Tom, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have nice bosses too. Although I'm glad Katie got the chance to rant that she obviously needed

Will, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't hate my bosses but sometimes they irritate me. Like when they say stupid insensitive shit obehind other people's backs or feel free to give us their uninformed political opinions and yet we can't say anything to them about it because we're underlings.

Also, they don't know very much about the subject with which our institution is primarily concerned. And one of them is quite impressed with himself intellectually, even though his reading list never ventures much further than the New York Times books section and he also cannot spell. There.

Anne O'Neamus, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't have any major gripes with my most recent employers, but at the high school i often felt as if my boss didn't appreciate the work i did, i was taken quite for granted. it got to the point that one day i was left to TEACH a class of third form music by myself when i am NOT a teacher and i didn't even get a thank you or an apology.

my other boss is generally really nice but i get offended with him on occasion when he says some really classist things about the mechanics (apparently working class people don't know how to appreciate good food) and he often implies that the measure of a persons success is how much money they make which is fuckin dumb.

di, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My boss just explained to me what "tricyclic looper" means. He's alright, my boss. Sorry Will!

Trevor, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate all bosses at the moment, they wont hire me

Menelaus Darcy, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Complaining in general, not really towards my boss... Anyway, he asked me the other day to get plans and price lists for different Builders for this new subdivision. So, today I call them up and one of them YELLS at me for a while saying it was MY fault that his plans weren't recorded yet (yes, this is my first time talking to him and no I have absolutely nothing to do with what he's talking about). I took it. I didn't stand up for myself for fear up upsetting the relations between the builder and our company further. I only said that I didn't have that information. In the end, he said, "Get me a date for recordation and MAYBe just maybe I'll give you a price list."
Humph.
So I call my boss to tell him that builder guy is a jerk.
Turns out I wasn't supposed to call the builders... EVER. I was supposed to get all that information from someone else in our company. But I wasn't told that. I was just told to get the information and I thought I should go to the source.
Anyway, it sucked because I took a bunch of shit and then was reprimanded for doing what I thought was my job (ie: talking to the builders).
*sigh*
I'm getting over it. Drinking bad office coffee and forcing down some water for good measure.

Aw Sarah. We still think you're great! (And aren't you a good poster, searching and reviving like we all should be.)

My boss is complaining that we have arranged a retirement party for a colleague during work hours. And will only fork out for 6 bottles of wine between the 70 odd people who will turn up from all over the university because unlike her they appreciate our colleague's long hard years of service.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I am my own boss. I am a complete asshole.

Where is Menelaus Darcy these days anyway?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

My boss looks like George Costanza. He drives a Mercedes, I drive a fuckin Nissan Sentra...do the math.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I just got an email from my boss with a presentation titled "Doing the Right Thing: Preserving your right to manage in a
Non-Union Environment."

Please shoot me now.

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Spike Lee does corporate uplift films!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, Archel. And good luck with your meeting!

Actually, my bosses are okay. But I hate immediate supervisors "checking up" on you, not because they actually want to check up on you, but just so that they can tell the people checking up on them that they checked up on you.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Then the buck has been duly passed and entire hierarchies of people are free to blame you for whatever they see fit!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless you have someone of your own to check up on.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck these motherfuckers in their motherfucking asses.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Do I have to?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my boss might be an ILX lurker. Or possibly a poster! So I can't. She's nice, anyway. And well-dressed.

...

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I guess you don't. But someone should.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear boss's boss:
"You are a goddamned fucking idiot."

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll volunteer to do Laurie for ya.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You would.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Just wanna help you out.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Laurie isn't really the problem.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

My last boss (before the place where I'm working now) hired me a way substandard wages (which I accepted only because I was promised a 30-day review and because the job market sucks so much ass now and I needed the money). He then expected me to do far more work than I could pull off with any kind of reasonable hours, allowed me to struggle to stay on top of stuff for about a month and a half and then fired me for not doing a good enough job. (Mind you, this is a development shop with no QA department whatsoever, so developers like myself are expected to both write more code than is humanly possible in a short time and be responsible for testing it thoroughly without missing test cases in spite of the fact that we've been staring at the same damned code for a couple days and probably will overlook some things just because we're not the proverbial "second set of eyes" there to check over the work.)

The guy's a total cock, and about a month later I found out he'd fired the other developer who was hired around the same time as I was. I'm starting to think he purposely hired both of us intending fully to dump us as soon as we got this particular project beaten into somewhat manageable shape.

I could go on, but it's not even worth it at this point. Anyway I've got another job now, and my salary here (which wouldn't be considered high for my skillset and responsibilities) is, no shit, almost $20,000 a year higher than what that fuckwit was paying me. And at the first job I was actually doing stuff that was a bit harder than what I'm doing here.

I can't say I'm so much furious as disdainful about this, but:

My boss calls me at the last minute to sub a class (K4PL4N GMAT). Now I already don't really want to be teaching GMAT at all, but she's disorganized and has failed to find enough teachers, so I'm doing it.

So I agree to sub the class and she more or less tells me "Don't do too good a job. The regular teacher I've got isn't very good."

Sorry, but fuck that. I did a great job and she can face all the complaints from people who aren't happy with the other teacher she hired.
