Crisp flavours - which ones taste most like the food they're supposed to?

I say Salt and Vinegar are probably the closest.

Tomato Sauce Flavour - says who? If I had never been brainwashed into believing Tomato Sauce Crisps were supposed to taste like Tomato Sauce, I would never have guessed what the fuck flavour they were.

Rumpie, Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

All of them, because they are all supposed to taste like crisps.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

Okay - instead of crisp flavours I should have been more clear perhaps and stated crisp flavourings?

Rumpie, Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Worcester sauce

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Ready Salted. And that's it.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

Bovril.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

KP Skins Loaded Cheese flavour, tho' they're rare as gold dust. Any sightings do let me know.

I've always wondered why there's never been an attempt at mushroom flavour crisps, particularly what with the explosion in posher crisps. Mixed field mushrooms and black pepper flavour, anyone?

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Golden wonder's "quite hot" crisps

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

Quite hot?! Is that real?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

That's made up!

Hedgehog flavour were good...and chocolate and fruit flavoured crisps were totally disgusting...

smee (smee), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure if you can still get them but Tudor Crisps did an excellent turkey & stuffing flavour. Tasted almost like a full roast.

peter d (peter dee), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

lamb and mint

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Barf - I tried thon strawberry crisps from Poundstretcher when I was about ten - I can still taste them to this day.

It's been donkeys since I've seen Spring Onion - the last spring onion flavoured crips I seen on the market were Crinkle Cut Mini Cheddars, but even they've been replaced now.

Rumpie, Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Other crisps which taste nothing like the food they're supposed to:

Cheese and Onion
Spring Onion
Paprika
Rib 'n' fucking Saucy

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Ranch really does taste like DIRT.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Crisps I miss:

Hard Cheese Nik-Naks
Toasted Cheese Walkers.

In fact, cheese flavoured-crisps, aside from Quavers and Wotsits, have pretty much disappeared. Or been watered down - I mean, "Cream 'n' Cheesey"?

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Nice 'n' Spicy come close mind you...

Rumpie, Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

To what?

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

I never got to try vanilla ice cream flavoured Monster Munch. Bet they were dead nice though - *Barf*

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Verily, they were satan.

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Those Monster Munch look interesting. I've never seen them before.

Rumpie, Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

man, you britishers know your wacky potato chip flavors, huh

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Brits eat more than 10 billion bags of crisps a year. 10 billion.

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

"...that is more than 150 packs per person per year - more than the rest of Europe put together." (Source)

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

And that's just the Spice Girls!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

dill pickle chips are the best

ai lien (kold_krush), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

i think the last time i even had a crisp was in the UK!

they are good, though - plus you have those crazy flavors. I remember the sunday roast flavored one, it was like roast chicken and rosemary potatoes or something - mmmm they were DELISH!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

salt and vinegar does taste kinda salty and vinegar-y. usually.

on monday i had a packet of walkers sensations "steak and pepper sauce". they did taste ever so slightly of a low-grade peppered steak.

i miss chocolate pretzels. they were the single best snack invention ever.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

I love the idea that in this country these evil brain rotting crisp companies sit around trying to conjure up daft and original snack ideas, release them onto a vultural, gannet-like public under the guise of a "limited edition" (!), watch them fly off the shelves, then withdraw them from sale in time for the next snackular curio.

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Fuck a duck. TELL ME THE VANILLA ICE CREAM MONSTER MUNCH ARE NOT REAL.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

We should have some kind of international pen-pal snack trade thing. Is there anything we have that interests the Brits? You have better chocolate, more crisp flavors . . . Can I send anyone some cinnamon gum in exchange for a bag of wacky crisps?

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Note: I have no idea if there is cinnamon gum in England or not. I just know that one of my bf's good friends asked him to bring Trident (brand) Cinnamon Gum over when he visited.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

I miss roast ox crisps and little egg sandwiches in a plastic thing from a store. :(

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

cinnamon isnt as popular in the UK as it is in the states, it seems

ooh we do have GUACAMOLE chips, thats.. not that interesting, i guess. but they are GOOD!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

posho kettle chips sea salt rosemary and garlic num num tastes like all three!

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Q: Is gum a snack?

Does anywhere sell Twinkies in the UK?

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 8 September 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)
