should be removed from power for the good of the Iraqi people. So we send some of our jerky jock-type soldiers over there to blow him up. So what?"

One thing I wonder about - you hear this finger-wagging re "Saddam & Taliban are USA creations". Well then, doesn't it follow that maybe they (Saddam & Taliban etc) should be held accountable for being disloyal and trying to double-cross their benefactors all the time, instead of blaming the US for cultivating these associations? If the CIA really does own their asses then I see no reason not to kill them on principle if they step out of line.

Maybe the CIA should be a bit more careful when they create people in the first place.

Saddam Hussein is not a creation of the CIA, however. Although his rise to power was at points assisted by them, he would have come to power anyway. He was a US ally for much of the 1980s, but that's not the same as seeing him as some kind of creature of the Americans.

Are you currently working in the White House Mike?

The comma and lack of second " in the thread title make it look like Saddam Hussein is Hanle y Deus's nom de guerre.

"And me? You can call me...SADDAM HUSSEIN!"

I think the whole threat of US intervention deal is just to scare Saddam into doing not a whole lot -- action elsewhere can imply action there without actually having to do anything, and I rather doubt the US gov't wants to spend *that* much time, effort, money, blood, etc. subduing the whole country. We'll see.

The US govt can look big and threatening, and Saddam can hold onto power, looking like he's resisting the great Satan, and both their egos are satisfied.

Or will the Bush baby try to outdo his Bush daddy?
