Programs that can convert wma/mp3s/wavs and edit them?

I need something simple (and free) that can convert .wma files (whatever those are) to something editable (.wavs?) then convert those to .mp3s.

Any suggestions?

Maybe audacity. I downloaded it last week. It does loads of things, but I'm still working it out.

I'm not certain that Audacity can convert .wma files, but it can definitely convert .wav and mp3 and .ogg files.

The conversion feature on JetAudio works quote well, and can cope with WMA, WAV, MP3, FLAC and OGG.

winamp can convert wma to wav, and exact audio copy w/lame can re-encode them to mp3.
