I love the close-up of him quietly contemplating the panelling.

also, she's meant to have this kickass eye for Picassos but she thinks that leonardo dicaprio's How to Draw shit is good.

I fucking love this movie
I couldn't get past the historical inaccuracy that "Mesdemoiselles d'Avignon" perished on the Titanic ...

yeah, that is great!
― plax (I know, right?), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 20:24 (sixteen years ago)
the "best" thing about this movie is that it led to me coining the phrase "dolphin moments" ... I watched it w/my bf and during that romantic scene on the ship's prow, he said, "Watch, I bet there'll be dolphins." ... and then, sure enough, there were dolphins. "Dolphin moments" are scenes involving cinematic clichés that are so predictable, you can't imagine that the filmmakers will resort to them, but then they do.

I am also deeply in love with her modern day daughter, a lot of this movie looks a lot like the reconstruction bits on Dorling Kindersley videos
― plax (I know, right?), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 20:30 (sixteen years ago)
the special effects look unbelievably bad now.
xp - I don't know what those are. But, it really was striking how much time was spent on fetishistic shots of the furniture, dishware, luxury items as the ship was in the process of sinking.

the whole movie seems dubbed and they put that weird iMovie diffuse light filter over everything. I saw this program about how they basically had every little detail of the cutlery and linen remade for this, with cute little stamps and engravings and things. Is awesome.

also, when they invite him to dinner she says how amazing it is that he lets on like he's this super-moneyed heir and fools the rich ppl but then the first line anyone says is how he's super-poor and he spends the next ten minutes being all "i live each day as it comes guvnor!"
― plax (I know, right?), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 20:45 (sixteen years ago)
do you actually like this movie?

"do you love him?"
― plax (I know, right?), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 20:51 (sixteen years ago)
I think some of the famous paintings are actually anachronisms, but I'd have to watch the movie again to remember what they all were.

all his drawings quote picasso drawings too, but in a dodgy shitty way

I have no idea ... but I was really happy that it was so easy to find that ad through GIS ... it was ubiquitous when I was growing up.

Cornball with terrible dialogue, but immaculately constructed. That's my memory, anyway.
