Murder Blues is a new documentary series that follows the work of Operation Trident, the Metropolitan Police unit set up five years ago at the request of the black community to tackle gun crime. Eighty per cent of shootings in London involve British-born black youths, who use every conceivable form of gun to settle the most trivial arguments.
The episode tonight focuses on an investigation into the shooting of Marcus Cox, a 25-year-old gang member who had 70 criminal convictions. The problem facing the police is that numerous suspects had the means and motive to murder him. “(But) we can’t have people running around with guns shooting people,” says DS Mark Brookes. No indeed.
This was on last night. Fucking scary. I used to live in East London and never remembered it being this bad. We all know coppers are cunts (no, no, they REALLY are - the job demands it of them) and given the levels of danger and aggression they're taking on the streets it's no wonder they turn into such damaged people.

the criminal justice system is only just starting to recognise that violence affects both the perpetrator and the victim. by violence i mean any kind of physical intervention - institutional, 'legal' included - if you are involved in 'control and restraint' situations it's inevitably going to damage you as a human being except they don't notice it, it's considered 'part of the job'.
sad. it's a horrible job - someone's gotta do it though or we'd be overrun with gangstas.
