yes, thanks!

Mitya (mitya), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

Can anyone explain to me why Google is still not lifting gmail into full public release? Everyone on gmail now has dozens of unused invitations, yet still Google launches actions against sites that try to commoditise them.

The slightly paranoid theory that I have revolves around them wanting to harvest the invitations data to build up a network of social connections around the globe, the integrity of which the sale of invitations would prejudice. I don't mean they're interested in monitoring our personal lives and friendships, just that they might find some use in seeing the patterns.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

Should be there, enjoy :) xpost

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

i have a 100 of these. remember when these were worth something? I made $200 selling them on ebay!

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey! How many did you sell?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

got it. thanks, patrick.

Mitya (mitya), Thursday, 16 March 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

i sold ten, I think. I actually got $90 for one of them, and then a lot less for the others.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 16 March 2006 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

I got my gmail account about a year ago, and for some reason they haven't given me any.

chap who would dare to be a stone cold thug (chap), Thursday, 16 March 2006 00:35 (nineteen years ago)

$90???!!!

Why would anyone pay that? Surely there were lots for sale and a reasonably settled market value was found? Or were you like one of the first people in the world to have one?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 16 March 2006 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

when gmail first was unveiled (and yeah I was one of the first people to have one) people were paying mad, mad bucks for them on ebay, especially (I assume) if they had a common name, so they could lock that up. stupid but people do stupid things and luckily I got to profit off it for a week.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 16 March 2006 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

i need an invite too, if there are any more spares floating around (i don't have 90 bucks)

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)
