Kind of under your "wing"? Get someone to push on it.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

exactly!! push on the "wing" or under it?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

(thank you!)

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Under it, where the muscle is. Lube it up with oil, lay on your stomach, and put your arm under your midriff. Have somebody sit on your butt and push on/rub that shit until it stops hurting so bad. It might puff up and turn red, warning.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

ugh, welcome to my world!!!

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

nabiscothingy, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

What about your regular shoulderblade? (How does one fuck with a shoulderblade anyway?)

The Ghost of I GOT THAT FROM STALEJOKES.COM (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

if you have to ask

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

I am so happy that somebody wrote about this! I am in such chronic pain form the desk/computer keyboard/mouse and phone that it feels almost on fire and like someone is sticking a white hot poker in my "wing area" pain all the way down the neck and arm too. It's gon on for WEEKS without relief. Are there any other yoga exercises to try as well - pix please. I have had some body put their elbow on it and rub and it does swell up and get red but it gives some temporary relief. I guess this is a common ailment?

Wiggy (Wiggy), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

if you cannot find a friend, lying with a tennis ball under your spine can sometimes pop things into place. You have to really relax though. Go to a chiropractor if you have time.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

"That feels so good... Uhn, use your shoulderblade!"
"... Wha?"
"C'mon, just stick it in there. Give me that shoulderblade! C'MON!"
"... I'm going home now."
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO! I NEED HOT MONKEY SHOULDERBLADE ACTION NOW, YOU SAUCY BITCH!"
"Don't call me, okay?"
"*sigh* Fine. Say hi to Mom for me."
"Whatever."

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

The morning of my flight, I have booked a hot tub and then I'm going to do yoga!

Are there any other yoga exercises to try as well - pix please.

This is a deep and effective stretch. But if you're already in spasm (i.e., pain) go slowly. Easy does it.

1. Standing or seated, cross your elbows in front of your chest. The elbow that goes on top will be the one that gets the stretch.

2. Raise your forearms to vertical and lock your palms as shown in the image below.

3. SLOWLY raise your elbows as high and as far forward as is comfortable. Elbows at eye level is a good goal.

Keep your abs engaged so as not to cheat by curling your chest up. Cheating defeats the stretch and puts pressure on your lower back.

This pic shows the arm positioning pretty nicely. Don't worry about the legs - that's something else. Bonus points if you can rock the workout gear our computer-generated model is wearing.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

it really is the worst day... i almost cancelled my trip today for other reasons :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

thanks roger. 3rd time was the charm. Looks like a good one. s1ocki, wots wrong? beside the hurting shoulder I mean. Is your trip for fun or biz? If it's biz maybe you can cancel/postpone. If it's for fun, maybe it will help to get away from the computer and such and rest the shoulder?

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

it's for fun... uh well i dont' want to make this thread a real big bummer but this afternoon i found out an old friend died last night. so i have been pretty down.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

oh, that's sad. I'm so sorry. Then you do really need a rest. can you arrange for a massage at your destination in additon to the hot tub and yoga pre-flight?

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

i heard if you ask for an "argentinean massage" you could get your throat cut!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

well, roxymuzak just qualified herself for the ilx out of context thread

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

oh, that's not good. Not good at all. We certainly don't want that kind. Well, perhaps then just the Swedish version at a nice hotel?

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

Also at airports they sometimes sell those bean-filled neck rest things. I think they can be heated in the microwave for added relief. Maybe the flt attendant would heat it for you in the plane?

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:34 (twenty years ago)

aw man, I'm sorry about your friend, slocki.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

I've had this problem for about 8 years.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 25 August 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

That's rough abt your homie, Slocks, peace be with you. I'll be mailing you soon abt PopMTL, and hope to be seeing you shortly.

As for the thread question, try ONE one-arm pushup with your hand at the same lateral point at yr shoulder, you'd be surprised how much one one-arm will unfuck a knotted shoulder/back.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Thursday, 25 August 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

Hey Hurting, so what's the relief and or diagnosis AND does it eva' stop HURTING?!? or, is this from whence the handle comes from?

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 25 August 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

thanks guys!!

i'm tempted to try the one-arm pushup but with my luck i can just imagine how badly it'll fuck me up!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

well, roxymuzak just qualified herself for the ilx out of context thread

Agh, I knew it!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 25 August 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

it's a little better today.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Hope you're doing okay.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

thanks adam!! i'm feeling better today, though i may just be blocking stuff out. i decided to go to buenos aires.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

ten months pass...
OWWW

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

Do you have to go on a plane tomorrow?

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 00:56 (nineteen years ago)

no but i was in a car all day :(

god... that day last year was fucking hellish.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 00:56 (nineteen years ago)

ice it, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, repeat

kingfish du lac (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 00:57 (nineteen years ago)

i can't reach it!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 00:59 (nineteen years ago)

Do you have a pull that's not healing or somesuch?

I will commence to drop a knowledge bomb. (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:00 (nineteen years ago)

no the hilarious ("hilarious") thing is this time it's the OTHER shoulder.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

I've been suffering with this now for over 12 months :( It started as pain in my left shoulder/side of neck, and a lot of the time now it radiates right down to my elbow and into the back wing muscle like slocki sez.

Now on top of all that (or maybe this is the cause of it?) I have TMJD - jaw locking/popping/pain so bad I've had days where I cannot chew or open my mouth properly, and it has spazms. Just on the left side.

I think I need to see both a dentist and an osteopath. Ive taken so many painkillers my stomach's a complete mess.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

ISTR Adam crankypants said he had this ish and fixed it with yoga and a dental splint, but I forget now.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:11 (nineteen years ago)

Do you sit with both feet flat on the floor, pointing straight ahead? I had similar problems and that solved it!

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:12 (nineteen years ago)

i don't, but i'll try!

i have tmj disorder too trayce!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:17 (nineteen years ago)

Do you guys with back/neck/shoulder problems sleep on good mattresses, or are they old and sprung?

I will commence to drop a knowledge bomb. (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:22 (nineteen years ago)

I sleep on pine branches and dried mud

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:23 (nineteen years ago)

slocki maybe its the TMJ that is hurtin' up our shoulders, then!

I am going to find a really good dentist or orthodontist soon. I can't leave this alone much longer, it just keeps getting worse, and because when Im stressed I clench my teeth, it wont ever get better :(I'm scared I'll end up like that Simpsons episode where Cheif Wiggum opened his mouth too wide to eat the hoagie and locked up his jaw!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

Have you tried the foot thing, Trayce?

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno if it'll help but it's weird, once I started sitting right the fistula of death that my neck and shoulders had become just pleasantly dissipated

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

The foot thing? you mean that thing upthread with the twisty arm yoga stretch? I havent tried that properly but I might once I get home.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

Oh dur, I didnt read upthread proper.

I cant sit like that in my work chair :( Im short - my feet dont sit flat on the ground all that well and let me reach this desk the right way. This chair is also fucked. And no, I cant get anything done about it :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:40 (nineteen years ago)

That said I do need to try and sit better, I have a bad habit of leaning on my left arm when I sit and read the PC :/

My bed is a good bed, and my pillow.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 01:41 (nineteen years ago)

it's really hard to sit properly! i'm always crossing my legs and slouching and futzing around.

trayce i don't think it's the tmj, which i've lived with for a long time and which i can generally ascertain the symptoms of. but you never know with maxillofacial pain!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 02:18 (nineteen years ago)

I'm always slouching and futzing too! Perhaps that is our undoing!

I shall now be paranoid all day and try to sit up straight for teacher, and stop clenching my teeth!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 02:27 (nineteen years ago)

I keep crossing my ankles and then going "whoops" and putting my feet down.

Shits HARD. I cant undo 35 years of slouchy goodness :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 04:31 (nineteen years ago)

i know!

i'm feeling lots better today though.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

Huzzah!

I'm ok today too, but it comes and goes at random (seemingly) for me.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)
