I have had a burning curiosity for a while now, and I need to know. Who among us is a free mason? what to the free masons get up to? do they have a secret handshake? why are we mere mortals not allowed to know? what is the big deal with the brethren?

So here i my plan. I just need one brave and fine upstanding man to be my knight in shining armour. My challange is for one, some or all of you to infiltrate the free masons and tell us all about it. Is this a possibility? has anyone got any information they can share? I just know they are hiding something...

I'm a stonecutter...

I think my Grandpa's old 'brotherhood' is still going, Mene, I'll infiltrate when I go back to the IOW tomorrow. Unless I get 'blackballed', that is. It's like that scene in 'Eyes Wide Shut' but without the nudie ladies, I think. All very gothic and candlelit and mask

Will, Friday, 21 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OK Will, but remember, these people might be dangerous. Be careful and don't forget to carry a cyanide pill and any compromising info on a cigarette paper so you can roll it up and smoke it.

THE FREEMASONS ARE COOL. THEY HAD A BIG HEADQUARTERS IN BOSTON. THEY ARE SNEAKY. I THINK THEY WORSHIP SATAN. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!

Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down?

We do! We do!

Who leaves Atlantis off the maps? Who keeps the martians under wraps?

We do! We do!

Who holds back the electric car? Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?

We do! We do!

Who robs the cave fish of their sight? Who rigs every Oscar night?

We do! We do!

I got a Freemasons scholarship and had to go to a Freemasons dinner. I had my photo taken shaking hands with this guy in a suit and all these other guys in suits looking on, and they published it in the Freemasons newspaper. I got that newspaper sent to me for a while. It was really boring. The sinister thing about Rotary and Freemasons is just that they are business organisations that support each others businesses and leave non-participants - ie immigrants, women etc - out in the cold, to die they hope. I have a cool picture of myself shaking hands underneath the freemasons sign to show for my betrayal of my most dearly held beliefs. It was worth it.

How does one qualify for a free mason scholarship? This could be my big chance!

Menelaus Darcy, Saturday, 22 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I believe that to qualify for a Freemasons' scholarship you have to have the normal academic achievement but their special requirement is that you prove that you're a 'good citizen'. ie, do some kind of volunteer work.

charles, Saturday, 22 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well I got the academic achievement covered believe it or not... and I just found out I have the pedigree. In a shock revelation I found out that my grandfather( hang on a minute, wasn't everyones grandfather?) and my FATHER were masons, my father for a very brief time. I must probe and find out about his time as a freemason. Obviously it left a gap in his life he filled with rotary.

Should I feel shocked by this news? I am...
