Tim H and RickyT Birthday FAP 7th October Calthorpe Arms

Hello foax. Tim and I will shortly be completing another year of our respective lives (in my case my 30th) and are very much in favour of celebrating this with a pint or three. To this end, we are holding a bit of a do upstairs at the Calthorpe Arms on the 7th October, to which you are all invited.

This might look like it clashes with FATS, but fear not, we are intending to be in the pub early (ie straight after work) and then go onto FATS later for the post-pub dancing.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

Total Ruin Solutions

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

aw, i feel a little guilty that everyone's calling it FATS now, but only a little bit ;)

as i was saying in Another Place, this seems like a good opportunity for a GREAT RACE from calthorpe to opporto, as there are several transport options...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

you were at the house of lords??!???!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

as i was saying in Another Place, this seems like a good opportunity for a GREAT RACE from calthorpe to opporto, as there are several transport options...

Nah, has to be a foot race

Raymond Douglas Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

Call it Sugar, but please don't call it FATS.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

Too much Sugar makes you FATS

Raymond Douglas Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

I shall be at both of these.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Marianna, I didn't think.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

excellent, will be at both of these.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

I am glad you explained that you are each completing another year of your respective lives, as otherwise I would have thought you were completing each other's. Perhaps you could try that for next year? I'll try to help by talking to you about Exeter City and contemporary art, and I'll talk to Tim about advanced physics and dancing to Baxendale.

I'll be there, and may even go along to that young person's clubby thing afterwards.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Bump!

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Ow!

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

I'll probably turn up for the pub bit, but they'll never let me into Bar Oporto!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

Where is this Calthorpe Arms again?

Gosh, that sounds world-weary.

It is not meant to. I have just forgotten and cannot be arsed to look it up.

I hope it is near the work where I work.

Also, what is FATS?

I hear top of the table Exeter lost to bottom of the table Burton the other day.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

there's no dress code at the bar oporto as far as i know... (they let me in)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

follow the links in the first post for details of pub location and FATS (i cannae be arsed to tell you directly) (xpost)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

FATS is a dancing state of mind

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

Needless to say, this will be a big-beat-free event.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

The strains of bentley rythmn ace last night certainly was something I would have rather remained buried.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

Ed you were clearly enjoying the sounds of the BIG BEAT. There's no point in denying it.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

What I was trying to forget is that I have that record somewhere (And Everybody needs a 303 and some midfield general 12"s)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

SO ahead of the curve.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

Oh blimey and all this when I'm trying to Not. Drink. Anymore.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, I had not seen the links. My eyes could not be arsed to register them. I do apologise.

I have been to the Calthorpe Arms, I think. We got ejected at an early hour. There was snooker, and KeefW.

I will pencil myself in, early doors.

FATS does not sound like my piece of cake.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

I just realised that the reason this date sounds familiar is because it's the actual birthday of my sister, who I've been living with for six years, and who will see a lot less of me when I'm living in the London. So, er, attendance not likely.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Does someone on ilx run the club? I still don't get it, about the club, otherwise.

the pinefox, Saturday, 1 October 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

Yes: it's run by Ken C, Marianna, the Lex - and Barima, is it? And a few other people, I'm not 100% clear.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 1 October 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

I see - I think. It was hard before this information to get the way that Ken and others were going on about it. Maybe they should have made it clear. Maybe not.

the pinefox, Saturday, 1 October 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

I think you and I, Pinefox, participate in ILx just too little to quite grasp what the bleedin' hell is going on most of the time. It's not a bad state to be in.

I will be at the pub, early doors, but not, I think, to the dancey thing.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Saturday, 1 October 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

Tim,

Sorry, won't be able to make this for various reasons... Meeting Claire T1mm1ns that night. I think I should sort out a Wobs visit though.

KeefW (kmw), Saturday, 1 October 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

I shall be attending the public house section of the evening, early doors. How early doors depends on how early doors others are attending. I don't want to sit on my own with those snooker obsessives.

It is exciting to learn that Ken Chu has a club. He is very much a scenester, and a trendsetter.

It is a shame you can't come, Keith.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 3 October 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there pretty early, PJ - but I'm not sure if that means 5.15 or 6 at the moment.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

OK.

I ahve just realised that I biggied down Ken's club earlier on. I was wrong, of course, I'm sure it is my piece of cake, and indeed that of any right-thinking person.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

I am not sure what my piece of cake would be. Possibly an exotic-flavoured madeira one from Waitrose.

I am a tragically wrong-thinking person, and can therefore comment with confidence that Ken's club is regrettably not concomitant with the blend of tea currently astir in my admittedly inappropriate tea mug.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

I will be there early doors, it being round the corner from work, so c. 5.30. I will be eagerly anticipating the return of the weary travellers, as Chris and Tim will be arriving into Waterloo about 5pm and will be coming straight to the pub.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

Isabel and I will be along for the pub, sadly not the club cos we have to get up v.early and go to a wedding, but I will try and stick around until everyone goes dancing. ALSO Al may well be coming.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

i'm trying glasgow the very next day! but still be there until 1am.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

The 7th is my wife's birthday! Hoist a few in her honor plz.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I will hoist for Joei but i'll be drinking for me.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

yay, looking forward to both the birthday FAP and dancing after!

i think more FAPs should be set with dancing after in mind. and no, i don't mean going to spain.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

do people dance in spain?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

I am looking forward to this early doors birthday gathering.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 06:57 (twenty years ago)

We tried dancing in Spain once and the Hairy Man put a swift stop to such antics.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 07:59 (twenty years ago)

Hello foax. Especially for you ultra-early-doors people, I've just popped down the Calthorpe and changed the arrangements so that the upstairs bar will be open from six. So the amount trooping up and downstairs with beer will be minimised.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

6? Not early enough!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

i'm trying glasgow the very next day! but still be there until 1am.

What, again?!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

bump.

thankfully my lovely agency has found me a new job, consequently i am in a considerably cheerier mood and will duly pop along at teatime for a few jars. i may even proceed to bar oporto!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:07 (twenty years ago)

as i am orf to manchester early tomorrow i may give FATS a miss tonight...

...ask me again at 10.30 though innit ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

Will both the Guvnor and RickyT be drinking?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

...and would they hate me if I went to the Telescopes/Sonic Boom gig instead of their FAP?

Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea to swing by early doors and then go off to the gig.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Seeing as the guvnor's been drinking his way around Europe I imagine he may well be having a couple

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

I can't make it this evening, but have a good evening Ricky and Tim - and the rest of you.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

Your absence is a crushing blow, Jerry.

My wife is coming along, you know.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

excellent news! will it be the three of you or are you leaving the little'un somewhere else?

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

The little'un is staying at home with her grandmother. I don't think she's ready for the pub, despite Ava's attempts to lead her astray.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

hb rickyt/guvnor!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 7 October 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

Hi Ricky and Tim, as I said on the Sugar thread, I can't make this due to prior wrok-based booking. But happy birthday and I'll see you both soon and buy you a belated birthday drink.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 7 October 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

Sonic Boom just cancelled, apparently. Sigh. So you'll be forced to endure my presence after all.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm. Slumped on the settee nodding off in front of 'Rockschool' - or dragging my weary carcass off to the far reaches of the Metropolis? Difficult one.

If I don't make it out tonight, I wish everyone, especially TimH & RickyT, a fabulous drink-up.

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

That would be a work-based thing for me, not wrok-based.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

but you work is wRok based!

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

Rick, Tim: sorry I can't be there, I'm in Manchester at the moment!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

I think you'll find its spelt wrawk.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

I can confirm that both tim and chris will be putting their new found alcohol tolerance to the test this evening, and for the rest of the weekend, as 'going straight into booze free may kill me after this week'

Hurrah, only 3 hours 15 mins til pub time!

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

That's half five, right?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

5.35 to be exact

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

I will be on the booze, aye.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

I'l be along as soon as I have transported a load of books to E5.

Suckling robot at a warrior rave (alix), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

I have to make a cheuq payment on Pakenham Street so i shall be there early too.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

boo, it looks as though Tim and Chris's train has been cancelled, so they're going to be an hour late and won't get to the pub until about 7.30

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

Is there a bar on the train, though?

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

I had felt it in my water, that something like this would happen.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

What water? What's wrong with you? Are you a cloud?

Suckling robot at a warrior rave (alix), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

The water in my waterworks.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Waterwroks?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

There's a crap bar in the station, but Tim can't smoke there. They were feeling all pleased with themselves, getting there right on time, all organised. I hope they've got beer they can crack open on the train otherwise they'll be two unhappy campers by the time they get to the calthorpe.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

Where are they? Brussels?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

lille

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Oh.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

If they were in brussels they'd be even worse off, seeing as there's a strike effecting all the trains (which is why their train was cancelled, as the train's come from brussels and they must have had rolling stock problems or something)

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

effing railways. They affect to be so organised, but are just ineffectual.

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 7 October 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

I am going to see a poet.

I hope I can see people after that!

the bobfox, Friday, 7 October 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

They sell Chimay on the Train, all is not lost.

Ed (dali), Friday, 7 October 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

The dread spectre of sobriety has been averted (Or, what the fuck is wrong with all you people?)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 7 October 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

It was good.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Saturday, 8 October 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

Thanks to everyone for coming. It was ace!

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 8 October 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

Thank you for having us.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Saturday, 8 October 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

Waggledance, mmmmmmmm.
