(oh yeah, if you search around for it there is also a thread for people who haven't seen the first season, but who want to anticipate the second season or something? I don't know what that one is about. It has something to do with the X-Files or something. And there is also a completely HILARIOUS thread for the Brits who get Lost episodes sent to them via clipper ship months after they air! It's a scream!)

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

Come anticipate LOST, SECOND SEASON with me

Ahem

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i mentioned that thread up top! have fun with it. This thread is for HARDCORE LOST FANS only. We are thinking of starting our own board.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

ILL?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Why is Scott being a dick to me? I don't understand.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, the return of the Lost thread! Awesome.

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

I *am* kinda confused as to why two threads but okay.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sorry, i just needed more exclamation points and excitement. i feel like the show has earned it. there was no real excitement on that other thread. and my life is very very boring. my excitement for the week:

mon-mailman delivers mail

tues-mailman delivers mail

wed-mailman delivers mail

thurs-mailman delivers mail

fri-mailman delivers mail

sat-mailman delivers mail

sun-waffles!

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

where is the mailman, by the way?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

sun-roffles!

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

You're telling me it's in the trees, in the trees...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe if the mail included the season one dvd set, you'd be more excited.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

and kenan, what is the deal with starting a thread to anticipate season 2 when you haven't even finished watching season one??? you better hurry up.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

scott otm. kenan, you haven't even finished the season and you started an anticipation thread for the second one just to get your name on it. scott started the first lost thread, and this seems OFFICIAL to me.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

plus scott's thread title is fucking awesome!

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

alright alright.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

how do you even know what to anticipate? you don't even know about the robots yet! oops....

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Perhaps I should ask for the DVD set for Xmas.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

he's anticipating anticipating.

xpost

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

ned, if you wait until xmas, then you'll be in the unfortunate situation of having finished the first season sometime in january, when the second season is still going on, and you will be therefore tortured. buy the dvd set today, watch it before next wednesday.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

and kenan, what is the deal with starting a thread to anticipate season 2 when you haven't even finished watching season one???

I anticipate being done with my sequential Lost orgy around noon tomorrow. But I've seen a lot of it already, just out of order and with no context (the first time), which is awful and shameful and I should have been paying more attention because now I know what happens but it's not as much fun. Which is why I'm anticipating season 2, you see?! I bet you wouldn't be dissing on my thread if it had that cool banner on it.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

kenan, you saw an opportunity and you inappropriately jumped on it. you will be hearing from scott's lawyer (me).

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

Cutty -- can't, have neither cash nor time. But I am a patient soul (and I learned to stop reading the other thread a long time back, which is why I'm only checking in on the start of this one).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

i posted nuff spoilers for kenan on the other thread anyway ha ha ha

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

anyway, i hope they air the second season in widescreen.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

the fact that a banner was even created for thread #1 necessitates the creation of thread #2.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:58 (nineteen years ago)

I can't wait

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

(This thread title makes me want to watch Night of the Demon.)

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Friday, 16 September 2005 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

Scott, is your TV even working? What'll you do if the picture shrinks down to a two-inch horizontal band again? If it's behaving, could you tape LOST for us? The TV here in the KozyShack gets nothing but fuzz and crackle! I'm freaking out! We could watch it over at my Aunt Peggy's house, but then we'd have to keep explaining things to my mother and Aunt Peggy, and they. or at least my mother, would be expressing disapproval, disappointment in our taste, all the disses.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 18 September 2005 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

we could try and tape it. what about tucker? or is he too cool to do something like that? our t.v. is working fine lately. i will cross my fingers. we can't afford to buy a new one right now. if it goes on the fritz we might have to barge in on bob lee. i blame rufus for the t.v. what with all his constant on and off button pushing the little button pushing monster.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Tucker disapproves of our TV menu as much as any octagenarian. Just you wait. Rufus's TV sabotage is just the beginning. He's trying to save you from yourself.
Tucker drives cab that night. He has no idea of how to program the VCR so it will record later. I always have to run up to his room and press record when Fear Factor comes on. He calls me from the cab. RUN MOM! RUN!!!
I'm gonna ask Chris.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:45 (nineteen years ago)

We might have to go to a motel.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:46 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to have to tape this, I am going to be out tonight. Grr.

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

i'll be out tonight too, i'm going to hate watching this when the rest of the world has already. hopefully, it'll be just a clip show of favorite laughs from season one.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

i prob won't get to see this for at least another 2 weeks :(

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

im dying with anticipation. i noticed on the preview i saw last night that inside the hatch it said "quarantine".

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

i just read the godamn episode recap from the premiere party. fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm trying not to read any spoilers, they kill fun.

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

I COULDN'T RESIST.

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

It's like you're Locke and spoilers were the hatch.

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Arse, I read them now as well.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Just 5 more minutes! I'm so psyched it started later so I could put Rufus down in time for this.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

3 minutes

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

I suppose, I can expect a torrent, upon rising, tomorrow

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 00:00 (nineteen years ago)

!!!

adam (adam), Thursday, 22 September 2005 00:04 (nineteen years ago)

ok, so... desmond? did desmond heal sarah? is he...magic?

That was awesome, btw. Everything it needed to be.

kenan, not julia (julesbdules), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

I really dig Lost. That was way cool. yeah, Desmond, whut da fuck?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:09 (nineteen years ago)

Desmond... the guy who ran with Jack in the stadium, but also the guy who apparently had been underground since possibly the 1970s?! A big WTF!

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:17 (nineteen years ago)

desmond has a twin?
can teleport?
a;lsdfkjals;dkfj;alsdkfjl;adksj

????????

breezy, Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:18 (nineteen years ago)

Who's to say how long he's been under there? He said he was training for a race around the world. Maybe that underground thing goes really really far.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:25 (nineteen years ago)

yeh it felt like they were just winding us up with Charlie and Claire. the whole time they were on it was like FUCK - OFF. i just don't care about them. where can their arc really go of interest? will Charlie fall from grace again? will Claire's baby start doing some eerie powers? big fat meh.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

the only real thing about the charlie stuff at the end = how totally insane he turns out to be about claire that he's so like "eko & locke havent come back yet? oh well nm!" and pretending nothing really happened, v weird

even so, there's no excuse for that not being at the beginning of next season.

rtccc (mwah), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

seeing as the hatch effectively blew up (the 'quarantine' hatch door going sky high lol), where ARE Eko and Locke? unconscious amid the debris?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

the other big thing that's been bugging me and i'm still not clear on it:

how much of what happened to Gale (killing and burying the real Gale, getting caught in Rousseau's trap, being captured by Sayid, the torture, the communication with Locke) was planned or intended by him?

Klugh implied it was not planned for him to get captured. was she lying? surely Gale would not get trapped/captured by accident?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

eko coming back for locke was really touching, i thought; touching because, i think, it wz totally underplayed with them just standing looking at each other without obv tender moment strings-of-redemption coming in. one does suspect however that they just didnt have enough time to think that bit thru properly what with all the BULLSHIT later, otherwise they would have oversugared it as per.

well anyway, fuck knows. i wish i was rather wondering if ANYONE was still alive nahmean

rtccc (mwah), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

also does Desmond turning the key mean no more EM surges at all now? still don't quite get what happened.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

also the 2 of u thinking jack was one of the arctic guys - kill yrselves, seriously

rtccc (mwah), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

seeing as the hatch effectively blew up (the 'quarantine' hatch door going sky high lol),

I assumed this was down to electro magnetic gubbins though, rather than an actual physical explosion. Which might mean that lock+eko are fine.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

but they were picking all these bits of metal, Dharma food and stuff off the beach. anything with that much force must've hit them somehow. we don't know if the hatch is even useable anymore. that Geronimo Jackson record could be unplayable now!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

I think they missed a trick by not having them find out that Michael shot Ana Lucia and Libby via CCTV in The Pearl too. I guess it helped add weight to the departure of Michael and Walt with the look of utter disgust on Jack and co's faces. Tough trade-off.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

but they were picking all these bits of metal, Dharma food and stuff off the beach. anything with that much force must've hit them somehow

Oh, that's true I suppose. Hmm. OMG, maybe it was a DIFFERENT quarantine door! From another plane!!! ahem.

that Geronimo Jackson record could be unplayable now!

Wow, I'm glad I downloaded that song about making your own kind of music before it was too late.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

I think that's the point. Kelvin (Calvin?) said "make it all go away" which could mean any number of things, including -- if the producers wanted to be punny -- simply reverse the polarity of the magnet, blowing everything away instead of pulling it in. (I keep thinking the way the hatch door flew back into the survivors' camp is a subtle clue, beyond the obvious "something happend at the hatch."

Very good question cribbed from another board:
1. Desmond doesn't push the button on schedule. There is a system failure that lasts for some short period of time. Some kind of electromagnetic force crashes plane.
2. Locke smashes computer and button isn't pushed on schedule. There is a system failure that lasts for some period of time longer than first, which we can assume because the force of the magnet is so strong as to crumple the clock.

Something doesn't add up -- if the magnet is so strong as pull the plane apart at that distance, why didn't it crumple the clock then? Or, from the other perspective, what happened elsewhere on the island during the second system failure? Wouldn't other metal things be flying toward the hatch? (Maybe someone who watched via torrent can answer that.)

I'm not sure how to resolve this apparent conflict. Perhaps the magnet is unidirectional? Perhaps during Desmond's failure there was actually someone sitting in an as-yet unseen control room who "aimed" it somehow?

pleased to mitya (mitya), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

They were picking all these bits of metal, Dharma food and stuff off the beach.

No (or maybe no) Steve. Remember they built those storehouse shelves to store all the food that was dropped from the sky.

pleased to mitya (mitya), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, see I thought those food cans had just been pulled from the shelves towards the hatch by the magnets. But then Steve's right, that doesn't fit with the door flying away (before dropping back), and it also seems like they hadn't moved that far, certainly not far enough to indicate the same magnetism was strong enough to pull planes from the sky. Hmm.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'm on board with the reversed polarity thing until it's proven false.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

"how much of what happened to Gale (killing and burying the real Gale, getting caught in Rousseau's trap, being captured by Sayid, the torture, the communication with Locke) was planned or intended by him?"

I think none of it was planned.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

the Henry Gale thing kind of plays into the possible Widmore vs. Hanso fite

the "real" Henry Gale is flying a Widmore balloon (on another "race" around the world? pretext to lure someone else to the island?) .... but after crashing on the island he gets killed by fake Henry .... perhaps to steal his identity and infiltrate the Widmore doings on behalf of Hanso peeps ... but then he accidentally gets caught in Rousseau's net

still got no idea what that Widmore pregnancy test is all about

Renard (Renard), Friday, 26 May 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

Do we know for sure that notHenry killed realHenry? (Or did it recently?)

Also, what was the timeline between the food drop and the balloon? Is it possible that the balloon dropped the food and then crashed?

pleased to mitya (mitya), Friday, 26 May 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

nah the food drop was after they already had the fake Henry locked up

some weird stuff on this DJ Dan site. apparently an ABC sponsored thing designed to look like a fan site. I can't stop myself from nerding out over this shit. dammit Lost, I hate u.

Renard (Renard), Friday, 26 May 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

Desmond will totally somehow have survived. It's not in their style to hint at the story of how he went to prison and not eventually flesh it out.

No way, yeah, it totally is.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 26 May 2006 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

Do we know for sure that notHenry killed realHenry?

No, not for sure. I think it's what we were meant to assume, but I'm inclined to believe Henry when he says "we're the good guys", and I suspect the real Henry Gale probably copped it some other way.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

The magnet may have affected flight 815's instruments in such a way that it flew into the island, rather than actually pulling the plane in, so it wouldn't have to have been clock-crushingly strong then.

Also, unmagnetized metal can't be repelled by a magnet regardless of its polarity, so a hatch door shouldn't have been blown away so forcefully. Like polarities repel, but both items have to be magnetic. Unless this is a new Lostian physics.

nickn (nickn), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

Perhaps it was a magnetic door and that's why Locke had to blow it off in the first place. *shrug*

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 26 May 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

haha I totally forgot, but, the only thing that really bothered me about this episode was when Eko tried to blow up the BLAST DOORS.

BLAST doors Mr. Eko. BLAST doors.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 26 May 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Nickalish!

Yeah, that was hilarious. And THIS is what happens when you make stupid-ass plans!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 26 May 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

still got no idea what that Widmore pregnancy test is all about

This is probably the LEAST confusing thing! Widmore owns Widmore Labs, a pharmeceutical company. The pregnancy test itself probably isn't meaningful, but it's a nod to this man's wealth and corporate entity.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Saturday, 27 May 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

The pregnancy test itself probably isn't meaningful

??

seems meaningful when they show it in close-up for a good long while and someone asks, "Who travels on a plane with a pregnancy test?"

Renard (Renard), Saturday, 27 May 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

Pregnancy tests are common in most medical kits (esp ones that appear as well stocked as Jack's). If there's a chance a patient might be pregnant, it's best to know for certain.

gbx (skowly), Saturday, 27 May 2006 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

I think the closeup was primarily to give us time to see the "Widmore Labs" brand.

pleased to mitya (mitya), Saturday, 27 May 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i think so too. But the test wasn't in the medical kit was it, it was found in a passenger's luggage? Originally I thought the 'who travels with a pg test?' comment was providing an opening for a story along the lines of: Sun thought she may have been pg before reaching the island and had been planning to do the test after she'd given Jin the slip at the airport, and it had been in HER luggage all along. (Ie. the baby ISN'T Jin's, Sun has been lying and Jin's balls are not healed by the island magic after all.) But as ever there was no follow up.

Archel (Archel), Saturday, 27 May 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

steve up thread "ALAN FUCKINBG DALE" :-D

we were "JIM FUCKING ROBINSON, DUDES!!" here. and no he's not first person on lost/24. the russian premier on this recent 24 season was also in the '?' episode as the psychic who also in season 1 telling claire to go on the plane! OMG!

it WAS portuganese. it WASN'T matthew fox

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Saturday, 27 May 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

so one crucial thing for me (alluded to up thread) was that Locke's crisis (and reason for being wrong) was precipitated by two things - the pearl "observation" implying that the button task was pointless, and notHenry's taunting during the lockdown ep. so henry MUST have typed in the numbers so did he just say he didn't to mess with him? he was doing that a lot, in a "divide and rule" sort of way to set him against jack etc.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Saturday, 27 May 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

desmond will surive. otherwise Penny having gone to what looks like great efforts to find him will be really pissed off

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Saturday, 27 May 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

so did he just say he didn't to mess with him?

I figure that's Option 1. Option 2 is that fake henry wanted the button not to be pushed at some later date but did not want to be in the vicinity when that happened.

(on the other hand, since not pushing the button apparently was gonna cause Armageddon for real, that's kind of a short-sighted strategy on fake henry's part) (but he showed almost no reaction when the sky went white so it's almost like he was expecting it)

Renard (Renard), Saturday, 27 May 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

and no he's not first person on lost/24.

Also Jack's dad was the potential-terrorist daddy on the second season of 24.

And Hurley's imaginary friend played the human rights lawyer on 24 last year.

And Jin was Agent Tom Baker, etc.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 27 May 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

good heavens! thankfully we have http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Main_Page to update then...

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Saturday, 27 May 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Desmond was a German agent earlier on 24 this year.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 27 May 2006 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

desmond will surive.

Surely Locke must survive too. The writers wouldn't be so dumb as to kill off their best character, would they?

cws (cws), Saturday, 27 May 2006 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

Given that the "Lost Experience" website nonsense is supposed to carry us through till the fall, maybe the best bet would actually be to move over to that thread.

great idea for a new thread. i am always afraid that ilx will blow up when threads get this long.

Can we have a thread where we remember the highs and lows of this thread? It started with a battle for thread supremacy. It ended with many questions.

I started rereading this thread and next thing I knew it was 2044. I got that uncomfortable feeling I get when reading old journals -- we were so naive back then. I'll miss this thread. It has been almost the only thread I frequent these days.

Good bye, It's Coming! It's Coming! It's In The Trees! (God I Love Scott And His Exuberant And Overly Lengthy And Weirdly Capitalized Thread Titles!!!)

= Jack's wife?

amongst others

disappointed there weren't clearer conclusions but I guess I don't really want proper conclusions for another year or two and what we saw did answer and pose more questions as they were bound to

LOL refs: david hume (1. scottish 2. free will Vs. determinism etc), lord kelvin from jules verne's "around the world in eighty days" (1. desmond's trip do you see 2. if fogg suceeded he would take kelvin's position in the royal society), penelope (1. odysseyus's faithful wife 2. desmond's trip do you see), bet there were more

liked finding out that desmond crashed the plane, liked the magnet thing going crazy and the flying cutlery & darts and stuff, haha liked the big four-toed colossus foot, kind of liked the connection of desmond's despair w/ locke's and des hearing locke banging and turning on the light that locke saw etc, tom's beard was v funny too

this whole widmore/hanso/dharma speculation almost feels detached from the actual show because we have v few concrete or def connected and v many disparate or v separate bits & pieces

cathy kept saying "do they deserve it?", about michael (w/ walt) and about charlie (w/ claire) and I dunno

it was good

gonna read your speculation thread, now!

haha, just thought of another LOL ref (someone mentioned the empire strikes back, upthread, (which I can see, in a few ways)): "blast doors" and, haha, eko base!!!
