so, if it were to be the case that I was in New York next week, would anyone be interested in meeting both me and my fair consort, ILX poster number four?

And this is no hypothetical question! for I will be in New York next week.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 5 September 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

Only if I get to serve you tea and then laugh like a disturbed hyena while everyone looks the other way and tries to pretend they don't know me.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 5 September 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

he he he he he he.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 5 September 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

wanna drink new orleans cocktails for charity?

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 5 September 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

I`m boozing elsewhere that night. rock on!

logged out vicar, Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

DV, I'll be happy to meet on Tues, Wed, or Friday night. Whaddya say?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

As it stands, I will also be in New York next week, from Thursday through Sunday, as my band will be playing CMJ on Thursday night.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Fushigina Blobby: Blobania no Kiki (ex machina), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Hey DV! Welcome to NY. Hopefully we'll have a chance to hang out next week while you are here. I'll be around, so I'll check back to see what plans are forming.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Anyone wanna do anything on Saturday?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

You looking to book Saturday daytime or evening, Jay? I have a bad feeling about the afternoon (as in, I think I'm forgetting something) but eve should be avail.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

What ho DV?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

(xpost) Either.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Basically, my show is on Thursday night, I'm hanging out with Stylus folks on Friday night, and I leave on Sunday night, so Saturday looks best. Sunday afternoon is open, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

i'm volunteering the candy shop as an inexpensive place to meet/hangout on saturday before or after conquering the town.

carly (carly), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to see the negativland exhibit at gigantic artspace tomorrow, if anyone wants to join.

s/c (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Every time you mention the candy shop, I keep thinking of that Supersystem song "Born Into the World," where dude sings "I lived above a candy store." Oddly, I don't think of 50 Cent.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

But yeah: rad, let's do it.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

also, i'm having a housewarming party there in two weeks, which i should post here or hereabouts. lower east side/chinatown former candy store, now my home.

xpost, yeah, it takes a few dozen mentions of the place before the 50 cent song really kicks in. i don't know why this is.

carly (carly), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

yay Saturday!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

tracer hand, no drinks tonight with me and laurel? time is of the essence...

carly (carly), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

I kinda want to see the CMJ daystage show on Saturday -- New Buffalo, yo -- but apart from that, it'd probably be a good day for stuff-doing. (Ah, and J, it turns out I have Thursday off from work this week, so I guess I'll be prepped and energetic for yr show. I am totally gonna deprive myself of Nightmare of You mall-emo to catch this.)

I keep reading candy shop as Cake Shop, and I'm all like: Carly, you can't volunteer other people's venues! NB Negativland exhibit is aight.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

(Re relief drinks, umm, I can't figure out if a place has been settled upon?)

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

there's a pete's candy store and a cake shop but there ain't no candy shop.

hstencil somewhere else and not logged in, Monday, 12 September 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, relief drinks! fraid i won't be able to make that.

s/c (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

i should really start some sort of commercial venture out of my apartment. damn the cake shop for beating me to the punch, damn them.

i guess spreading mall emo was the fevered dream of a madman, afterall?

carly (carly), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

i'm a frayed knot, carlz, i didn't realize it was actually on :(

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

nabisco, re relief drinks, laurel proposed three places from the list. i can leave work anytime and go anywhere.

carly (carly), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Well, since Trace is out could sommeone make a decision and choose one (1) venue? Nabisco?

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

I think my list of venue preferences (including tile-numbering, tap length, fleurs-des-lis, bathroom door lock mechanism, presence of redheads, etc) was made more than clear on the last FAP thread.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

well, nabisco, laurel and i won't be there til 6:20ish anyhow, so that should work out.

if ilx can entertain me for 7 hours a day, surely it can entertain me for an extra half hour...

oh man, i thought the red-head thing was just for faps, not for charity binge drinking? i'll get to work.

carly (carly), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

I'm keeping this thread new. Where is DV?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Tracerhand, you missed out on some sweet mint juleps.

carly (carly), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

I don't believe I have ever had a mint julep. This has got to change soon.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

i was totally going to make it 'my drink' but in reality i like vodka tonics better. mint and bourbon together are one of those contradictory combinations that always seem to intrigue.

carly (carly), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Hstencil pours a pretty good mint julep - and strong as hell. For mixed drinks though, I'm more of a mojitos fan.

Where the hell is DV???

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

I like the idea of a mint julep a lot. I like mojitos, too. But I'm not really much of a mixed-drink drinker at all. I usually go for gin and tonics.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

one halloween i drank all the vodka in the entire world, and ever since then i've been more into gentler things like wine and beer. this summer i was in indiana and rediscovered drinking shots, and my drink when drinks are apt is vodka tonic. last night's mint juleps followed by beer have left me feeling pretty great.

carly (carly), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

I don't like the taste of liquor, so I usually avoid shots or things like scotch. One New Years Eve in college, I put a pretty sizeable dent in a bottle of Southern Comfort, but that's not something I'd want to relive.

Beer is usually my drink of choice, though wine is quite acceptable too. Occasionally I might have a margarita or a mojito.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm with o. nate. I have been teased for saying I "don't do" shots.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

I nix the mint juleps, in fact I nix anything containing bourbon, but those gin/lemon/champagne things were the deliciousest.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

yeah, if only the champagne mojito would have benefitted victims of a hurricane...

carly (carly), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

So is the plan to just meet at the candy shop and then go out? Is there a particular place (i.e., bar) that would be good to go to? How much should we plan this?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Okay ... Carly just e-mailed me. Yes, that is the plan.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

i like this plan, because i like having people over. i have three local bars, though one will be cmj that night, another has a nice back patio but turns from a swedish restaurant into a club sometimes, and the other has excellent drinks but is all cocktails. but then, we wouldn't be far from anything really. there's a fun sake bar in the east village. actually, there's no shortage of drinks in new york. us nycilxors will put our heads together and come up with a bunch of options, but planning seems to be a bit hard around here.

carly (carly), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

I can't do shots, I think my throat is retarted. The gin + lemon + champagne, though, that did fine -- "French 57" is the name I'm retrieving from memory, and god do I wish those were on offer every day.

When is this candyshop party being planned for -- Saturday evening? Early evening / late evening? There was someone DJing that night that I wanted to see, but I can't remember who.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Gin/lemon/champagne does sound good.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

yeah, except for the gin!

carly (carly), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Carly if by "fun sake bar" you mean Decibel, I seem to remember that it's got a line out the door by, like, 8 pm and you can't be seated unless your whole party is present. We should stake out our spots at Good Earth! Good World? Whatever. Good fries!

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

i don't want this thread to go by the wayside, so i'll just say that if you are interested in hanging out on saturday, email me anytime! some great people are going to be at my apartment and/or good world bar (3 orchard st., near the east b/way (f) train) having fun on saturday night.

carly (carly), Friday, 16 September 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

Hi all... sadly I didn't go back to ILX after checking the thread on the 8th, at which point no one wanted to meet me. I still had a lovely time in your city, the highlight of which was perhaps boozing with some academics in the Bowery. I wish I was an academic, then I could booze in the Bowery all the time.

DV (dirtyvicar), Saturday, 17 September 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to say come over around or anytime after 8 tonight for NY ilx fun. email me for the address! jaymc and other ilx superstars will be in rare form.

carly (carly), Saturday, 17 September 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

CMJ is so funny. All the college kids look so cute with their little lanyards!

tom vek + mylo tonite at tribeca.

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 17 September 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Do you think they played "Drop the Pressure" at Motherfucker a lot?

nabiscothingy, Saturday, 17 September 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Aw sorry I didn't see this thread sooner but I'm so busy these days :(

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 17 September 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

I would like to be there, but it doesn't look like I'm making it. No reflection on jaymc's superstar status of course.

k/l (Ken L), Saturday, 17 September 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

Nobody is here on this board right now, so I assume y'all are having a great time.

k/l (Ken L), Sunday, 18 September 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

phil, wuz you at the ghostly party on thursday?

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 18 September 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

ugh no i missed it. i went to n6 for the dfa showcase (juan mclean, cut copy, hot chip, delia & gavin) - which was lots and lots and lots of fun - then stumbled back to my house for a small afterparty. how was the ghostly thing? i wanted to go

last nite was crazy though. went to tribeca for tom vek & mylo. so so crowded. and afterwards we went upstairs to tom veks hotel room for afterparty with a couple cases of red stripe and a bottle of whiskey, but then we got kicked out of the hotel around 7, and someone thought it would be a good idea to walk to battery park but then someone also thought it would be a good idea to try to lift me over their shoulder. but he was wasted and ended up dropping me on my head.

so now i just woke up and my head hurts because of the concrete sidewalk and not from the booze. and my neck hurts, probably too from the concrete sidewalk and not from enthusiastic dick sucking.

im going to stay home and play video games today. except hot chip and simian mobile disco are playing at maritime hotel.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

ghostly was fun! i got a compliment on my shirt and my friend got some good photos in. it was the only vaguely CMJ-related thing i bothered with all weekend, though a good deal of my friends had badges.

enthusiastic dick sucking

hmmmm...

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

oh, there was none of that going on. i think just wishful thinking.

im trying to figure out who that guy was so i can send him a hospital bill

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

thank you new york. i had an intensely memorable four days in your fair burg. :)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 September 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

someone has pictures. i can't remember. it's weird: parts of this weekend are incredibly lucid, others a total blur.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 September 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had been there.

youn, Monday, 19 September 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

you should've come!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 September 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

I was afraid of getting caught in a thunderstorm without an umbrella. Among other things. Maybe I will see your band in Chicago one day.

youn, Monday, 19 September 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

yikes, sorry phil.

glad you enjoyed your weekend here, jaymc. even though i, uh, didn't contribute anything to it

Nabisco is looking like a haunted thing out of John Bellairs, and Jay is giving thanks before breaking bread, the bread in this case consisting of fortune cookies.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 19 September 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

Hi Laurel! It was a pleasure to meet you.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 September 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Jay, you were a pleasant surprise. Please come back and make conversation any time.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 19 September 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Will you still call me Jay? ;-)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 September 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

Dude, you think I'm stopping now? I'm a busy person, I can't be expected to learn TWO names for all of you people.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 19 September 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Understood!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 September 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Cool! You guyslook like three contestants in a Bruce Springsteen lookalike contest.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 19 September 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

for the record, the group - which probably did not exceed 20 people total - consumed eight (8) bottles of wine and at least 20 beers besides. you don't want to know how many boxes of cigarettes were empty at the end of the night.

carly (carly), Monday, 19 September 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

bah, if only I had not been back in Ireland.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 19 September 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Definitely coming over early November, or last weekend in October, firming things up with work who I'm trying to convince to pay for my flights, on the grounds that there must be something useful I can do over there. Anyway, pencil in 5th November for drinkies.

Back in town for CMJ at the end of this week. Unfortunately, I'll only be around for 24 hours, so if anyone would like to hang out, you're encouraged to come by Europa on Friday night. Canasta plays at 9-ish, Fake Fictions at 7:30-ish. My friend Mike is planning an afterparty at a nearby bar, but I'm not sure where yet. YAY.

Pat died. :(

I never knew his DAD owned the plcae before him. In a city where everything changes all the time O'Connor's is really an astonishing story of continuity.

I notice that SPIKE is glaringly absent from that article, but I think he had a falling out with Pat. (He's the one that brought in the jukebox and got his friend to start coming there.)
