Seriously, is there any way to actually enjoy New Year's eve?

It is my birthday, and I hate it.

How to enjoy new year's eve:

I think I want people round to play boardgames and eat tiramisu this new year. Dunno who though.

I like to go for a walk by myself during the year changeover, listening to people shoot off fireworks and yell in the distance.

Going to a very nice beer based restaurant with my parents and another couple their age as usual - since I don't have (m)any IRL friends and we've been doing this for like forever. Don't care much about missing parties and heavy drinking, I'll be having some very good food & not much of a disturbed biorhythm when I get back to work on Monday. Getting old, innit. :D

ill be asleep at 10pm.

I hate NYE but watching that concert would probably make me hate it even more.

I've always found it really depressing and, for some reason, Auld Lang Syne makes me tear up.

if we want to go to a rowdy sports bar that is one of the only places still open here

keep in mind, we moved recently to a very small beach town that is in the middle of off-season. the town shuts down for winter and there are not a lot of options for going out.

My train of thought in these situations is that you always go out, and if you're bored of what's going on at the time, you can go back home and then the appeal of your first option becomes even more enjoyable.

Escaped the inlaws after watching weird Andre Rieu concert where we all sat and laughed at how douchey he is and made tasteless Hitler jokes. so that was kinda fun. Home now, watching A Serious Man on demand. Bummed though, left the champers at inlaw house so no booze :(

Great times! Disco tunes all night and some wild living room dancing. My legs are (marginally) more sore than my head.

backyard party at friend of friend's house, then got lift to amazing warehouse party with huge manta ray sculpture suspended above dancefloor, people laying all over the road out front, like a damned warzone

was better than last year!

i actually had fun. we pretty much played Things all night and my bro, who is a bartender, made us drinks the whole night.

also watched Cannibal the Musical for the first time in like 9 years!

had a lovely nye in the end, went to a party with a few ilxorz...got home about 6am, really nice time.

Went to pub with some of my favourite people, listened to cheesy pub karaoke tunes, drank lots, had fun, we all left before the pub closed, didn't have to wait too long for a taxi home. Was basically like a good Friday night out with mates in the pub, with extra mates who aren't usually in town and more free food and drink.

A friend and I festively wandered through the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the ROM. Did you know the Qin army (a distant relative to the Kiss army) ran roughshod over China between 230 and 220 B.C.?

NYE actually not too bad this year. Went to my best friend's place where he had a bunch of people over. Two people ended up fucking in the guest room shortly after midnight and another puking off the deck. Pretty glad that wasn't me tbh. Home by 2 but with a sick puppy at 7:00. :( Really hoping I don't wind up at the animal hospital today. I've already spent two New Year's Days in the ER for myself (non-drunk related illnesses) and it's not fun.

Went to Alabama 3's NYE party at the Jamm in Brixton with gf + bunch of best friends. Unsurprisingly fairly lol old crowd and a bit expensive but as far as going out on NYE can be, it was very enjoyable.

My girl and I hung out with our married friends at their house, played apples to apples and mario bros. on Wii, laughed at sex toy infomercials, went outside at midnight to make noise and wish the hood a good year, smoked mad w33d, drank only beer and still feel like a human being this morning. Sounds like a pretty great argument for the boring life!

This happened to me as well. Maybe I should have stayed perched atop the city by myself at the top of an abandoned school's east stairwell w/ a decent bottle of white wine - as I was when the actual year changed over - instead of trying to be social.

nye went like this: thai food (really more chinese tho: egg noodle soup with roast pork and bok choy), egg nog, listened to '90s madonna, watched the ball drop on east coast time, fell asleep.

morning after: slept in, made scrambled eggs, drinking coffee. no hangover cuz i didn't put that much whiskey in the nog.

-went to party thrown by a dude i vaguely know
-met some new ppl
-kept getting handed mixed drinks all night, favorite line was "whats in this" "YOUR MOM, shut the fuck up, just drink it"

went to a rad house party here in atl w/ my brother's band & then the Grand Prize Winners From Last Year, a local band that could be huge, beats + guitars + rapping + horns, incredible, all in a kitchen at a house in Cabbagetown...still blown away by the awesomeness.

Drank a massive amount (two bourbon-and-cokes, one cosmopolitan, four glasses of champagne, and three-quarters of a 4Loko without getting a hangover or anywhere past half-drunk. Am worried about my growing tolerance for booze.

i can't drink as much as I used to as it impacts stomach acid issues that didn't used to be as bad. I kinda think it's a good thing. if this was 06 I'd have passed out from tanq and tonic
