Self-Medication

Does anyone else here think it's complete bullshit that you have to go through so much crap just to get some pills? If you are in pain after falling into a vat of boiling lead or something, shouldn't you be able to buy Xtra-Strength Dilaudid over the counter right away? (Especially when you ask for some painkillers and they have that smug smile, "Oh, I don't think you'll be needing them, just take a deep breath", etc) Or if you need to get that Prozac or Valium, why the hell shouldn't you be able to buy it yourself? Instead of having to wait in the clinic with all the dregs(while YOU'VE had to waste yet another day off from work) for two hours in order for some NHS trainee to see you for the 30 seconds it takes to write out the fucking prescription? I am really pissed off about this, it's a violation of basic freedoms, as well as a fucking racket on somebody's part!

Oh, and as for the "What about the 1 in 1000 people who might suffer side effects" - boo fuckin' hoo, life isn't fair.

See, I need something for 'repetitive posting syndrome' and they won't give it to me!

I want some valium! How do I get some? What symptoms do I need I wonder.

You seem to be rather tense this afternoon, Dave. Why don't you go and have a lie-down?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 18 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Um, DaveQ, have you noticed that you live in a society where people are mostly pretty stupid and not at all capable of taking responsibility for themselves? That might give you some clues as to why the sorts of drugs you mention, which are mostly very addictive and which really do fuck with your body and your mind, are not readily available.

If you are really that stressed or that much in pain then stopping doing/preventing whatever it is that is stressing you/causing the pain is a much better option. And if you don't do this then you should SUFFER so that you learn not to be such a TOOL in the future.

'you live in a society where people are mostly pretty stupid and not at all capable of taking responsibility for themselves'

That's part of the reason I need all these drugs. Also, what's wrong with people being addicted to stuff? As long as you've got free access to stuff, most of the stress of addiction disappears, as it's about people worrying about running out of things and having to go through ridiculous lengths to get it. Plus, why do we need so many weak people in the world when we can eliminate them through side effects?

This man could turn an honest penny writing for the Daily Mail any time!

Mission for 2002: get Paul Johnson and Simon Heffer to start posting here.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 18 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What, the Mail advocates unlimited access to dangerous drugs now?

dave q, Tuesday, 18 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yep, Paul Dacre reckons libertarianism's the way ahead now.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 18 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)
