What happens when you sing the theme tune to "Rainbow"

Whenever I sing this in my head or out loud I get a strange tingly sensation, it's like the song has a strong connection with me and it flows out real easy including all the percussion sounds.

Is it just because I heard it a lot as a youngster? I don't get this from other childrens theme tunes.

My colleagues tend to look at me oddly.

You can hum any tune and then turn it into the theme from Muppet Babies.

Context is vitally important here, one feels

You get punched unless you're less than 10 years old or a student.

I just whistled it, and three people in various parts of the office started whistling along. It was a beautiful moment. Obviously there are properties in the Rainbow theme tune that will end wars, bring happiness to mankind etc.

Don't know about singing though - I'll try that after lunch.

I get tingles when I (rarely, these days) hear the Thames Television music because it always came right before the Rainbow theme tune.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

the thames television music is great, i thought about getting it as a ring tone, until i realised that i have my phone on silent, and i dont really know how to do it anyway. but the theme sums up an era of english television, and england itself, now gone

ten months pass...
Splash headline on today's Evening Standard Lite:

"CHAOS AS BUNGLE STRANDS 100,000 ON TUBE"

Perhaps George and Zippy are directors of Metronet.

You know that Bungle is really a Dalek, don't you?

Obviously there are properties in the Rainbow theme tune that will end wars, bring happiness to mankind etc.

Is this still true, do we think? (did we think this in the first place, or is Johnny B just a menk). Because I have the theme tune to Rainbow as my ringtone. I am neither less than 10 years old, nor a student. I don't even do ironic liking of things. It just makes me smile.

the bloke who played bungle in rainbow has just been on sky three's "50 favourite anthropomorphic animals" (that might not be the exact title, but it pretty much does the trick). he looks exactly like you'd expect.

what i've discovered is that when i sing the rainbow theme tune it goes into a massive extended percussion workout at the end: kind of "paint the whole world with a RAINBOW! bing-ba-dap-ba-dap-biddly-biddly-BOSH-bang-zung-bang-WHOP-chacka-zung etc", for a good five minutes. it ends up like john bonham. this didn't really happen, did it?

oh, it's not just anthropomorphic animals; it's celebrity animals. it's laika now. my heart is breaking :(

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 July 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

fuck me! the guy who played bungle was also the voice of K-9. well shit.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 July 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

And Zippy was voiced by that Dalek-voicing dude that died earlier this week!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 22 July 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

No, Zippy was Roy Skelton, who isn't dead yet but was a long-time dalek voice.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 22 July 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

No, before him. Looky here.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 22 July 2006 09:04 (nineteen years ago)

Well, there you go. I thought Roy was Zippy from the beginning.
