Just as you can prove whatever you wish by selectively quoting the Bible, in a world of 6.5 billion people, you can prove any 'trend' by selectively describing the right ten people.

"Just as you can prove whatever you wish by selectively quoting the Bible, in a world of 6.5 billion people, you can prove any 'trend' by selectively describing the right ten people."

isn't that the point of, like, ANY trend in the world? I mean, if you weant to go that far, there are many people in Afrika and Asia who don't give a fuxk about metrosexuals, Grand Theft Auto, Botox or Reggaeton but we still call them a trend, don't we...?

There seems to be a hot new trend in umbrella-related topics sweeping the Internet!

Metrosexuals, Grand Theft Auto, Botox, and Reggaeton: can Perry please come write another "My Favorite Things" parody?

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 16 September 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

(NB metrosexuals are the oddest one out of that set, since it's less a "trend" than a newly-invented category -- kind of a subtle sub-sub-sub-genre of gender, really -- of the sort that you can immediately project outward and backward to describe all sorts of stuff. E.g. who's the most metrosexual-type character in Julius Caesar?)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 16 September 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Brutus, I think.

elmo (allocryptic), Friday, 16 September 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Nah, it's obvious but it's gotta be Caesar.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Catullus's version of Caesar, most definitely. Shakespeare's version, less so.
