Thanks for the link, although I should clarify, I just want to get the text or a PDF online, so I can add a convenient link to it where it's needed.

do people put their grad school gpa on their resumes? mine is really good and i don't really have much experience in my field so it would be nice to have something related that might catch an employer's eye, but i don't know if this is frowned upon

yes!
― harbl, Friday, 13 November 2009 19:46 (sixteen years ago)
hmmm, i would think that if they really care about grades, they'll request a transcript or something.
― velko, Friday, 13 November 2009 19:47 (sixteen years ago)
really? i thought the only time you don't do it is if you think your gpa is low and will lower the reviewer's opinion of you
― harbl, Friday, 13 November 2009 19:48 (sixteen years ago)
also for recent grad you are more likely to be reviewed on your school record since that's all there is. after you've been working a few years they don't care so much anymore.

OK, so I have yet to come up with some easy, manageable way to maintain my resume. There are many nice Google Docs and Word templates, but they seem to all rely on tables which are a huuuuge bitch for cleanly adding and removing info.
What I want to do is have one oversized resume with all of my work/school/etc experience on it, and then I will remove things and tailor it to each position I am applying for. But I can't figure out how to make something that will both look great AND be easily editable. What formats do you guys use? Any suggestions?

I have mine as an InDesign file with difft text boxes I can tweak to match what I imagine the employer will like to see. I don't know if desktop publishing software is feasible for you, and I fear this answer may not be helpful.

Actually that's a pretty awesome idea!! But sadly I don't think my ancient Compaq will get along v well with desktop publishing software :(

how do you write a kick-ass resume if you are 6 years into your undergrad degree with a mediocre GPA and very little actual work experience

i've been reviewing resumes for an assistant position at my work and it's really sad how shitty most of them are: weird formatting, weird fonts for no reason, irrelevant information, and my personal pet peeve, people my age or younger who have five-page resumes padded out with dumb shit that no one cares about (poems they've had published, their tenure in high school jazz band). the saddest though is that we've gotten 50+ resumes for a one-day-a-week job, and probably 80% of the applicants are totally capable of doing this job, and we're only going to hire one of them.

I was on a search committee for an entry level librarian position at an academic library. The resumes were all well done, for the most part.It was disheartening to get over 100 resumes from qualified people and then try to narrow it down to one superlative.Library employment sitch still so bleak. Still feeling good about taking my sweet ass time getting this degree.

So I'm listing my duties at my present job, and it's all in the present tense: "Write X, edit Y, coordinate Z." But since it has some bearing on the position I'm applying for, I also want to mention a one-off project that I did a while back. Is it OK to finish the list with something in the past tense?
