And there is also a completely HILARIOUS thread for the Brits who get Lost episodes sent to them via clipper ship months after they air! It's a scream!)

I anticipate being done with my sequential Lost orgy around noon tomorrow. But I've seen a lot of it already, just out of order and with no context (the first time), which is awful and shameful and I should have been paying more attention because now I know what happens but it's not as much fun. Which is why I'm anticipating season 2, you see?! I bet you wouldn't be dissing on my thread if it had that cool banner on it.

how much of what happened to Gale (killing and burying the real Gale, getting caught in Rousseau's trap, being captured by Sayid, the torture, the communication with Locke) was planned or intended by him?
Klugh implied it was not planned for him to get captured. was she lying? surely Gale would not get trapped/captured by accident?

I assumed this was down to electro magnetic gubbins though, rather than an actual physical explosion. Which might mean that lock+eko are fine.

Very good question cribbed from another board:1. Desmond doesn't push the button on schedule. There is a system failure that lasts for some short period of time. Some kind of electromagnetic force crashes plane.2. Locke smashes computer and button isn't pushed on schedule. There is a system failure that lasts for some period of time longer than first, which we can assume because the force of the magnet is so strong as to crumple the clock.
Something doesn't add up -- if the magnet is so strong as pull the plane apart at that distance, why didn't it crumple the clock then? Or, from the other perspective, what happened elsewhere on the island during the second system failure? Wouldn't other metal things be flying toward the hatch? (Maybe someone who watched via torrent can answer that.)
I'm not sure how to resolve this apparent conflict. Perhaps the magnet is unidirectional? Perhaps during Desmond's failure there was actually someone sitting in an as-yet unseen control room who "aimed" it somehow?

No (or maybe no) Steve. Remember they built those storehouse shelves to store all the food that was dropped from the sky.

the "real" Henry Gale is flying a Widmore balloon (on another "race" around the world? pretext to lure someone else to the island?) .... but after crashing on the island he gets killed by fake Henry .... perhaps to steal his identity and infiltrate the Widmore doings on behalf of Hanso peeps ... but then he accidentally gets caught in Rousseau's net
still got no idea what that Widmore pregnancy test is all about
― Renard (Renard), Friday, 26 May 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)
Also, what was the timeline between the food drop and the balloon? Is it possible that the balloon dropped the food and then crashed?

― nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 26 May 2006 17:02 (nineteen years ago)
No, not for sure. I think it's what we were meant to assume, but I'm inclined to believe Henry when he says "we're the good guys", and I suspect the real Henry Gale probably copped it some other way.
― JimD (JimD), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)
Also, unmagnetized metal can't be repelled by a magnet regardless of its polarity, so a hatch door shouldn't have been blown away so forcefully. Like polarities repel, but both items have to be magnetic. Unless this is a new Lostian physics.

This is probably the LEAST confusing thing! Widmore owns Widmore Labs, a pharmeceutical company. The pregnancy test itself probably isn't meaningful, but it's a nod to this man's wealth and corporate entity.
― Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Saturday, 27 May 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)
??
seems meaningful when they show it in close-up for a good long while and someone asks, "Who travels on a plane with a pregnancy test?"

I figure that's Option 1. Option 2 is that fake henry wanted the button not to be pushed at some later date but did not want to be in the vicinity when that happened.
(on the other hand, since not pushing the button apparently was gonna cause Armageddon for real, that's kind of a short-sighted strategy on fake henry's part) (but he showed almost no reaction when the sky went white so it's almost like he was expecting it)

Also Jack's dad was the potential-terrorist daddy on the second season of 24.
And Hurley's imaginary friend played the human rights lawyer on 24 last year.

LOL at pleased to mitya & Jessie the Monster energetic speculation
yes. Penny Widmore --> Penelope
= Jack's wife?
amongst others
disappointed there weren't clearer conclusions but I guess I don't really want proper conclusions for another year or two and what we saw did answer and pose more questions as they were bound to
LOL refs: david hume (1. scottish 2. free will Vs. determinism etc), lord kelvin from jules verne's "around the world in eighty days" (1. desmond's trip do you see 2. if fogg suceeded he would take kelvin's position in the royal society), penelope (1. odysseyus's faithful wife 2. desmond's trip do you see), bet there were more
liked finding out that desmond crashed the plane, liked the magnet thing going crazy and the flying cutlery & darts and stuff, haha liked the big four-toed colossus foot, kind of liked the connection of desmond's despair w/ locke's and des hearing locke banging and turning on the light that locke saw etc, tom's beard was v funny too
this whole widmore/hanso/dharma speculation almost feels detached from the actual show because we have v few concrete or def connected and v many disparate or v separate bits & pieces
cathy kept saying "do they deserve it?", about michael (w/ walt) and about charlie (w/ claire) and I dunno
it was good
gonna read your speculation thread, now!
haha, just thought of another LOL ref (someone mentioned the empire strikes back, upthread, (which I can see, in a few ways)): "blast doors" and, haha, eko base!!!
