Adam Gadahn was apparently a friend of Chris Blanc at one time. Who's Chris Blanc? Longtime USENET folks might know him under various monikers like Spinoza Ray Prozak, and as the head of anus.com, a site of ill repute in the minds of the vast majority of humanity. He even defended Gadahn in a statement last year, after he was contacted, asking about where Adam might be, defending him and saying he wasn't a terrorist (effectively breaking kayfabe).

Sounds a bit like the hoo-ha in the media here over David Hicks, who is still set to go to trial... one day... some year... maybe next millenium who knows.

It's really important to watch this Gadahn tape because his SoCal accented English really demystifies Al Qaeda's message by depriving it of the exoticism that Arabic signifies in the minds of many westerners. The message sounds absurd especially when seeing him ape the language and gestures of his heroes (who should be listened to with the same skepticism and incredulity - especially in light of real disasters like the tsunami and Katrina which affect muslim and infidel alike).

I'm sure someone will try to spin an environmentalism / terrorism connection from this.

But really, the most fascinating thing in that article is Bratton's quote (italics mine, check this out):

"We're the entertainment capital of America," Bratton said. "All the negative images of America that these people hate are represented here in Los Angeles."

I.e., what: even key Angelenos will now spout the "heartland" populist Hollywood-as-everything-wrong-with-America schtick? Is this a recent development, or have I just missed it? If this were put forth without the word "negative" it'd have made perfect sense -- this is the international face of America, etc. As it's expressed, though, it's almost nearly edging toward an agreement with terrorists: "The one thing terrorists and 'real' Americans agree on is that Hollywood is a cesspool."

Maybe drop the "all"...
