National Moving Day

a generic thread for talking about moving on or around Sept 1.

i'm moving to a place about two miles away. I'm moving in with my girlfriend. we dont have a lot of things, so it's been relitively easy, especially considering the fact that she totally skipped town to go to Kenya for the duration.

I've also managed to pick up quite a few nice items of furniture and art off local sidewalks. our new place is quite a bit nicer than any of our older ones, plus it affords us plenty of privacy in which to get busy. it's pretty sweet.

I just moved, and it's true, EVERYone moves for Sept. 1st.

This was the first move where I've gotten my full damage deposit back. Even on my fucked ankle it went smooth cuz I did it over three days. Sold all my big furniture, and ninja-rigged my queensize mattress to my ski rack - NO MOVERS. I'm quite proud of myself cuz usually moving days for me have been....emotional.

I'm gping flat/house hunting today in London 'cos I start working there from 12th Sept.

Man, am I stressed by the whole enterprise. I'm probably going to agree for the first semi-decent place I see, even if its slightly overpriced.

I've heard about this crazy Quebecois moving day thing. Insanity!

I saw a documentary about Moving Day once, it featured a hilariously inept removal man who broke half a van full of somebody's belongings.

I am hoping to move a little later than Septmeber 1st.

Don't rush it, Tannenbaum. That's my advice.

Moving Saturday 9-3, closing on the sale of my condo on Thursday 9-8. Still trying to find a house.

I move on Saturday. I just gave away a big load of hardware I no longer want on eBay, including my old computer with hard disk removed, for nowt, because I haven't got time to flog it for just a few quid and can't take it with me.

Montreal's moving day is actually July 1, I believe... And it's so hot then, too. Mad. Here's more: http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/Media_Target/HotTopics/EN/HTML/181_EN.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1

Good luck, all you movers! I wish I were moving. I'm sick of being in the same place.

I too am moving on Saturday, and am excited about having to drive a Transit van. Unfotunately I didn't throw any junk away when packing, and now have run out of boxes, and resent paying money for them.

I sympathise with Tannenbaum Schmidt - finding a decent flat in London in September is disproportionately stressful.

Want to move want to move want to move want to move...

Ugh, September moves are hell! I don't plan it, but I usually find myself moving on or around 1st July. 3 of my past 5 moves have been at that time of year. I like being able to move when the college students are not around!

I'm moving to New York in two days, and three quarters of my worldly possessions are sitting in my garage right now. The other half is scattered in nooks and crannies around my childhood home. There's no way I won't forget something no matter how hard I try so I should just accept that now.

I hate moving so much. During college, I moved seven times and it was always death. I haven't stayed in one place longer than a year since I lived in high school.

I'm really excited, though. After the painful physical labor portion of the process, I'm sure it'll be really fun to set up a new apartment and live in a completely different place. Also, moving forces me to streamline all the useless crap I otherwise refuse to throw away.

I moved yesterday too! It was far less painful than anticipated (and my moving helpers were awesome.) My muscles ache today, and I need more coffee or more sleep plus a massage and probably some booze. Yeah, July 1 is sort of official Montreal moving day, but Sept 1 is pretty crazy. At least Montrealers are used to people double parking on major roads, so no one even honked at the giant truck I parked in the middle of St. Laurent for over an hour yesterday...
