wtf ARE they? the belgian swears they are sheep, scottish ones, but i think they are haggises.

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 11 September 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

They look like baby llamas to me.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 11 September 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

Not that I know what a baby llama actually looks like.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 11 September 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

They could well be baby llamas or alpacas or something, but crucially they look like they've been shorn.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Sunday, 11 September 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

My guess would be shorn alpacas - I don't think they're quite the right shape to be llamas, but I couldn't swear to it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 11 September 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

i think you're right! they look so weird with those huge knees and enormous dandelion heads...

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 11 September 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

I second llama. The question remains, though -- why would anyone give a llama a poodle cut?!
Aah, just stick with "camelbear". It serves them very well. Except they don't have humps.

Surfer_Stone_Rosalita (Surfer_Stone_Rosalita), Sunday, 11 September 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

er yeah i realised the hump thing afterwards. but perhaps they are mutant camelbears - having lived so long in the soggy northumberland countryside, they've evolved to not have them any more. they're just so ridiculous-looking though, i love them.

It's easier. Shearing around the head and feet would be trickier than mostly just doing the body. One of the reasons why sheep are so ideal for this. Baldy faces and baldy legs.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Sunday, 11 September 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

chickenbears!

Masked Gazza, Sunday, 11 September 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Them is penguins.

M. V. (M.V.), Sunday, 11 September 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

They are shorn alpacas. There are some alpaca farms here, people spin the wool. There are always some at the county fair, with spinning demonstrations. When shorn they're like the afghan hounds of ungulates.

coming soon to the bull and gate!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 11 September 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Shorn alpacas? I am astounded!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 11 September 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

The wonders of the world are infinite!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 11 September 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

Those are long-necked Mongolian ponyaks.

nabiscothingy, Sunday, 11 September 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

they are gorgeous and extremely silly-looking and now i want to go and see a real one. are they generally friendly/curious?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 12 September 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

shaved baby bison?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 12 September 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

ponyaks = pwnyaxors, -vs- sheepfuxors

They're in the camel family. They might spit. But I don't think they'd have those petting-zoo/weaving demonstration tents at the county fair if the animals were biters. I patted them. They seem tolerant but uninterested. Maybe if you had an apple. I bet there's an Alpaca farm near you. Alternative livestock are all the rage.
