Hi, Im Cico/Ed and I am NEW!.

There were a heap of other introduction threads but I created a new one cause they were all too big or something.

So if you are NEW! like me or just feel neglected tell us about yourselves.

Oh yeah, I'm tall, a ballad lover - the usual.

Cico (Cico), Monday, 8 August 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

what kind of ballads? monster ballads?

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 8 August 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

Actually there is quite a good Harry Monster ballad thing called" I can't help it" or something, but its quite depressing. Generally I like ballads about more mundane things - like giants.

Cico (Cico), Monday, 8 August 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

no, monster ballads, like damn yankees, warrant, mr. big

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 8 August 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

ahhh - I see - I have been singing Jon Bon Jovi - Blaze of Glory a bit lately - does that count?

Cico (Cico), Monday, 8 August 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

Hi. I'm Chris. Don't you feel like you know so much about me?

Tape Store (Tape Store), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:46 (twenty years ago)

Hullo to them new peoples.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

I have not introduced introduce, so it is here the opportune no? Of nomenclature mine it is Comstock Carabinieri, and all you needs to know is that it is I Love Music should bes my middle name provided that the music in question is melodic. I am not interest in inferior musics, for exempler hip hop, Soul and Blue Gum, as it is amelodic and rhtyhms dominant, but proper superior melodics musics, for example the Crowding Houses, Jelly and the Fishes, the Wannabees and Stomu Yamashta featuring Stevi Winwood with Michael Shreve. I have been know to do the conga in discotheque moderns when I have a little too much Ribenas, no? :)

Comstock Carabineri (nostudium), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 05:09 (twenty years ago)

Hello, just thought I'd introduce myself as well. Hey everyone! I'm actually, new to the whole discussion board thing. Anyway, I've been getting into some different music lately, and thought this might be interesting. Some of my fav bands right now: Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, The Music, Cake, Hot Hot Heat, Starsailor, Doves.

I'm a big music nerd, and I needed a place where I could voice my opinions. Hopefully, this can be that place.

James Bartlet, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 06:10 (twenty years ago)

"Stevi Winwood"

Related to Steve by any chance? ;-))))))

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 06:13 (twenty years ago)

It is all too easy to confuse Stevi Winwood with the stylish, sorcerous songstress Stevi Nix.

Comstock Carabineri (nostudium), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

I cannot sing so well, but I can hear.

bardo bardot, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 06:28 (twenty years ago)

If we had rankings like some other boards, mine would be something like 'Grizzeled old fixture'. I love music, but think talking about it, especially at length is a little pointless. It may be noticed that I am somewhat of a beligerant Atheist and lefty political disputant. Musically i range from techno to jazz, ith big ins into bluegrass and proper folk ('Are you going to Scarborough Fair?', 'No, fuck off you wet hippy')

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Also, Ed, you write about food very well and you are always helpful with people's questions about macs.

estela (estela), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

Yes! I'm not helpful at all. I try to be as friendly as possible here, that's about it. ;-)

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

I'm Tuomas and words can't convey me. But what am I doing here then?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

hi tuomas!! welcome

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

Thank you! It seems like I've finally found a forum where people want to talk about important stuff like music and history and the history of music instead of ass sex. I think I'll like it here.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

why can't we talk about both? the musical history of ass sex? i see a new thread appearing. and possibly a fantastic piece of musical theatre. i'll give ben elton a call.

michael grant (michael digby grant), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

You mean "Le Petomane", right? I wonder if he needed outside help to tune up his instrument, or whether he could do that by the strength of his own arm...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

Hi. I live in Chicago and I'm a law student and I'm married to another dude on this board and I've known about this board forever but only recently started posting. Likes: films, the labor movement, Chicago ILXors, cats, beer, the new work out mix I just made. Dislikes: GWBush, driving, watching what I eat, and spinach. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Likes: films, the labor movement, Chicago ILXors

So you don't like non-Chigago ILXors?

I always feel neglected, but that's just because I'm a depressive self-hating narcissist.

Introduction: I live in The Grim Up North. In fact, my home town and my ex-boyfriend's home town are adjacent in the lyrics of It's Grim Up North. I have a reputation for being a bit kinky, for self-hatred (see above), paranoia, geekery and tweeness. The latter is probably because I reached ILX from Sinister. The things I am most proud of include: having had sex with exactly equal numbers of men and women. Similarly, I'm proud of being equally interested in science and facts, and in the esoteric* and paranormal. Religion: the best phrase to describe me is agnostic pagan. I have met lots of ILXors in real life, and with most am never sure what represents them better: the personality you meet face-to-face or the personality you see online.

* in the sense of: forteana, and the mysterious and occult.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

I usually don't offer this as an introduction but I probably should: I was a serious violinist for a long time and that experience still sets the parameters of how I listen to whatever disparate things I've evolved into liking since then.

Hi. I'm another Chicago resident. Things I actively like: cooking, living in a fantasy world of my own making, antiquated books about teenagers, murder ballads, lots of other music, my husband and two dogs , feeding people, skirts, dancing, going for walks in new places, finding things in the trash. Things I actively dislike: mindless office work, playing competitive sports, religious proselytizing, being told to calm down or shut up.

I'm glad to be here, pleased to meet you all and ready to rhumba/rumble.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I forgot to add something in the "things I actively like" section: linguistics. Specifically, phonetics/phonology. (Although I'm hardly an expert, I'm working on it.)

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

how do new people land here?
i have always wondered this...

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Apart from via Sinister, you mean?

(are you the most recent ex-Sinisterine to arrive? It's not like that's been a very active place for the past couple of years)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

how do new people land here?

Google, friends recommendations, etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

yes

(probably. i was just sticking to the glasgow board to keep tabs on me peeps, until one day i made the dangerous decision to DIVERSIFY!)

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

to land here, I find that you need only to
turn off your mind,
relax and float downstream,

bardo bardot, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

holy crap, those are cute.

I'm Robyn. I've been here for a while but don't post a lot. Today I am in a good mood, with a lot of laughing. I live in Montreal. I like a lot of things and can be convinced to like other things. However, I have a few rational dislikes and several irrational dislikes. I'm sure that soon I will go back to lurking.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Do not return to lurking, Robyn, you are cool. But do finish up that thesis of yours.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Hullo. My real name is Eric, but my nom-de-interweb is Stewart Downes (I love you Graeme Downes!). I live in the thriving metropolis of Milford CT, but I am looking to get out sometime soon. But, then again, isn't everyone?

I have lurked for many thousands of years, but only recently have I started posting, however intermittently. I am an account receivable represtative. It is as fun as it sounds. I am, like this entire board, something of a recovering indie-rocker, I guess. Lately I have been getting into Dylan and XTC. I just saw 2046 which makes me think I might dig the wong-kar wai action.

I am, as noted elsewhere, thinking seriously about attending library science school because I want to be like Ned Raggett only with a master's degree.

stewart downes (sdownes), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

aw, thanks Ned. I just got an RAship doing research that overlaps with my thesis research, so rah! for that. Two birds, one stone and such. also: money! amazing.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

I seem to have picked up the ILX habit again, so I might as well introduce myself here finally. Um, hi! I'm a long-time semi-lurker on ILM and ILE (and a little bit more of a regular poster on ILC). I found my way to these boards originally in early 2003 after Simon Reynolds mentioned ILM on his blog (I'd read his book about the history of electronic dance music and had just stumbled upon his webpages in a quest for more of his writing at the time). I avoided reading ILE for a while after that because it seemed like a private conversation for the most part, but somehow I wound up lurking here eventually as well. I guess I tend to come and go depending on how stupid I feel for blowing actual free time here (I've never had a job that would allow me to browse the internet while getting paid). I don't really post much, but I suppose it's rude as well as pointless to post anything here at all when no one knows who I am.

So, about me: I'm male and 27, a perpetual undergrad student and underachiever still living in my hometown (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA). I should finally be finishing up my degree (BA in Philosophy) by the end of this year. After that, I'm thinking about exploring the wonderful world of library science, but I'm not sure about that yet, as that's pretty much of a stopgap measure, even though I do feel an affinity for archiving things. I don't think I'm ever going to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. Once upon a time I thought I might like to do something "important", but now I have no idea what "importance" might entail. Hmm, what else. I'm an extrovert afraid to be anything but an introvert. I'm an atheist who frequently engages in flights of irrational thinking. I have a tendency to desire expertise on the subjects that interest me, but at the same time I am fatally incurious about things of real importance and give up in my efforts far too easily. I hate to be surprised but I get bored easily. I get carried away by my preoccupation with pop culture, even though I'm an individualist who'd really rather be thinking about more important things most of the time. I know what made Socrates wise, but I try to be a smartypants too much of the time anyway. I've let fear keep me from the things I really want in life. I hate to commit to decisions, even though I equally hate the life I live as a result of my indecisiveness. I've been described by the same people as both a total idiot and as the smartest person they know (but I think the truth lies more with the former).

There's probably more to say, but I've run out of steam. I suppose I've already said too much. Hi, anyway.

Chris F. (servoret), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

And how do?

aw, thanks Ned. I just got an RAship doing research that overlaps with my thesis research, so rah! for that. Two birds, one stone and such. also: money! amazing.

:-D Always handy!

Stewart's goal is both laudable and strange.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

Hi. I'm Andrew. I don't post much but am well known for my periodical shirtless photos.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

You suave man you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

Hi ILx. I've lurked so long I apologize if I'm overly familiar with some of you. This's not my real name, cuz until I'm famous I'm candid.

JKex (JKex), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

No need to apologize and welcome...
