dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

it's just the Randster having some fun.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

She's some unsigned, mentally-ill singer-songwriter who thinks the record industry and everyone else is against her and whose delusions of grandeur made her try to sell her albums online for $10000 each or something.

I may have the details wrong. I haven't really been paying that much attention.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

She's also kind of a fox, but men don't like her because they fear "talent."

Outsider Enter Port City (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

She appears to think Google is run by a conspiracy which ensures only negative comments about her come up in searches.

She's not crazy: you are crazy. That's why she's changing her name.

She is not a popist.

Flyboy (Flyboy), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 11 August 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

i can't believe she's gone untreated for like 2 years now.

kingfish completely hatstand (Kingfish), Thursday, 11 August 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

does she post here? (Is that a stupid question?)

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

no, never

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

Now can someone explain it in a condescending form?

Captain Sleep (Captain Sleep), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

OK, here we go.

She caused imfamy to be associated with her by boldly stating that all signed artists had no talent and no beauty, compared to her. Also, for selling her own CDs (that don´t exist as such) for $1000 per volume (of which there are four)

She went round various sites that have CDs for sale and allow reviews to be posted online, and comparing Aanis Morisette etc, in disparaging terms, and bigging herself up.

At first glance, it seemed to be someone with an inflamed sence of her own importance. now, it seems its someone that goes through troughs of paranoia - schizo - and deeply with it.

I´ve had a number of emails from her, from the furiously abuive (the first one) to the warmer kind (and one I can only assume was mildly fliratious). About a month ago, she posted on this board thanking folk for the support. now, I guess she´s down. Mostly because her web page is down again (cause or effect? Who knows)

All this, but the odd thing is that she actually is not a talentless berk. Or an ugly old dog. She actually is good looking and can play/perform to a reasonably high degree. Whether she has done any of this recently is a moot point.

I have no idea how old she is. Her pics suggest mid twenties, but they could be up to 10 years old by some of the things she´s said previously.

As I say, the music she has done varies in quality on the ´finish´.

There is a "Laugh I nearly bought one" thread on her tapes that I wrote, check that for more inf.

That´s about it I think.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:26 (twenty years ago)

It cost me two euros to type that lot in!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

I think I understand where she's coming from.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

She is, if she is genuine, not well, isnt she? I have to say I am concerned, like I was about Aaron. Watching people trainwreck in public like this is kind of not good.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Tell me about it.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

Laugh, I nearly bought one : The Marrissa Marchant tapes...

Like I say, when she´s ´well´ she seems quite a nice person. When she´s not, she seems to go arund attacking all the people she likes! This is not a good thing.

i think she's a bit older. early-mid 30's.

kingfish completely hatstand (Kingfish), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:42 (twenty years ago)

From the way you described it, it sounds like she's bipolar - going from being nice to extremely aggressive and paranoid fits the bill exactly. The same happened with AaronHz too.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 11 August 2005 05:58 (twenty years ago)

I've dealt with bipolarity in real life, and it's quite scary, but it's also kinda easier, because it usually targets only the people who know the bipolar person, and who therefore (hopefully) know what's going on. Whereas it seems like the net is the worst place for a bipolar person to interact with other folks, because you can get all sorts of answers from people who don't or care about your condition, and that surely isn't helpful to anyone.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:03 (twenty years ago)

I've only dealt with bipolarity on the internet.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:10 (twenty years ago)

Sometims I think its all I ever deal with on the internet ;P

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:11 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:18 (twenty years ago)

looks like I need to run out to the store and get you some more insults.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 11 August 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

aaanyway. Lots of friendly stuff towards Marissa.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 August 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

I dunno. It´s all gone full circle, really.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 August 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 11 August 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

Re Melissa: if she's mentally ill, isn't it sort of evil to gang-taunt her? If she isn't mentally ill, isn't it sort of evil to call her mentally ill?

Re her almost-good-enough-ness: There's a short story by Charles Baxter (I can't think of the title offhand, but can look it up later if anyone cares) that features a female character who truly reminds me of Marissa (except for the megalomania). In the final finding, she comes across as sympathetic, and so, in the final finding, might Marissa (though surely not in the way she hopes). Some of the participants in these cyber-beatings may come to feel funny about it all in years to come. The phenomena of failure and being not quite good enough work like a low-grade fever on the psyche. The thing is, you don't have to be wholly delusional ("How do you think you did" "Not...too...shabby!!!") to deceive yourself about whether you possess the last, crucial 5%. And of course unrecognized genius does exist, like an unclaimed lottery prize, on the periphery of all our unrealized ambitions.

M. V. (M.V.), Thursday, 11 August 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

M Grout & MV seem pretty close to being otm to me. I have a few mp3s of her songs, which I listen to from time, & which I like quite a bit. I've seen her pop up on other boards from time to time, and she does seem to get a similar snarky cluster-fuck type response, kind of like the worst of the internet, really.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 11 August 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

If she is or isn't mentally ill, isn't it sort of evil to call her a megalomaniac?
xp

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 11 August 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

Yes. Probably so. I apologize.

M. V. (M.V.), Thursday, 11 August 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Also for calling her Melissa.

M. V. (M.V.), Thursday, 11 August 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

The only things you need to know about her are:
You never her.
Her baby does NOT take the morning train.
Pray for her mental health.

Draw Tipsy, ya hack. (dave225.3), Thursday, 11 August 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)
