Our landlord wants to cut up our old fridge cos it died and it's too big to get out of the flat in one piece. Is he going to poison us with pestilential vapours?

Did they build your flat around the fridge originally, then? It must have got in there in one piece somehow, so it can be taken out in one piece. Cutting it up will release all that freon (or whatever the gas is) and that's not good.

They fitted out the kitchen around the fridge, which went in first. I'm not sure whether we can get the new fridge in either, which is sitting in the living room and unnerving us like some malevolent white 2001: A Space Odyssey monolith while we watch tv. But the old fridge is twice the size of the new one.
