Because I'm gonna, and I'm slightly perturbed by the lack of love for LINE BREAKS. What gives? Do you have a Wiki?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

Huh? What's a Wiki? Are you referring to Wikipedia?

nathalie's pocket revolution (stevie nixed), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

Wikipedia on wikis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ah okay. Should have looked on the wikipedia site immediately.

My fave word of the day: WikiWikiWeb

nathalie's pocket revolution (stevie nixed), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

A wiki about what? I don't have a wiki. I think ILX could (have) come up with a pretty great wiki. I also think AMG should reformat as a Wiki, but that looks like a pipedream from here.

Explain "lack of love for line breaks."

Maybe we could have a relationships + addictions wiki based on LoggedOut's life problems.

Wikis I have seen and enjoyed:

Ultranomicon

Wikiquote

Online Journalism Review Wiki

the Star Alliance Blizzard Wiki

Where the hell does "wiki" come from?

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

The name is based on the Hawaiian term wiki wiki, meaning "quick" or "informal".

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

My Wiki: I was trying to think of a way I could easily work on poems - write a draft, make changes, keep & track changes, easily compare & contrast versions & such without Alt-Tabbing between text editor windows or shuffling through reams of paper & whatnot. And maybe self-promote / self-aggrandize a smidge. Dunno if a Wiki will work, but what the hell.

Wiki on DON'T USE LINE BREAKS. (MediaWiki allows for line break HTML tags, so they don't outlaw them outright. Pain in the ass, tho. Movable Type & WordPress spoiled my dead ass.)

HOLY CRAP WIKIQUOTE! Thanks, Tom!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

could we do one on plops or maybe soggsys or soggsy plops on line breks

plops, Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

Oh. I'm line break agnostic. I can see how writing poetry would make it annoying, but between Slashdot, ILX, Blogger, writing real actual HTML for documents at work &c., I have found my situational awareness re: when to use BR and P vice carriage returns appropriately is now completely unconscious.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

The Game Programming Wiki

The Wiktionary

Community Breast Health Project Wiki

The Star Wars Wiki which is part of Wikicities which I never knew about until today (like most of these sites actually, holy shit)

Wikibooks, free textbooks!!

The New PR Wiki

InfoAnarchy Wiki

the HOMESTAR RUNNER Wiki

Hacknot's article on wikis being fucked up

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

There's also tolkien wikis and literary wikis and a history of telecommunications wiki and several wikis for support and developer feedback on commercial or open-source wiki-building software packages, and buddhism wikis and probably jesus wikis &c. but they looked crap so I didn't link them. Google does wonders.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

the design patterns wiki was a useful resource for me ages ago.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

There's like 5 diff design patterns wikis now. At least one of them apparently is run by MSDN. Clusterfuck.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

I have a wiki: http://wizardishungry.com/wiki/

Fushigina Blobby: Blobania no Kiki (ex machina), Thursday, 1 September 2005 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

I'm kind of surprised that nobody has set up an INFOSEC wiki, does anybody want to help me do this? Maybe I should go to wikicities and see what can be done. Like seriously, fuck securityfocus, fuck SANS.org, we need something readable to, you know, human beings. That doesn't republish EVERY GODDAMN VIRUS AND VULNERABILITY ADVISORY from useless trivia unpatched user assland.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

Jon, your Wiki's lacking a certain, um, Wikiness. Or are you waiting for someone to take the plunge?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 1 September 2005 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

David, its mostly a place for me to document little scripts and such... I haven't had time to put most of my stuff on it yet.

Fushigina Blobby: Blobania no Kiki (ex machina), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

Is there anything up on it @ all? I didn't see anything! (Might be a work-PC-related issue, tho.)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

He has waaaaacky JS that makes little things expand and contract on command. It would be pretty except for the BROWN. BROWN LIKE TURD.

Weekly World News, Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

David R. are you using IE5?

Yea, There's a stylesheet node that I need to update. I have a ton of crazy little scripts I need to put up there.

Fushigina Blobby: Blobania no Kiki (ex machina), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

IE6, but the Powers That Be keep all sorts of JS-type shenanigans from happening.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:29 (nineteen years ago)

An often-visited wiki

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

I have a wiki, but it has nothing in it and I think the code's a bit broken.

http://www.memorygongs.com/wiki/

See the errors that come up? Now, I just executed a readymade Wiki install on my webhost's tools page. If it dont work I cant know why, and I'm no PHP coder :(

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 1 September 2005 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

If anyone can suggest a really simple help thingy for me to fixer it up, thatd be nice (jon I'm looking at you haha)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 1 September 2005 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

FINAL FANTASY WIKI great calypso

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 22:21 (nineteen years ago)

Chess Wiki.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 1 September 2005 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

i just saw a warning trayce, no error.

you can change yr. php.ini file to suppress warnings and it should work fine!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 2 September 2005 06:38 (nineteen years ago)

Oh ok... but that warning indicates something's wrong in the code, doesnt it?

ib/Request.php:299: Warning[2]: ob_start(): output handler 'ob_gzhandler' cannot be used after 'URL-Rewriter'

I dontknow what that means, I guess if it isnt bad thats ok, but hrm. Damn my lack of coding skilzor!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 September 2005 06:41 (nineteen years ago)

That said tho, whats the command to suppress errors? I'll try eet.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 2 September 2005 06:47 (nineteen years ago)

the best way in this case is just to open yr. /etc/php.ini file and set display_errors=Off.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 2 September 2005 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Sterling =)
