oooh yeah, the japanese rice crackers with seaweed and chili and peanuts, mmm. also jacob's cream crackers with houmous or mushroom paté. or water biscuits, or matzos.

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

cornish wafers with Mushroom Tartex and a slice of tomato = bloody nice. also with butter and cherry jam.

chris, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

cheddar-flavored nips, anyone?

phil, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Crackers are made for the wonder that is cheese and nothing else. It disgusts me to read of you infidels befouling the divine surface of the cracker with unclean substances such as Tartex.

RickyT, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

tartex = yum, as any fule kno!

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It may well be yum, but that is just Satan's way of tempting you. Resist the horned one's unclean spreads and rejoice in the cheese of The Lord.

RickyT, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*gag*

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What on EARTH is Tartex? It sounds like a gritty type of plastic. I love Matzoh crackers, Jacobs crackers, those odd spicy ones that come in "biscuits for cheese" selections but nowhere else, and Japanese rice crackers mmm the wasabi ones are FLAVOURSOME. Mmmm I want some cheese and crackers for lunch now.

Sarah, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Also some paté - but that should REALLY go on TOAST.

Sarah, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

tartex is tasty vegan pate made from yeast or tofu (the tofu one is a bit grim but the yeast one is YUMSOME and nb. is nothing at all like Marmite). it comes in various flavours of which the mushroom is superior!

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just re-discovered it after seeing it in a health food shop, I'd forgotten how damn nice and mushroomy it was. Really good eating, I'm gonna stay veggie with an attitude like that aren't I?

chris, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yaaaayyyy!!!! do the veggie dance!

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What on EARTH is Tartex?
Tampax for tarts.

helenfordsdale, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"But I haven't got any sweets!"

Trevor, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that ad makes me stutter with rage.

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Doesn't it just. I watched it with horror last night, and the worst adverts thread sprang immediately to mind.

Trevor, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This thread is directly responsible for making me go to Tesco and buy Savoury Bite Matzo Crackers and some Jacobs Cream Crackers. And whilst I was there we decided to buy a CAN of red wine (CLASSY!) each and drink it on a BENCH before going back to the office hooray!!!

$4R4h, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh my GOD Sainsbury's just over the road and 7 minutes left of lunchtime! do i scoot over and avail myself of a gin and tonic in a can? OF COURSE I DO - see you later chaps! Sarah you evil instigator you :D

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

HOOOORAY!!!! What is also good is PIMMS in a can! Before visiting of LADYFEST OXFORD I partook of a can of PIMMS and a can of GIN with TONIC on the old Oxford Tube... which was nice. Num Num. More drinking exploits please!!

Sarah, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

HO! i return from Sainsbury's clutching said can of G&T and a packet of mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm breadsticks. with sesame. it was a close run thing between that and oatcakes, but sesame goodness won out!

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

grrrr crap irish supermarkets. i cant even find vatsky anymore.

Ronan, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I really want to try this 'vatsky' of which you speak. I can imagine a night out with Ronan to be very entertaining, especially if it involves Vatsky wodka. Katie, whot no matzos??? I R now haffing made a mess of my desk with cracker crumbs and cheese, aaah. But in my wine filled daze it is very satisfying.

HEY I bought TAHINI PASTE and tonight I am going to MAKE HUMMUS.

Sarah, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Japanese rice crackers. NUM.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no matzos because they are large and my boss always gives me the Spanish Inquisition if she sees me eating anything remotely out of the ordinary, and i can't take it today. especially since i eat odd things for lunch most days and have to DEAL with her constant questioning, even when i have a mouthful of avocado/lentil soup/whatever. HOWEVER the g&t is now sitting in a glass here disguised as Sprite, so i am getting nicely tipsy hurrah!

katie, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

moskova is the new vatsky apparently. so my friend tells me.

Ronan, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well there's been a trail of people through to my office to investigate my Savoury Bite Matzo crackers so I know what you mean about getting the INQUISTION. Then again In The Office Of Boredom eating habits become the most talked about thing since How Much The Boss Mings.

Sarah, Wednesday, 19 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

cheddar-flavored nips, anyone?

Good Lord, man. Who have you been dating?

black pepper oatcakes are the only biscuit that can deal with being spread with gorgonzola without falling to crumbly bits

What's the verdict on pub cheese? I'm sort of into it right now, on crackers. I have a tiny knife that seems like it was invented just for pub cheese.
