in the upcoming Revolution?

Fuck Final Fantasy anyway. What's more exciting to me is the rumour that a Kid Icarus game is in development for Revolution! The only Nintendo franchise that needs an update now is Startropics.

is there going to be a game in final fantasy this time? or just a really well-done cgi movie that makes you push the play button every 10 minutes.
